This hire does not thrill me.

If it was a choice between EB and Embree, I would have thought the obvious choice would have been EB. Embree was somewhere just north of Dave Logan on my list of potential candidates.

I'll support him, win or tie.

While I don't see much difference between EB and JE, I agree that this hire isn't overly exciting. Then again anyone short of Les Miles was probably going to disappoint me.

Would you rather have Coach Care Bear back? Or maybe you prefer the guy in the avatar?

Embo was pretty far down the list for me too, but MB was never, ever going to bring back Mac. Miles, Richt were pipe dreams since theymake 50% more $$ at their present gigs than CU could reasonably pay. So it was another untested guy who was going to get the gig. Calhoun, who withdrew, McElwain or some other joker with no CU ties, or the Cabral, Embo EB cabal to choose from. EB would have been my first choice, but Embo is probably more polished with his PR at this point in the game. That is a big deal to MB, who is a political hack at heart.

I can live with this one. Especially since I am fairly confident recruting will improve and Embo is rumored to bring a pretty good staff to replace the Boise deadwood we've been watching clank against the hull of the good ship Buffalo.

I am supportive. Let's go roll the Pac 12....

Legitimately curious - why was EB the obvious choice in your mind?

To be fair, I don't see anyone that's not pro-Embree saying that they wouldn't support the program.

    Here's a question....

Assume Jon Embree is head coach, and Eric Bieniemy is the offensive coordinator. 2 years from now, Bieniemy leaves to take the job at UCLA or USC.
    Are you upset / concerned?

Would you be more upset (under the above two scenarios) to lose Embree? or to lose Bieniemy?

Right now, I'd be more concerned if EB will even be on Embree's staff...

Unless you're fatbuff saying he will now keep his money in his pocket, or snowbuff saying he wont wait for on field results instead he will see the staff. This type of **** is what pisses me off and why CU fans get a bad rap. I understand any hire is not gonna make everybody happy. But I will always support someone new until they prove they cant do it.

Of course I'm upset and concerned if one of our key coaches and best recruiters takes the top job at one of our 2 biggest recruiting competitors and a Pac-12 South rival.

It would be equal to me. Either one means that we'd been really successful, though. Better to lose the OC than the HC. Let's hope that neither leaves for the enemy.

I would hate to lose Bieniemy to a division rival, but that woud mean our offense would be in pretty good shape.

So after the past 5 years, you question anyone who wants to see what staff is brought in before they **** themselves? If it's not the greatest staff in the history of football like most of you think and it's mediocre, then what? What was all this for?

Oh I get it, but I want to see this awesome staff is all. I'm going to give the buffs my support no matter what and hope we kick some pac 12 ass, but to say I have to support bohn's decision, not.

I would be scared of Eric B coaching a division rival.

Look, I cringed when Embree's named surfaced too. I still am skeptical, but at the same time excited about the potential. And after thinking about it, am more excited than a couple days ago. Who knows this could work out, or it could fail. Whatever happens from now on until Embree starts to prove he can't coach, I am behind him 100%. I am even gonna increase my donations to the program, and thats hard for me, because I don't have a lot of money. Every hire is a risk, lets just see how it plays out. Nebraska went for a guy they passed on, maybe we can have the same luck.

The recruiting aspect bothers me about JE (and EB). If you are leaving the NFL, then you have not been spending much time studying high school talent, selling parents, and developing relationships within the ranks of high school coaches.

It could take some time for JE to put a staff in place and roll out a recruiting machine. Unless Cabral, Keisau, Hagan and/or some other Hawkins era coaches are retained, then JE might be starting from scratch.

A green NCAA HC fresh out of the NFL will most certainly show in this 2011 recruiting class. (Bottom half) It's not like JE has existing relationships with recruits who will be following JE over from the 'skins. I'm not sure if JE is up to speed on the NCAA rules and calendars. JE will be on a steep learning curve. The new HC is a project who will be expected to do some serious on the job training.

None of these critisms indicate that JE won't eventually recruit lights out. It's just that all of the conference rivals have a huge lead out of the starting gate.

My expectation is that the school will give JE five years to proove himself. If we are lucky, this will turn out more like Paul Rhodes at ISU instead of Ron Prince at Kjuco.

A big part of JE's success will depend upon fan patience. After five years of losing seasons, fan patience is worn out.

I wish JE all the best in his new roll as CUHC. The players deserve every chance to be part of a competitive team. JE has his work cut out for him. I'll join arms and support him in these pursuits. (Thank goodness for an amazing schedule that will keep the Buffs on TV.). But I'm not holding my breath for a bowl invitation next season.

I look forward to his official coming out party. There's every reason to be skeptical. Notwithstanding his bio, JE is a blank slate to me. I'm prepared to be wow'd. Let's hope that happens before 2015.

I mostly agree with this. Right now, I support Embree and I support the team. I'm definitely more impressed by what I know of Embree than you are, but whether or not I support Bohn's decision to hire Embree is ultimately going to come down to what happens on the field. I'm willing to wait and see that before I judge one way or the other, which I think is where our reactions differ a bit...

I said in another thread that I was more-or-less prepared to be underwhelmed by any coaching hire and I'm still basically that way. Somebody at my office asked me who I'd honestly be fired up about and the only answer I could come up with was Harbaugh. Short of that, it just seems like a crap shoot to me.

That said, Embree seems like a solid candidate and I'm ready to get fired up again. Let's go find some recruits!

Unfortunately, this is a much risker hire than hawk was. This guy has never been a HC OR coordinator, anywhere. Hiring a winning HC from a smaller school is much less risky than hiring someone who hasn't run anything his whole career. So I don't think you can make that statment.

I wasn't thrilled, but if they bring EB in as OC I am much more jacked. There are some coaches I could not support at all; I can and will support CU HCJE.

I just want to see improvement from one year to the next and I believe we will see that culminate in 2014 when we host the 12 Pac championship.

Well, in either scenario, wouldn't that mean CU had been successful? I think this is a great opportunity for EB to take on the OC position and show what he can do.
