ESPN Vice President and Director of News Vince Doria ESPN THE MAGAZINE Editor-in-Chief & ESPN Books Editorial Director Gary Hoenig and ESPN.com Editor-in-Chief Pat Stiegman participated in the conference call and were behind the decision to punish Feldman.
Doria, Hoenig and Stiegman informed Feldman today that he has been banned from writing for any ESPN entity, is forbidden from appearing on any ESPN platform, is not allowed to Tweet from his Twitter account nor participate in any promotion of a recently-released book in which Feldman played a role.
Well before Mike Leach was terminated by Texas Tech in late 2009, Feldman had agreed in principle to assist the coach in compiling material for a Leach biography. That biography, in which Feldman was mostly charged with recording Leach’s first-person account of his life, was released this week with the title,Swing Your Sword.
Because of Leach’s acrimonious departure from Texas Tech, which allegedly stemmed from complaints about the coach’s alleged treatment of the son of ESPN college football analyst Craig James, Feldman’s participation in Swing Your Sword was not initially assured.
Multiple management and editorial sources at ESPN have told me in recent months that Feldman would only participate in the Leach book project upon direct approval from ESPN management - which Feldman indeed received.
Since the book was released on Monday, Feldman has deliberately avoided any personal promotion or mention of the Leach book. (You will find no mention of the book on Feldman’s Twitter account and ESPN blog.)
Despite those facts, Feldman was told by ESPN executives Doria, Hoenig and Stiegman today that he was being suspended indefinitely for his participation in the Leach book.

Surprised that none of you are calling out ESPN for this. I hope Feldman sues their asses off. ESPN can eat a bag of dicks.

    fify :smile2:

If they really gave him permission to do the book, then fired him for doing it, he can sue them for a few million dollars and make them throw in Erin Andrews in the deal.

I didn't realize at the time, but I guess James' kid was sent to a large room, but chose to hide in a closet and take a video of himself there. The rotten apple doesn't fall far from the suck-ass tree.

Just when I thought the Craig James douche bar had been set at it's highest level, the Celina Vagina rags it up a notch....

Saw a tweet last night that Feldman was trending more than Harry Potter on twitter yesterday. The public is definitely supportive of him and not on board with ESPN's actions on this one.

This just seems so weird by ESPN. Have they blackballed Leach? Is this making it hard for anyone to hire him as a coach?

In an interesting twist, Feldman was named to the SI must-follow top 100 tweeters as a senior writer for ESPN.

Well-researched, honest journalism is now a fireable offense at ESPN.

hahaha, they say James is not at fault, but they add this anyway:

"Who knows whether they even know Craig James, or like him, or make sweet love to a picture of him gaining zero yards in the 1985 Super Bowl against the Chicago Bears. "

Not really new though. He wasn't fired, but ESPN let David Aldridge go because they thought Stephen A Smith brought more to the table.

    Oops.

Why do they keep James around, I've never heard of a single human liking him.

Craig James tweeted: @craigjames32: Respected colleague & friend of Feldman since early 90's. Surprised! Saw this in news like y'all

    And the internet chuckled.

I think ESPN is a bloated, arrogant old emporer who believes in his own divinity and does not believe that the Huns have crossed the Rubicon. They are in serious need of new management and talent. Chris Berman is really representative of what they are. He is an arrogant windbag of average talent who believes he is the 21st Century Version of Grantland Rice. The LeBron James fiasco is another example.

That excerpt is damning to everyone involved.

I can't see how the memoir helps Tech, the Pirate or the James klan.
