The support and intensity from CU fans was ridiculous at Cal. We were all over the place. Locals said we had a better showing than UCLA or USC. Too bad the team didn't come to play. I'm sure Cal fans had better things to do on Saturday than watch us lose in spectacular fashion, but I was thoroughly unimpressed. Folsom is going to be one of the loudest places in the 12 pac, probably just behind autzen. Maybe ahead :smile2:. Add in the altitude and the fact that we now play in our primary recruiting ground EVERY YEAR... well, lets just say CU really is a sleeping giant. All those things we have been saying about competing in the 12pac are true. I've seen it with my own eyes.

We get a real coach in here and he will kill it, just kill it. They can say welcome to the pac 12 all they want right now, but they better be careful, cause once we get out of this hawk induced coma it is gonna be a blast.

Anyone who was in the Bear's Lair before the game knows that the fans absolutely killed it. I just wonder how much more our fan base can endure. At some point, you just lose hope. Before the Cal game, I had hope. I'm not sure if the game was just not long ago enough or something, but this is the first time that I just have absolutely no hope for the season. Really. I can't believe I expect us to lose to Hawaii at home, but that is where I'm at.

I agree -- I was in Berkeley for the game and CU fans were EVERYWHERE. I was at the Bear's Lair when CU fans belted out the fight song. I know this sounds cheesy, but I was damn proud -- we were in enemy territory and actually outnumbered the Cal fans. That hasn't happened much in my experience in Big 12 country.

Cal doesn't really have a home field advantage because the stadium is an open bowl and the fans are really laid back. Folsom will be a big home field advantage relative to most of the rest of the Pac 12.

I truly agree with everything you said based on what I have seen and read about the current Pac-10. It might seem dark and gloomy but things will get better.

Every Pac-10 school including USC have had periods like CU is going through and I believe the Pac-10 fans know this as well and the Pac-10 fans that I have talked with on the WWW doesn't view CU in the same light as the Big 12 + Husker fans view us.

There was a lot of hype about how big and bad the Big 12 was gonna be when it first came into existence. In some ways, the hype was justified but it was not what people thought the Big 12 would be like. The ACC was supposed to become a monster with Miami and Virgina Tech. VT has mostly delivered on that premise while Miami has yet to make a lot of noise and FSU has regressed during that same time period. That makes me feel much better about what the Pac-12 will be like down the road.

My thoughts exactly, Snow. Can you imagine how the fans would be if we actually had a half-decent team? Can't wait for Pac 12 road trips with a real coach!

If we had won that game we would have been the biggest assholes the pac 10 had ever seen and would have had an instant rival. Oh well... one can dream.

devil's advocate, this is a first time crowd. in 15 years, after the novelty wears off....and trips to Cal are routine...will it be the same?

you are correct. the cu support WAS ridiculous for cal. i guarantee if we had another game in california this year, less than 10% of those people would be back

Glad both you guys were at the Bear's Lair with us. That became our (snow, bob loblaw, me) second home for the weekend. If you saw the tall skinny asshole wearing a black CU hat, black '90 jersey, black shorts, black shoes, starting the fight song every 10 minutes, you saw me. Right at the front of the bar.

That was a fun fun place. We were rowdy before the game. I don't think the Cal fans had any idea we were going to be like that. Great ****ing trip besides the game, of course.

Assuming a decent team, I do think it will be similar. CU turnout at away games in Texas is pretty decent even after years of suckitude because we have a pretty solid number of alums there. Thus, I think games in our real hotbed of non-Colorado alumni groups will continue to be very good unless Hawkins gets a 10-year extension after the season.

Win, and they will come. I'm srue as hell not going to another away game while Hawk is coach. I might go tailgate at OSU, but actually giving the AD money to watch a Hawk team on the road? Hells no.

Fire Hawkins now. That is the only thought running through my head the last few days.

The sad part is, we're not even giving money to our AD. Our fans are paying top dollar to buy up tickets that our opponents would either sell to their own fans at a lose or eat entirely. We are funding other athletic departments in exchange for a chance to watch our team look completely outclassed.

That's a good point, Mick. With an average to poor team, the novelty will wear off. However, when we are much better in the future, it is not out of reason to think that we could pull 12,000 or more to a game in Cali. We had at least 12,000 at the Rose Bowl against fucla a few years ago, and they were treated to a great game. Now, maybe the novelty will wear off for the good teams as well, and then we're back to 7,000 - which it still a great away crowd.
