I really have no problem with this. Should be more motovation for the Buffs to finish 1st! We all know they will do far better than what anybody at espn thinks. Especially if Tim "Hack" Griffen and Lou "I know everything" Holtz had anything to do with it.

I think this year more than ever, the North will be wide open, and very mediocre in comparison to the South.. again.

But if I had to pick a favorite, I would say Kansas, just because they will be the most experienced.

i don't understand the fusker love. i understand why they have the Buffs where they have them--- 3 crappy seasons in a row will do that to expectations. but, why all this belief in the fuskers? i think they are going to disappoint. the north, i think, will be pretty damned mediocre this year. ku is going to take a step back, as will mizzery. CU and the fuskers don't look like world beaters. isu and kjuco state look awful.

i would think whichever of CU, mizzery, ku, and the fuskers can go slightly over .500 in conference will win the north.

This except I think KU should have been the favorites because they bring back the best QB. The north race will be very interesting, I can see any of the media's top 4 winning it.

The problem with Kansas is they have to play OU, UT and Texas Tech. Add in a road trip to Boulder, a rematch against a NU team that beat them last year and a couple rivalry games against Mizzou/KSU and the potential for a few slip ups is definitely there.

Therefore, based on KU's schedule, many people are picking Nebraska. KSU/ISU both have new coaches, Missouri lost a ton on offense to know what to expect from them and we have yet to put it all together under Hawkins. Therefore, Nebraska is the popular pick right now. If Lee sucks it up early in the season, people will start jumping off the NU bandwagon. I also think most analysts see a 9-4 record without looking too closely at who they beat.

Yea, the North is definitely a quandary because if you look at what will presumably be the top 3 teams other than us, they all have major issues yet some good strengths:

KU - best returning QB and return all their offensive skill positions, yet their OL is poor. Questionable defense
knu - No returning starter at QB and they lose their top 2 WR's, but Helu returns and they have a strong OL. Probably the strongest returning defense in the North
missery - Daniel and their top 3 WR's are gone, but their top rusher returns and they have a strong OL. Questionable defense

Agreed, I think 5-3 could very well win the North and 6-2 most certainly would.

    I think I'd rank it:

    2. NU
    3. CU
    4. MU
    5. KSU
    6. ISU

There are 4 north teams that will contend for the title, and there are two that look to be just terrible. Of the 4 contenders, it's really anyone's guess as to who will win the North. I'm hopeful CU can be that team, the home schedule sets up that way, but NU, KU and MU are all more than capable of winning it too.

yes, but that is the point. if you look at the press votes and the number of first place votes, it isn't as split up among the 4 contenders as i think it should be. there is a lot of fusker love that i believe is unwarranted. it is 4 team race.

I am not bashing this season's Buffs and like everyone else here I am hoping for a break out year. I believe it's a four team race for the north but I have no issues with the media not seeing the Buffs as a real contender this year. This team and especially this coaching staff still has a lot to prove. At best, outside all of us Buff fans, we can be considered a dark horse contender. Media doesn't honestly give first place votes to dark horses.

Poll seems reasonable to me based on past performance, attrition and this year's schedule.

Dude, Mizzou lost a bunch of players and yet they got three first place votes?

Mizzou is gonna be back to their ways before Daniel just watch. They will be a decent team, but nothing great.

Being defending champs must count for something.

I'm not denying that they have talent...they lost not only their players but both coordinators as well. It would be too much for MU fans to ask their football team to win the North unless it's truly medicore this season. I just don't see MU contending for the North this year but they should go bowling. If they stay in contention late into the season, MU will cement their status as a North power.

Like it has the same meaning as Big 12 Champs.

Of course not, but they got 3 votes to finish first in the North, not the entire conference, so I think it is relevant.

Getting three first place votes means there are not many people in the media who think they'll be contending either. Who knows why those people voted them in first place. Maybe they are homers. Maybe they believe the defending champ is the defending champ until somebody knocks them off. It's only three votes.

Well now that the media has made their B12 predictions, I can only guess who they might have on their list for the pre-season all B12 team that's due out tomorrow.

Those must be writers who are looking at nothing but the fact that missery won the North the last 2 years without looking at all the talent they lost. Either that or they're missery homers.

Between the media in KC, STL and Columbia I have no doubt that they could get 3 1st place votes.

That makes sense...I wonder if Lincoln and Omaha will still choose NU for first place in the North even if they came off a 0-12 season? :smile2:

    When will CU be that?:sad1:

I think its safe to say CU is fourth best team in the division. Media for a change gets it right... Luckily the games are played on the field and not on paper.. Cautiously optimistic about our team but I still think they are big question marks on offense and we aren't good enough on defense to be a consistent winner without an improved offense..

On the bright side, its a favorable schedule for Hawk.. I think there's two games we have no chance of winning- Texas and Okie State.. The others can be had..

The way I read these rankings for the north is more like three teams that have a fairly equal chance to win it and three teams that dont. Sorry, I dont see CU winning the north..

I don't think CU will win the north, but I do think they will finish ahead of missouri. IF cu can beat Ku at home, they will not win it and they have too tough a schedule down the stretch. Will nebraska win it? They go to kansas, missouri and CU and have oklahoma on the road.

Maybe iowa state will win it :smile2:
