Has Alfred and Joel made such a big deal about this that they have pretty much polluted the water for any outsider to come in? Who is going to take a job when there has been such a public campaign against an outside? I wouldn't take it and walk into a firestorm. Minnesota would rejoice at coaches we've been conditioned to piss on.

Is this responsible of the press?

Is this responsible for former Buffs?

The next great coach may be EB, but not because he has CU ties. Saban had no Alabama ties and Shula did. Colorado is not unique. That's crap and I've yet to hear a lucid argument to support it.

I'm just not sure a new coach would want to walk into a situation where former players are on the radio and have a "my way is right your way is wrong" mentality. Does this exist elsewhere?

Dan Hawkins polluted the waters. Then if you add in the Mac factor getting people's hopes up, well, yeah, maybe some people will be disa pointed if a non CU guy gets hired. But radio show listerners are a pretty small crowd, for the most part.

I think it's somewhat irresponsible by former Buffs that are in a position to sway public opinion (Klatt, CJ, Al). IMO, they force the hand of the AD to their viewpoint and make it very difficult to go outside of their view that a CU guy needs to come in.

That said, they did help to make the program what it is, they have far more intimate knowledge of the program and what it takes to be successful. They earned the right to say whatever the hell they want to say, but I wish they'd say it without making it sound like it's either a CU guy or it'll be failure. And having Hawk come in 5 years ago obviously helps to bump their viewpoint.

any chance Joel is just pimping to be "accepted" among the CU fraternity?

I played a few decades ago and I don't feel like I have any insight into who that program should hire other than to hire someone who has been successful elsewhere, or hire one of my buddies.... But perhaps I've lived long enough to know that if I was pimping my buddy, I'd have a difficult time seperating what I think is right and what my heart thinks is right....

I'd sure trust Dave Logan opinion about now more than Joel Klatts.

That is not the right way to look at things, Nebraska passed up on Turner Gill and went for Bo. Gill was a long time coach and a GREAT player at UNL, he knew what it took to be successful at UNL, and did a good job in Buffalo bringing that team up to winning some games. But he was passed over for the job at UNL when it became open. Just because he played here and coached here and was a good Husker did not make him the right fit has CEO of the football team

I meant it more along the lines of the players have earned the right to be as vocal as they want about who they feel should be the next HC. I was not saying that because somebody used to play for CU they would make a good choice for the HC position.

i think one could make the argument that we've gone from looking at guys who other teams want to a set of candidates for which we are the only suitor...just because they are former players/coaches at this school. that seems odd, to me.

I am sorry, but it almost seems as Bohn is setting up the program for yet more losses and digging the hole deeper

Yep. This is it. I happen to think EB will be a star though so I'm not angry about this. We give it to anyone in the family I will be pissed.
