BOULDER – The University of Colorado women’s soccer team fell to the 21st-ranked Washington State Cougars, 3-0 here on Sunday afternoon at Prentup Field.
Washington State took the early 1-0 lead when Kaitlyn Johnson earned the first goal of the match, and her sixth of the season, in the 15th minute of play. After a pass from Beau Bremer, Johnson found space inside the back post as the ball got by diving Colorado goalkeeper Scout Watson.
The Buffs had an opportunity a few seconds later, but the shot by senior Madi Krauser sailed just above the crossbar.
The Cougars would go up 2-0 in the 17th minute. Sofia Anker-Kofoed connected with Kourtney Guetlein over the top and she sent her shot inside the back post as well, very similar to how WSU scored its first goal.
In the final seconds of the first half the clock was stopped after a foul causing some confusion on the field. The Buffs worked hard in the two seconds they had left to get the ball in the goal, and though it touched the back of the net, it was waived off as officials ruled time expired before the ball crossed the goal line.
