CORVALLIS, Ore. – The University of Colorado women’s soccer team faced a physical, 90-minute battle here Sunday afternoon and dropped a tough 2-0 match against Oregon State at Paul Lorenz Field.

Oregon State’s Gwen Bieck scored the Beavers’ first goal in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead on the Buffaloes. Bieck connected from center and was able to put it past Colorado goalkeeper Kate Scheelefor her first tally of the season, assisted by Jenna Baxter and Natalie Higgins.

Scheele faced seven shots from the Beavers’ attack and had five saves.

“All the credit to Oregon State,” said Colorado head coach Danny Sanchez. “They came out really well and had a couple good chances early and scored a good goal.”

The Buffaloes managed to put four of their 10 shots on frame, however were not able to find the equalizer before Oregon State would add one more goal with less than five minutes remaining to put the match out of reach. The Beavers’ Emma Jones sent a cross to Nikki Faris, who found the back of the net at the 85:09 mark.

“At the beginning of the second half we played well, created some good chances, had some good pressure, but obviously as we had to push numbers forward we got exposed in the back with the second goal, so a disappointing result, obviously, but credit to Oregon State, over the 90 minutes they deserved the win,” said Sanchez.
