Defense played great actually

Completely flustered and shut down Browning.

UW put up 250 rushing, but they didnt exactly do it without having to work their butts off for it.

Confused about some disparaging the defense after this one.

I thought D was great. Frustrated with missed opportunities at the line or behind the line v. the run. But credit to the Washington running backs.

The TD (you know the one) where Browning was sacked, and throwing it away, sucked. But the fumbled kickoff return seemed like a fair tradeoff.

Rule #1 of defense is you have to stop the run ... that being said Colorado didn't lose tonight because of their defense

Defense struggled vs run but did enough to keep us in it if offense would have produced something in 2nd half other than turnovers. Tedric and Oliver missed some INT opportunities, too bad Gilbert couldn't have finished Browning on that weird TD play to Ross. UW was the better team, not 31 pts better if we play a better game, but tough to win when you can't be at least even on LOS.

Defense played well enough to win if the offense was making plays. On a night like tonight, it would have been inevitable that they wore down from the run offense of UW and the Buffs would have lost even without the mistakes. Washington is a great team.

The defense was very good. I think part of the reason their running game was pretty succesful though, was guys trying to strip the ball at the expense of just stopping them.

stopped the pass and eventually slowed down the run late in the first half! If the O was able to do something???

Yeah, the defense got punched in the mouth early, but rallied later in the first half. They got completely worn down in the second half though. The offense was doing nothing, and UW was just pounding them with the run game. Gaskin is a slippery mother****er, and Coleman was just punishing.

That said, the first play of the game - TT was picking off passes like that all year. Instead he goes for the hit and gets PI. Plus he wasn't looking for another sure pick later in the first half. Both of those drives led to points. Then Oliver dropped a sure pick 6 in the last few minutes of the half. Those wouldn't have been enough, had the game still gone the way it did in the second half, but they might have also changed the complexion of the game.

agree on the D. The O would have to have been almost flawless to win the game and was far from it. Also, I sure as hell hope MM gets serious about special teams. Kick offs and punts were horrible. Coverage was mediocre as well. Just a phase that has been neglected in the Rise

Both lines got absolutely owned from the beginning of the game to the end. That is winning football Washington displayed and think they have a chance in the playoff.

The D played well enough but it was only a matter of time with the way they were getting handled in the run game. They were giving up 6+ yards/carry.

True, but they did stiffen in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. As I said before, they got punched in the mouth in the 1st quarter and then got worn down in the 4th.

Of course, it helped that Petersen inexplicably tried to get Browning going. Why care about balance when one side of your offense is so dominant that it makes your other side irrelevant?

Alabama hasn't allowed a TD in like 3 weeks. Browning isn't special and Bama's Front 7 is going to own UW's OL. Bad matchup for UW IMO

We gave up 40 points. The D played okay in the first half, but gave up 4+ per carry I believe. They beat us in all three phases, and showed our guys what it will take to win a championship game. Next time we'll have more depth and be up to the task!

Our D exposed Browning. Didn't get much help from the O or ST either. But we were dominated on the line...worried about next year cuz it doesn't look like we'll replace the size we have on DL.

Defense was good enough until the offense harpooned them. Offense did absolutely nothing this game. Defense was left on the field to cover for them. 3 INT's really killed any chance we had of being champs. Defense got tired, wore down, started missing tackles and making mistakes. The guys knew it was hopeless because the offense couldn't stop stepping on their own dick.
