    From the RMN:

    http://rockymountainnews.com/news/2...-apparently-changes-mind-back-cu/?partner=RSS

I'm not sure if this stops at the "REALLY!?" level, or leaps into the "OH MY GOD ARE YOU F'ING SERIOUS" level of understatement!

Edit: Since some people (BuffLuke) don't seem to understand sarcasm, the word 'understatement' implies that the statement by the RMN is painfully obvious to even the least informed CU football follower.

I'll trip on you, if you'd read every word I'd said, you would have seen that I was calling it an understatement, implying that it's obvious that our new kid will come in and compete for playing time, and probably start.

So go ahead and don't reply.

Now go look up understatement and sarcasm in google.

Understatement. It's pretty obvious that Hawkins wouldn't bring on a fourth scholly player in the kicker/punter ranks unless:

    a) the current crew could benefit from some competition
    b) CU can't compete with the big guys without a confident kicking game
    c) Grossnickle was something truly special.

He's been kicking for two years, punting for only one year and he made All-Colorado? As Kyle Ringo said in his chat, this kid might not peak until his twenties, and he just turned 18. My take is - whether he starts this year or next year - Hawkins couldn't afford to pass him up. And if Hawkins can afford to wait another year to play him, he'll only get better.

I don't often quote Ringo, but I happened to agree with him this time. :smile2:

And as we know (but Ringo doesn't yet), Grossnickle doesn't use a tee.

yeah the same Johnny Ringo that predicted Jones today? dont put much stock in him these days, Id put more stock into Boulder, Valdez, Broncos1 or something, and a few others, they seem to be right more times than not.

:smile2: I know it's risky, but I always think people are smarter than they are if they agree with me.

In all fairness to the Huckleberry, Jones did tell him that he was committing to the Buffs. He can only report what he's told.

I would not be so quick to hand Grossnickle the job.

My prediction: Grossnickle becomes the starting punter before he becomes the starting FG kicker.

I think Aric Goodman is going to be just fine, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he had a great year next year. All he needs to do is build some confidence. I think FG kicking is a lot like a golf swing. Almost every kick he hit last year was solid. He didn't hit any hosel-rockets. That said, I think it's great that he'll have some competition (both Zach and Jameson). May the best kicker win...and may he kick a boatload of PATs next year!

Me neither. But it's great that he will be on board. Nothing like a young punk breathing on your heels to inspire our talented kickers to step up their game.

Best outcome would be they do great and we have him redshirted and ready to go at punter when Dilallo graduates. But if any one of the three guys needs a backup, (illness, injury, not getting the job done) we have a competent understudy who can step in. At least we have a choice.

That's why Hawkins offered, because he can do all three main kicking duties equally well. All three kickers/punter now have to perform to stay starters and that's a good thing.

You reminded me that I have seen too many posters use this phrase in the past couple of days.

"This class really fills a lot of wholes."

    Uhm, I guess so.
