The newly ranked LACROSSE Buffs (3-0. #20 in the Coaches' (ILWCA) poll and #19 in usalacrossemagazine.com's) are back home for probably their toughest test of the regular season as they host #4/3 ranked Northwestern (2-1) Thursday morning.

The defending national champion Wildcats are sure to be VERY hungry in this one, as they came into the season #1 ranked in both polls, but suffered a 14-10 loss to Notre Dame last Friday in South Bend. (They subsequently hosted Marquette and destroyed them 21-3 earlier today.)

The game is slotted to be provided on the Pac 12 Networks. (Further info and links for media options available near the bottom of this thread.)

Go Buffs!!!

As noted above, the team is now ranked, (the 1st time they've been ranked this season).

Hope they build on their 3 early season wins; hope they keep it up for a great season!

Congrats to Ms's. Pisani (for TWO honors) and Peluso!

Colorado Sweeps Pac-12 POTW Awards, Pisani Honored Twice

By: Tanner Kay, Athletic Communication Associate

BOULDER, Colo. —
The Pac-12 Conference announced Tuesday afternoon that Colorado's Madeline Pisani and Jess Peluso were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. Pisani was also named IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association) Offensive Player of the Week, taking home both offensive honors for the week.

Colorado swept their first road trip during the 2024 season this past weekend, taking down Penn State and Saint Joseph's, moving to 3-0.

This is the first player of the week honor for Colorado since Charlie Rudy did it last season in the month of April, after scoring 10 goals against USC and Arizona State.

IWLCA / PAC-12 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Pisani is tabbed Offensive Player of the Week after back-to-back impressive performances over the weekend. She lead CU in each game with four goals, including the game-winner in both contests. It is the first player of the week award for the senior, and is just the third instance in program history when Colorado has claimed the IWLCA Offensive Player of the Week award, last occurring during the 2018 season (Darby Kiernan).

Leading her team with 13 goals through the first three games, Pisani also leads the Pac-12 and is tied for fourth nationally in goals scored and has already set her career-high for a single season. She has scored four or more times during Colorado's three-game winning streak to start the year.

PAC-12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Peluso is honored with Defensive Player of the Week after playing a pivotal role for a Colorado team that allowed just 15 goals over the weekend. In those two games she tallied six caused turnovers, three ground balls, and one draw control. It is the first time since the 2022 season that a Buffalo has earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week Honors.

She logged a career-high three caused turnovers and three ground balls in Sunday's win against Saint Joe's and forced a turnover on the final possession for the Hawks, leading to a Buffs win. Peluso also had a team-high three caused turnovers in the upset win over the Nittany Lions Friday evening. After three games, she sits alone at the top of the conference with six total caused turnovers.

BOULDER — The Colorado Buffaloes lacrosse team is set for a home showdown with the defending champions and No. 4 ranked Northwestern coming to town. Both teams will square off Thursday at 11 a.m. at Kittredge field.

"We are excited to host Northwestern on Thursday," coach Ann Whidden Elliott stated. "This is a great opportunity for our program. We are excited about our start but know we have to keep getting better on all ends of the field to continue to find success."

The Buffs currently ride a three-game winning streak to start the season, and have won all three contests by just a single score. Colorado was recently named as high as No. 19 by USA Lacrosse Magazine in the week two poll. They also were ranked No. 20 by the IWLCA.

Both sides of the ball are clicking, with CU fresh off sweeping the Pac-12 Player of the Week Awards. Madeline Pisani and Jess Peluso were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week by the conference after their performances this past weekend against Penn State and Saint Joseph's. Pisani was also named IWLCA Offensive Player of the Week.

Northwestern entered the season as the consensus No. 1 team in the nation and has a record of 2-1 through three games. After taking down No. 5 Syracuse in the season opener, the Wildcats dropped their second game to No. 8 Notre Dame in South Bend. They bounced back with a dominant 21-3 win over Marquette the following game.

With Colorado now ranked inside the top-25, they will be the third ranked team the Wildcats have played in their first four games of the season. It will be the first ranked matchup of the year for the Buffaloes.

"Northwestern is a great team," Whidden said. "They have so much talent and everyone on the field, offensively and defensively, is capable of making a play. We will need to be at our best, being aggressive and disciplined. I am proud of this teams mentality and how they have battled over the first 3 games. We are excited for this challenge and focused on our game plan."

INSIDE THE SERIES
These two squads have played each other four times in the past, but Thursday will be the first matchup since the 2018 season.

The Buffs hold a 1-3 record all-time against the Wildcats, earning the one win in program history in 2017 at home, winning in overtime 11-10. Northwestern defeated CU all three times at home in 2015, 2016, and 2018.
...

Thursday's game will be streamed on Pac-12 Network.

And, Buffzone's -

It's kind of late where I am, so I'm going to sleep, but wanted to note at the half it's a 9-11 Northwestern lead. (They scored 5 straight after I made my last post above, and then the Buffs scored 2 in the last 1-1/2 minutes of the half, including one with 1 second left.)

Not a win, but still a solid showing against maybe the best team in (collegiate) America.
