The #19 ranked LACROSSE Buffs (5-2) are back home as they start their Pac 12 season facing off against always one of their main conference nemeses (along with USC) as they host the Stanford Cardinal (4-2) this Friday afternoon. Then, next Saturday (3/23), they head to the Bay Area to face the Cal Bears (3-5).
(With the conference teams only facing each once this season (vs. home and homes in previous seasons), looks like there's only one conference game planned per week or so this season. The Buffs (and I assume all the conference teams?) are filling in the schedule with non-conference games interspersed, specifically games against ranked DU (4/3) and Kent State (4/14) still on the team's docket.)

As usual the Trees, although not ranked, look to be TOUGH competition. They started the season losing 2 road games by 1 goal (at #17 Virginia and Yale), after which they've won their next 4 games EASILY (each by at LEAST 9 goals).

Both games are slotted to be viewable via free live streams provided by the home schools. (Further info and links for media options available near the bottom of this thread.)

Note - Although the 1st official RPI ratings haven't been released yet, I did find an (I assume) unofficial website (https://pro.lacrossereference.com/rpi-d1-women?t=epxlwifospeivmd ) that looks to be attempting to calculate RPI's based on games to date (updated through 3/12). (No idea how accurate they might be.) Per that, the Buffs are #29, while Stanford is #9 and Cal #95. (Unlike other major team sports, there are quite a few less teams (127 this season) competing in D1 women's lacrosse.)

Go Buffs!!!

it will be interesting to see if it moves inside due to weather

Good call. (I believe at least one other time they moved inside due to weather they ended up not streaming the game. Hope that isn't the case this time.)

Buffs Open Conference Play Against Stanford

Game Will Take Place in the Indoor Practice Facility

By: Tanner Kay, Athletic Communication Associate

BOULDER —
The No. 19 Colorado Buffaloes are set to welcome the Stanford Cardinal to Boulder where the two teams will square off Friday, March 15 at 3 p.m. for the first Pac-12 Conference game of the season.

Due to weather conditions, the game is set to be played at the Indoor Practice Facility next to the Champions center.

The Buffs are most recently coming off a road win over Marquette, which pushed them to their current 5-2 record. After starting their season 0-2, Stanford has ripped off four consecutive wins. The Cardinal lost their first two games of the year on the road and by just a single score to Virginia and Yale.

Colorado will return to play at home for the first time in nearly a month, after dropping to No. 4 Northwestern back in February. They are 1-1 in Boulder thus far, winning four of their fives games on the road.

Senior Madeline Pisani continues to lead the surge for the Buffaloes, scoring 27 goals through the first seven contests. She has scored three or more goals in every game thus far.

Jess Peluso anchors down on the defensive side for CU, leading the team in caused turnovers (13) and ground balls (13). She is the only player for the Buffs with double-digits in both of those categories.

Stanford Cardinal are led by Sarah Jaques and Aliya Polisky, each with 14 scores on the year, tied for the team lead. They have three other players with double-digit goals and as a team are tied for first in the conference with 15.67 goals per game.

INSIDE THE SERIES
These two programs will face off against one another for the 21st time. Colorado won the last matchup, in the 2023 Pac-12 tournament, 12-11.

The Cardinal have 11-9 advantage thru the first 20 games in the series, but are just 3-4 in Boulder in seven games.

Stanford was the first Pac-12 opponent the Buffs squared up against almost exactly 10 years ago on April 6, 2014.

The game will be streamed here. Live stats can be found here.

IF there are any CU students reading this -

It looks like a brutal 3rd quarter, where the team was outscored 2-10, doomed the Buffs and they lose their conference opener 12-18.

On to Berkeley next week to hopefully start their comeback.

BOULDER — An imposing 10-0 scoring run in the first half propelled the No. 20 Colorado Buffaloes over the Golden Bears Saturday afternoon to earn their first conference win of the season.

Eight separate scorers for 15 goals as a team led the Buffaloes to an important conference win. Five different CU players had two or more scores during the contest.

They end their final Pac-12 conference game in Berkeley with an impressive win, and have won the last seven games inside California Memorial Stadium.

"I'm proud of a lot of what we did today," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "We needed to come out and prove to ourselves we could be more consistent and in control. Defensively we started slow but then were able to lock in and make some plays. Offensively we were more efficient than we were last week and that was a huge positive for us."

Madeline Pisani's three goals in the first half earns her the eighth hat trick of the year and has scored at least two or more goals in every game. She has 32 goals on the year, and leads the conference.

Senior Sydney Zimmerman tallied her first ever three goal game, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field. She now has eight goals on the season, a career-high.

Ashley Stokes ended the day with five points (2 goals, 3 assists) which led all Colorado players, and has now scored in every game this season. Stokes' three assists is just the second time all year a CU player has had three assists in a single game, with Lily Assini doing it back in February against Northwestern.

Jess Peluso posted a career-high five caused turnovers, and now has 19 on the season, the most in the Pac-12. She is the only player in the conference with multiple games of four or more caused turnovers. Peluso also tied her season-high with four ground balls.

The Buffs end their Pac-12 regular season series with Cal with an 13-2 record overall since 2014, and a 13-game winning streak.

"All conference wins are big and this was a big one for us to get back on track," coach Whidden stated. "We have spring break coming up and need to utilize this time to just get better from a skill perspective. We will lock that in and get ready for a big stretch coming up, starting with San Diego State at home."
