Men's basketball (14-12 overall; 6-9 in the Pac 12) look to get some upsets in the desert as they head off to visit the Arizona schools this coming week, starting with a Thursday game against the Arizona State Sun Devils (18-8, 9-6) and ending with a matchup Saturday evening vs. the #8 ranked Arizona Wildcats (22-4, 11-4).

Note - As I type this, the Net rankings (dated 2/13/23) have CU at #71, while ASU is #65 and Arizona #11.

This Thursday evening's game is slotted for Pac 12 Network, while Saturday's is scheduled to be on ESPN2. (Further info and links for media options available near the bottom of this thread.)

Go Buffs!!!

(Preview(s) not available as I type this. )

Here is a note from a poster on NetBuffs from the only CU basketball insider I know of. This guy obviously knows players/coaches becasue his accuracy around men's basketball has been amazing for years. He's not anti-Boyle BTW. I agree 100% with his views below.

"CU basketball could definitely use a change at the top. It is simply time. Tad has taken a bad cellar dweller program from Bzz and made it a solid middle of the Pac12 program, but I don't see him doing much better. There is a risk involved that a new coach could fail and CU returns to pre-Tad success (or lack thereof) , but there is also a chance CU could get to that next level where they compete in top third of conference every year and make the dance most years. It's worth the risk."

In no way aligning with the silly post above, but I do think we get taken to the woodshed in both these games. ASU needs to pile up some good wins down the stretch to enhance their tournament chances and UofA has the athletes to completely neutralize both KJ and TDS.

Preview for tomorrow's game - https://cubuffs.com/news/2023/2/15/...-set-for-final-regular-season-road-swing.aspx

THE SEASON: Colorado is 14-12 overall and tied for seventh place in the Pac-12 Conference at 6-9 after falling 73-62 at Utah on Feb. 11, in its lone game last week.

Colorado dropped its sixth-straight on the road and is 1-8 in true road contests this season. The six-straight road losses are the Buffaloes most since 2018, spanning the final five games of the 2017-18 season and the first road game at San Diego in 2018-19. It's the first six-game road losing streak during the course of the same season since 2014-15.

Colorado is averaging 64.9 points per game on the road compared to 73.8 at home. The Buffaloes are shooting 40.0 percent on the road compared to 47.1 percent at home. Colorado has allowed 72.2 points on the road while the hosts are shooting 46.1 percent. At home, the Buffaloes have held opponents to 60.7 points on 40.7 percent shooting.

Colorado committed a season-low six turnovers at Utah and its fewest since having six against Stanford on Nov. 28, 2021. It's CU's fewest on the road since committing just five at Washington on Jan. 20, 2021.

Colorado has made 29 of its last 31 free throws over the last two games. The Buffaloes made their first 11 at Utah before finishing 12 of 13. While still shooting a Pac-12 low 68.7 percent from the line overall, Colorado has improved its mark to 70.6 percent in conference games.

On the Pac-12 leaderboard, Colorado is second in steals (8.0) and offensive rebounds (11.6 orpg), third in turnover margin (+1.0), fourth in scoring defense (65.9 ppg), scoring margin (+5.0), rebounding (37.5 rpg) and rebound margin (+4.3) and fifth in scoring (70.9 ppg) and defensive rebounds (25.9 drpg).

Colorado has allowed just 63.2 points during conference play, ranking third on the league charts. Colorado held California to 46 points, tying for the fourth-fewest by the Buffaloes against a conference opponent in the Pac-12 era. The Buffs have held five conference opponents to 46 or fewer in the Pac-12 era, three have come this season.
...

ABOUT THE SUN DEVILS: Arizona State is 18-8 overall and tied with Oregon for fifth place in the Pac-12 standings at 9-6. The Sun Devils have won three of their last four including a road sweep in the Bay Area last week. Arizona State averages 71.2 points while shooting 41.9 percent from the field. Defensively, the Sun Devils are holding opponents to 66.7 points per game and has the second-best field goal percentage defense in the Pac-12 at 38.8 percent.

Senior guard Desmond Cambridge, Jr., leads ASU at 13.7 points and 1.5 steals per game. Sophomore guard Frankie Collins averages 11.2 points and ranks fifth in the Pac-12 at 4.6 assists per game. Senior forward Warren Washington averages 8.6 points and leads the Sun Devils in rebounding (7.0 rpg) and blocked shots (1.9 bpg) while shooting 57.4 percent from the field.

SERIES RECORDS: This will be the 26th meeting between Colorado and Arizona State with the Buffaloes holding a 14-11 series lead. Arizona State won the season's first meeting, a 60-59 decision on Dec. 1 in Boulder. ASU has won the last two meetings, but the Buffaloes have still had the advantage in seven of the last 11. The Sun Devils hold an 8-3 advantage in Tempe, but Colorado has its last two appearances at Desert Financial Arena.

Out of all the coaches in this league that annoy me Bobby Hurley is at the top of the list (maybe Hurley #1a, Enfield #1b). God I’d love a win tomorrow

No chance on Sat. Could get ugly fast . But I’m mildly curious to see how LL handles Ballo

LL will get 2 early fouls for actually playing D on Ballo, which isn't allowed by the PAC-12 refs.

I can't agree more with Bobby being the most annoying, whiny bitch in the entire conference.

ASU is our last chance for a win, possibly this season. MAYBE U$C at home, but that's not a gimmie. AZ, UCLA, and UTar are going to kick our teeth in. Current standings have us vs. tree in the 1st round, but we'll fall with 4/5 loses, and probably end up somewhere 9/10 and play a washington. *barf*

Ballo plays for UofA.

Tonight is about not turning the ball over while controlling the glass.

Saturday is hoping for a unicorn game of shooting lights out while UA is brick city.

I was replying to pMoney52, in which he stated, and I quote: "But I’m mildly curious to see how LL handles Ballo"

And yes, I know that game isn't tonight, but it's still what I see happening on Saturday. What with the PAC-12 refs love for all things Colorado

You might need those in the last 2 minutes when we're down 18.
