After hearing him at his presser today and with EB on board as well, has anyones opinions on the hire changed?

btw, this is a NOW poll. I realize he has a lot to prove and talk is talk, he will have to prove it on the field, but how do you feel right now about this?

I have to say, I am very excited about the future of Colorado football. We have coaches who care so much for the success of this program and they know what it takes. Personally I do think Embo's resume is good, not great, but good. He is no Dave Logan as far as experience (as some were emplying) thats for sure, but he is smart and has passion for the school. I think the passion is a huge thing that greatly makes up for the lack of coordinator or HC experience.I am behind him 100%!

    GO BUFFS!!!

I must admit, I would have preferred a proven BCS HC, but in general, I am pleased.

When I first heard the rumors that Embree was the guy, I wasn't overly thrilled. After reading more on his background I got a little more on board with the hire. And after hearing him speak today, I'm 100% behind him and very excited for the future.

wait and see. but cautiously optimistic.

i do feel like we hired a good person who will coach footballl, not someone who spends more time talking about being a good person and such, per se, waiting for some depersonalized force to reward CU for being good people. clears throat.

Liked it from the start. It only got better when EB's name was being tossed around.
I think Embo will do a fine job.

I have already been outspoken about my support of this hire since day one, with or without EB (but better with him). The press conference just gave everyone a small taste of what he is like.

Make no mistake, that is the way that Embree is all of the time. Intense, direct, passionate.

I like the hire, with the caveat that anyone doing a job for the first time has a learning curve. If he is able to add more experience to his staff (including keeping Cabral) then I like it even more. Lots of brains on that man and lots of football know how, including motivation. My guess is that he is a guy kids will run through walls for. Now if he can just recruit a few who can do that faster....

    I was reading this article:
    http://www.cubuffs.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=205042984

and this quote jumped out at me:

"I feel like I'm going to have a great staff - some guys I've worked with, some I've come up with from research," he said. "I started in June, putting a potential staff together or at least thinking about it. Through that process, I identified some guys that would help us win, some guys that would help us recruit the best players, all guys with top credentials."

He may be lacking in HC experience, but he's been preparing. Preparing to execute his plan longer than anyone else that interviewed.

I think the telling statement Embree made was that 5 years ago he wasn't really ready for the CU job. Working with Herm and Shanny taught him a lot about the management of a team. The guy is astute. Cabral, interviewed by CJ/Klatt today said he is coming back because he would not miss this train ride even though he aspires to be a head coach. Has there ever been a coaching hire where two of the losers hire on with the guy who got the job? I'm guessing Embree's acceptance of the job was contingent on getting the contract/money for EB from Bohn. EB will get his shot in two or more years. Embree acknowledged that today. Me gots a hard on today.

I'm a bit skeptical about the Coaching hire. It distinctly reminds me of when Nebraska hired Callahan. Except Callahan has no real connection with the program going in.

I know one thing for sure. The Buffs have made a huge step in the right direction. We'll see how far he can take the program.

Truthfully, I'm more excited about the assistants that are supposedly coming in. Walt Harris, EB, Brown, Kennedy - all are solid guys who know how to win and know how to recruit.

Feel a little better after the presser and with eb on board. It's time to turn the page and get on board. It's been and I've been so negative about cu football it's got to stop. If things go bad, it can be addressed then but it's time for CU to get back and I'm behind embree and staff.

And thats mainly what succesful programs have, is good staffs. Mac would have never did what he did without great staffs. Embree is a leader and he looks like he will be very good at managing a team.

With new coaches I guess the proof will be in the pudding ya know? Hawkins was a genius hire I thought when you got him but it didn't pan out. I hope it works out for you guys and and pimp slap USC and all the other gay bag teams in the Big 10. Good luck guys....we're both gonna need it.

Callahan spent time as a position coach at Illinois, Northern Arizona University, University of Wisconsin then moved to the NFL and worked as a position coach for Philadelphia and Oakland then was named as head coach for Oakland and found some success there. He also found himself out of the job and parted ways with Al Davis (go figure). He was named as head coach at Nebraska which was his first college head coaching job. We all know what happened next.

Embree is a younger guy, which could work in his favor at CU or it could be a problem. Time will tell. His coaching experience includes time at various positions coaching at UCLA, and Kansas City and was the tight ends coach for the Redskins. He is taking a shot at being the Head Coach for the Buffs with limited experience leading a college team.

Embree is much like Callahan with no experiences finding real success really even as a coordinator for any length of time in the college ranks. Not saying he is not the right guy though.

Fact is, I hope the Buffs have found their man. I really dislike most all of the Pac 10+2 teams.

Embree and Callahan each have experiences in the NFL working in the ranks. For Callahan that's what he is really good at. Just look at what he has done working for the NY Jets. Embree has much of the same experiences as Callahan in the NFL, with the exception has not had the experience of being a head coach in the NFL.

One benefit Embree has over Callahan is that he will not change the whole culture of the football program and dish the strong traditions, abandon the alumni and try to recreate where total reconstruction is not needed.

Maybe I'm wrong but there are similarities between Embree an Callahan, but hopefully there are enough striking differences to allow Coach Embree to succeed where Hawkins couldn't.

100% support. I was really on the Hawk bandwagon for the longest time, especially given my low opinion of Barnett. I still think Hawk was the right gamble for the Buffs, although in hindsight, a very major failure. As for Embree, I think we got the best we could afford - I wouldn't want a so-so FBS coach, or full-of-baggage "successful" FBS coach, just because he has "head coach" experience. Embree will lift this program for sure (it can't be any worse, can it?), and even if he ends up a 6-6/7-5 coach for the next 3-4 years, I'll take that given the current state of the program. At worse, he will set up a much improved program for success for the next coach. At best, he will stay with us for umpteen years leading us back to the glory days. Go Buffs!!
