Other than blowing the department's budget on hookers and blow, what are some changes you would make?

I'm talking outside the fundraising program which I believe we pretty much all agree is the primary job of the new AD.

What are some quick fixes that would make an impact?

Here are a few I thought of:

    1. Outsource the ticket office for football (possibly other sports as well) to a ticket brokerage marketing company.

    2. Provide deep discounts on tickets to students, faculty and employees at other CU campuses. Run buses from those campuses to CU home football games.

    3. Create a special student ticket section in the seats closest to the field for football games based on joining the club, learning the cheers, wearing the t-shirts and showing up early for the games. (Utah does this and it's very effective.)

#1 would be to set up a crowd sourcing site to fund specific projects. Make donating easy and specific.

#2 sell raffle tickets (if allowed by NCAA) for cool stuff. Field passes during game, get to call in one play, court side seats etc.

#3 emphasize priority points. Send an monthly statement. People are competitive.

Partner with a digital/media company to help define and market the vision and roadmap for the AD and promote the hell out of it.

Utilize the electronic/social media to promote smaller and project specific campaigns

Engage the current students and build the culture of long term affiliation with CU - both from an involvment and giving standpoint

Fix the sound system in the stadium

Enhance the gameday experience - featured tailgate on the stadium screens during timeouts (not having cops shut them down), tailgate contest sponsors like Grill Mates or Johnsonville, improve concession offerings, beer garden, etc.

Sell beer in the stadium - damn the perception. If the Pac does not prohibit it, sell it

There are more but that is a start.

Plant a bunch of heroin in Distephano's car, call the cops on him, and tell him if he aint first, he's last. Then I would put him in a car with a cougar, tell him he's got heroin strapped to the bottom of it, and that I've called the cops.

Lot's of good ideas in this thread. I would also make it a priority to tack on a student fee to help fund facilities improvements. In fact, I might not take the job unless Phil and Bruce agreed up front.

As of early this year, #1 has been done - ticket sales at CU for football and MBB have been outsourced to IMG Learfield Sports, although ticket operations are still under the control of the university... http://m.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Closing-Bell/2013/01/09/IMG.aspx

#3 is a terrific idea - to build on it further, over the long term, I'd love to see a student loyalty program that encourages student attendance at all CU athletic events, and not just the ones that are traditionally popular like FB and MBB...

I attended UCCS for a year and then graduated from CU Denver and I was always disappointed that there were never student tickets for UCCS and CU Denver students. I think including those schools would go along way. I know this was said earlier but felt like adding my thoughts

Don't students already get special pricing, at least those on the Boulder campus?

Bring football back to Folsum (from Mile High).

I would do more to get recent graduates re-engaged with the athletic department. I'd establish a recent graduate ticket program that would provide for discounted tickets for a period of five years to graduates of any CU campus. It's easy to get distracted after you graduate. Saturdays in the Fall need to be spoken for.

But but but athletic fees are already 3% of the current student fee! No way we can raise it!

I agree though, raise it up to something like 5% or $37.50 from $28.50 and you raise the money you get from the athletic fee from ~$750,262.20/year to ~$987,187.50/year.

Agreed. When I was at UCD in the fall of 2010 it was a huge pain in the ass to get tickets and once I did, I couldn't go in the student entrance.

I thought CU allocated a certain # of student tickets for UCCS/CU-Denver students?

I guess technically, they're in the student section but they make it a big pain in the ass since you can't go in the student entrance and the other entrances go a lot faster than the student entrance

So there was an upside. Why the hell would anyone want to intentionally go through the crappy student entrance?

Normally I'd agree but I was with friends who were at CU so it was a pain in the ass waiting for them

Note to future AD. Keep separate entrance for non-CU student poors

I thought they did something like this, but it definitely wasn't 5 years, maybe one year max. In true CU ticket office fashion, I couldn't find any info about it, so I am going to have to assume that I am wrong.
