As mentioned by other posters, I too felt this was a wasted year. I had the schedule picked as a 4-8 to 5-7 year with Hawk gone after we lose to the Corn. The most disturbing thing about this game is that we looked as bad, if not worse than, our 58-0 drubbing by Mizzou in 2008. I also knew we would lose (road game), but I thought it would only be by 2 TD's.
I guess my frustration is this: these are Hawk's players, period. All of these guys are his guys. Save Paterson and Clemons, they have all been playing in his "system" for 3 to 4 years. I am using the word "system" pretty loosely, since I can't call our version of football a system. I do think we are talented, but regardless, I have the feeling next year will be another "rebuilding" year.
There are bright spots, we do have talented players, but with no identity, they can't showcase their talent. Paterson Clemons, Richardson, McKnight, these are good, and some great, receivers. Speedy is a good situational back, and we do have really, really good CB's. Kasa, Herrod, Major, etc, these guys are good and would be great with some good coaching and systems geared towards their skills. All fingers, especially the middle ones, point to the coaches.
I personally feel it's going to get worse from here. Hawaii is no slouch, I have been having nightmares about what Georgia is going to do to us, and don't get me started on Mizzou and OU. We are in for a long, long season. I was so confident in an abysmal season (and financially strapped), that for the first time since 2004 I am not flying home to watch a game in person.
Also, during the game: WHAT WAS THAT CRAP ABOUT HOW HAWK HAD A TOUGH TIME TURNING THINGS AROUND WHEN HE GOT TO BOULDER?!?! About how he had to teach a bunch of individuals to play as a team and to get them to buy into his system?!?! Yeah IT'S CALLED BEING A HEAD COACH OF A DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL TEAM! That's why you are paid 1 million plus a year genius!! TO COACH!!!
I have and always will support the players, they are out there wearing our colors trying to make this a better program, and most if not all of them know this is Hawk's last year. I will still watch/listen to every game I can, I will still bleed BLACK and GOLD, but once it was announced that Hawk was back after the Corn last year, I knew there wouldn't be much to cheer about till September.....of 2011.
