They suggested that the Big 12 should extend a membership to Boise and Arkansas.
Arkansas would lose some money by jumping to the Big 12, but they could probably go undefeated and play for national championships instead of having to play in the SEC West - which is by far the toughest divison of any conference. Boise - who knows - I'd say they would have winning seasons, but going undefeated - forget about it.

It would be stupid for Arkansas to leave the SEC.

Yep, we will never leave the SEC. Craig James just wants the days of the old SWC back. We got out from under Texas over 20 years ago, something A&M and OU didn't have the stones to do this past year. We make too much money to leave the SEC. Oh and as far as the national title thing, I think we have done pretty well to be playing in a Sugar Bowl in Petrino's third season. I'd rather get to the title game playing a real schedule as opposed to some weak new Big 12 schedule where we would only have to get up for 2-3 games a year.

The very idea that Arkansas would move to the Big 12 is laughable. I swear sometimes these talking heads just throw ridiculous stuff out there just to see if there's any kind of reaction. Honestly, the Big 12 is a dying conference. It's on life support as it is, and Arkansas would leave the SEC for that? REALLY?!?!?

I see no way that Texass gets a top school that's already in a top conference to jump conferences into the Mack10. They're gonna have to go after the non-bcs schools. Craig James is an idot.

i'm not really buying all of a sudden that Arkansas is going to run roughshod through UT and OU. Petrino has done a nice job but "going undefeated" is an assertion that lacks historical support, in my view. However, if i'm Arkansas, i want NO part of a SWC type reunion with Austin.

For the money, it's makes no sense, but from a chance to play for a national championship - James is right. Look at Boise, they are still rated one or two spots ahead of LSU, and more than a half dozen ahead of Bama. There are currently 5 teams from the SEC WEST rated in the top 25. If I were a Razorback fan, I wouldn't want the easy road to the BCS championship, but TCU almost made it this year.

I think we are getting ahead of ourselves with Arkansas. Sure, the SEC pays well with great competition, but this is Arky's first BCS bowl. FIRST! That means they have exactly the same amount of BCS games as Hawaii, Purdue, Kansas, Wazzou, Oregon St, Louisville, UConn, Wake Forest, Maryland.

That's not very good company, especially when many posters in this thread are elevating Arkansas to an "elite" level. If anything, they are a former power trying to find its way back (like A&M, Washington, Syracuse). They've had some good seasons in the past 10-15 years, but this may be their first great season.

Arky would never leave unless they got mad money, but I can see the thought behind it. One of the main reasons A&M wants/wanted to go to the SEC is to rekindle their rivalry with Arkansas. This would undercut that and basically ensure A&M would stay home.

Never happen, but I can see the thought process behind it.

I do not think the egos in TX will allow these types of changes to be made. They do not want a lousy ID market and are sure not going to bring in Arky in the South which will only make the road more difficult for TX and OU. This league will implode the first chance some of the have nots have a chance to leave. Missouri and KU will bolt if offered and those will be the first steps to seeing the Big XII disolve forever.

Edit: Not to mention, TAMU will bold to the SEC if offered. They are never going to see the revenue they were promised.

No chance. Arky is on the SEC gravy train and their football team is poised to be the best team in the West for awhile, IMO. Plus, the Big 12 is a sinking ship. Adding Arky and someone else wouldn't change that.

I'll take those three dumb humans over Trev Alberts or Artie Gigantino. Those two frakkers annoyed the **** out of me! Do you all remember Artie on FSN? It seemed like we got stuck with that clown for color commentary almost every game when he was working for them. I had switch to KOA for audio whenever I heard his voice.

The Big 12's only realistic "steal" from another BCS conference is if they can convince Louisville to jump ship from the Big(ger) East. In order to do that they would need to add someone like Memphis (a long-time rival) that would help "bridge" the geographic gap.

Louisville and Memphis to the North along with Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, and Iowa State would mean Louisville and their newly upgraded 63,000 seat stadium would be able to compete with Mizzou as the "top dog" in that division. Adding both of those basketball schools would also increase the marketability of the Big 12's hoops (which is already pretty damn good too).

Neither one of those programs get much in the way of TV revenues in their current conferences, so going to the Texas-dominated Big 12 would actually improve their lot. $3 million per team that plays both football and basketball in the Big East and around $1 million for Conference USA members. Even getting Longhorn and Sooner table scraps would increase that payout. The bowl game options would get a lot better as well.

Right now Big East football is only relevant because of Pittsburgh and West Virginia. No other teams provide much marketing punch and it is debatable that even Pitt does that. Being in a league with Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri would certainly be an upgrade.

The Big 12 would gain through addition by subtraction as well. Eliminating some of the power of the Big East would counteract the addition of TCU to the Big East, it would force the Big East to add another Conference USA member (Central Florida, East Carolina, Houston, etc) further diluting their football product. Taking away one of the premiere basketball programs would also hurt the Big East. The Big East TV contracts expire after the 2013 season and they will begin negotiating soon. That would be 3 years before the Big 12 can redo theirs, and it is possible that the newly expanded Big East could approach Big 12ish numbers at that time. Making the move now would cut the revenue potential for the Big East to take up some of the market, in addition to weakening the Big East's football power around the time of the BCS evaluation criteria.

That is much more likely "food for thought" than the Big 12 sweet talking a team away from the SEC. Craig James needs to go sit in the ESPN toolshed and think about how much of a tool he really is.

They will have alot of stiff competition - the only unranked team in the west this year is Ole Miss. I don't think any team will own the SEC west. Best division of any major conference by far. None even close to those teams. If Auburn wins the BCS NC - it will be the 3rd team from that division.

Fred Smith (CEO and Founder of FedEx) has offered $10,000,000 per year for a BCS League to take Memphis. Their football just sucks balls and can't get any traction in SEC country without a BCS conference.

How is that possible? Isn't Mallett gone after this year? He is the whole team.

You are right. I think that is the Big XII (X?)'s best play. Boise is so one-dimensional, and who's to say they aren't brought down to Earth in a big-boy conference. The fact remains that BSU would still be a small, below average school in a small, removed market. Houston and New Mexico may be solid, but they don't really deliver new markets or national names. Louisville is the best mix of all sports, a decent market, and a nationally known name. If Memphis can get its football program going, they would be very similar to Louisville.

guess you didn't watch the razorbacks much. Their backup QB played most of the auburn game and had them up in the 4th quarter before some "questionable" calls ruined the hogs. Oh ya, and their RB (who will be perhaps the best back in the SEC next year if healthy) averaged like 130 yards per game on over 5 or 6 ypc over the last 6 games. He didn't start early in the year, including the bama game. He starts that game, Arky wins. The hogs are not a one trick pony anymore, and they return ALL their disgusting WR talent and a top 20 D.

So glad we made the move to the 12 Pac! We are safe now no matter what happens in the future now that we are aligned with the big schools on the west coast and the LA market.
