The strength and conditioning coaching carousel makes me laugh. When Pittman arrived, he was all the rage, talking about how only x number of players could squat x amount. Barnett's S&C coach (forget his name now) was an NFL guy and supposedly focused on flexibility. Everyone wanted the switch. Now everyone wants Pittman gone. When Mad Dog was at CU there was a camp that was happy when he left. Bottom line, when the team is losing, the S&C coach is a convenient scapegoat.

Whatever happened to former S&C coach Krieger/Kreis (can't recall his name, actually)....wasn't there some minor controversy in regards to him issuing out steroids or something?

Mad Dog is fat. Say no to fat guys who are supposed to condition athletes.

there was also a guy after Doc, for one or two years with GB.

Mad Dog has been a target of horn scorn since the early 00's...there used to be double digit page threads about the linemen's pot bellies. MD had a little renaissance and is back on the snide with horn fan.

Yes, I think he was formerly with the Tenn Titans. I can't find his name.

Doc is another example. People liked him until the team started losing. Then, Doc was responsible for every injury.

I would take Maddog in a minute. The guy is a great recruiting resource once the players get on campus. Pittman is a joke.

Don't have any photos, but all you need are barbells, benches, squat racks, plates, oly lifting platforms, sandbags, pullup bars, GHD machines, boxes, sleds, kettlebells , cones and parachutes.

The emphasis on everything else is mainly garbage. 400lbs is 400lbs weather or not it has a CU logo on it or not. It brings the kids in, but that's the only thing it does versus "nicer" weightrooms.

BTW, Pittman does suck. Our technique is absolutely abysmal, especially the squat. A lot of our guys "squat" 600lbs, but it's only a quarter squat, if that. That only tears up your knees. That would NEVER be accepted in a powerlifting contest because it would just be too dangerous. Most guys quarter squatting 600lbs would only manage 400lbs or so to parallel and up; that's a big difference when you consider how big our guys are.

Also, we do too much cardio. Counter-productive to strength and explosive training. The longest a play on the field is going to be is 30s. No need to run 3 miles. Get your conditioning doing sprints for 5 minutes on/off in interval training. Ugh.

I agree with you entirely on Pittman...I've hated him ever since I saw that atrocious video bragging about our kids cleaning when all it did was show was horrible form. Quick question though - where do you get info about us doing 3 mile runs? I think anything under 30 minutes straight cardio is acceptable, but anything over tends to really be counterproductive to power/explosion.

It was in an article about their punishment for losing/playing poorly a while back. If you want to make them hate their workouts make them hit a PR in the squat, dl and clean and then combine it with sprints. Most of these guys would be able to run 3miles in 30minutes or less, even at their bodyweight.

Suicides are better conditioning for football players and are a lot harder to do. Puke.

Study after study has shown that cardio isn't a good thing for explosive athletes. Look at the body of Usain Bolt vs the body of the winner of the Boston Marathon. We want the former, most definitely not the latter. You train the human body to specialize; it cannot be a jack-of-all trades; instead, it becomes a master of nothing.

I understand what you are saying, but any new coach is going to want top quality facilities. Take a look at what is at Nebraska or Oregon for their strength and conditioning facilities. I don't have a link to Oregon's, but I do have one for the Husker facility used by the football team. It's top notch and will get better with Suh's contribution toward more upgrades. Recruits these days want to see this kind of facility, along with a top strength coach to help them excel to the next level.

Just keep in mind that during the search for your new football coach. Any prospective candidate for the position will expect top facilities or an action plan in place for serious upgrades in the areas needed to compete at at top level expected by the fans.

Pitman is in the same camp as Riddle and Hawkins, in that seemingly every "available" candidate is better than the current guy. In a span of about three years Madden had the best O-line in the country and then the best D-line. He'd be the hottest candidate out there, plus his kinda testosterone cheerleader schtick leading the team out of the tunnel may help from this regime's emotional flatline. Imagine seeing Ralphie run followed by something of similar size and then the team. Fun.

Not without its question marks though. Look at the front lines the past couple years when Madden's had lesser talent to develop. Made him look foolish. Plus 8-9 years ago there was a little rumor, not confirmed anywhere, that Mad Dog was racist. Tougher on the white players in workouts. Likely hearsay, but uh oh.

Plus, you get to sit in your office and eat chicken wings with the rest of the "dogs" all day right? How about Super Dave Dave Plettl for CU strength coach, FLA. What say you?

Agreed. You don't need anything, but the desire for humans to want stuff is the cause for top notch facilities. 18 year olds are the most impressionable people in the world. It's the reason why you have stories of Miles and Brown essentially flaunting their wealth during recruitment.

I like the fact that we don't have an indoor practice facility--I know we have a bubble--since there is only, what, two college teams that play inside at the FBS level (Idaho and Syracuse). QBs need to know how to play in the snow, rain and really windy conditions as well as the rest of the team. However, kids don't want to practice outside so you "need" to have one. Lord help them if they get drafted and have to play in Green Bay.

The lack of a nice weight room is not why we are not creating beasts though. At the gym I go to I routinely see a guy clean 320lb, squat 650lbs and deadlift over 700lbs. The iron never lies and the guy has the will and determination to be a badass. Our S&C sucks in both the weight room and at the training table where you actually do gain weight. There were tales of one of our OT failing to gain weight. He would try "everything" and eat everything, but wasn't gaining weight. Just put him on a GOMAD (gallon of milk a day) diet where a gallon of whole milk is 3k calories PLUS a lot of stuff like red meat and veggies. You'll gain size and strength like mad (I gained about 15lbs in 3 months).

Mental toughness and a strong will create legit PR numbers. Not a nice curl rack (which we have btw, get that **** out of there).
