Did anyone catch what the official ruling was? did the refs blow the whistle or the call?
i was shocked it wasn't a safety. give credit to UT's guys, they didn't let up on Josh. planted him pretty good....no whistle, keep playing.
I didn't see the whole play, but my guess is the entire ball never left the plane of the end zone.
The commentators said the ball did not cross the plane even though his feet did. I am glad the UT player planted him, maybe that lesson will stick....
The entire ball has to leave the end zone and then go fully back in before it'd be a safety. Even had Josh left the end zone on that play, his forward progress would've given us the ball at the 1-inch line.
I'm glad he got pile drived. I don't know what the hell he was thinking.
I was thinking that too...no mater what it could not have been a safety...in any event, it makes me sick to my stomach to watch that crap over an over
Maybe we should hire Mr. Williams to coach special teams.
It looks like he almost tossed the ball to the ref though. Can you imagine?
I thought maybe he was waiting to see if Texas coverage guys were peeling off and heading for the bench, assuming it was a touchback, which would give him an opportunity for a big return (Wan't there a guy in the NFL that started a kickoff return that way?). But obvioulsy they weren't falling for it. If I was Hawk, I would have told him that he paid for it by taking a big hit. Glad he didn't drop the ball.
Terrell Buckley did that twice. Catch the ball stand there and then take off after the other team thinks it's a dead ball.
Well, if he steps out, then steps back in on his own, then there is no forward progress outside of the endzone. Which is kind of what happened, except he never fully brought it out.
You can't get the ball at the 1-inch line, because then the back of the ball would be on the goal line, so that'd be either a safety or a touchback (depending on what team is responsible for putting the ball in the endzone).
smith is such a trickster that he even fooled himself into not doing anything.
Got it. Thanks, although looking at the vid that Mick posted, it sure looks like the ball was over the line.
...or maybe Jerry Lewis. :rim shot::smile2:
As if it would have made a difference?
OU did something very similar in last year's CU game.
A guy at work today said there is speculation that he may have heard a whistle so thought the play was dead. Apparently, there was an obnoxious tu fan blowing a whistle.
According to the commentators, the ball didn't cross the line all the way. The official probably wanted to let him off the hook as well. Frankly, I was watching and was, like, "What the hell is he doing? Is he going to just walk toward the line then take off? WHAT THE HELL? OH NO! WHAT WAS HE ****ING THINKING!!! YOU IDOT!!!
How on Earth can you tell from looking at that video?
I can't believe he did that, very, very, very, very, very, very dumb play. Kid is good though.
