I just realized how far Kansas has fallen this year...probably proving that last year was a fluke.
I assume that they will loose their last two conference games, which means they will end at 6-6, but look at their schedule. We are their best win! Seriously weak wins...

    Florida International W 40-10
    Louisiana Tech W 29-10
    South Florida L 34-37
    Sam Houston State W 38-14
    Iowa State W 35-33
    Colorado W 30-14
    Oklahoma L 31-45
    Texas Tech L 21-63
    Kansas State W 52-21
    Nebraska L 35-45

    Texas Probable L
    Missouri Probable L

If we end up 6-6 like they will, we better get selected over them for a bowl.

Mangiant has a great base that he can grow on. I don't see them returning to doormat anytime soon. They are ahead of us on the B12 N ladder.

Texas and Missouri will be tough.

That is why the KU loss was so devastating IMO. They are not a top 20 team. I suspected they would be exposed as the Jayfrauds. The loss to a middle of the road USF team led me to believe the Buffs would have a fighting chance in Lawrence.

Mangino is a good coach and has done quite well there, but they are nothing but a product of a weak, weak, weak schedule last year.

    :yeahthat:

I thought KU was severely overrated last year due to their schedule. Last year's team with this year's schedule would've been maybe 8-4 and far out of the BCS picture.

Well, all their losses this year (including the next 2) would come at the hands of a top 25 team except for the NU loss. KU was not predicted to win the north. Either way you can't look at KU on the schedule anymore and pencil it in as a win.

True. So I guess the KU loss doesn't look as bad on paper, but the fact remains, they are a pretty crappy team. I'm just disappointed because the Buffs have shown the same level of crappiness. At the start of the season, I felt like CU had a good shot to run through the WVU,FSU,UT,KU, KSU,MU gauntlet beating at least three of those teams. KSU I considered all most a gimme in that stretch. When CU took out WVU, I felt like it was real likely they could take three of those, since KU looked ripe for the picking, and coupled with the CSU and EWU wins, they had a shot at 7-8 W's. I figured ISU would be number 6, NU and aTm could be 7 and 8 respectively. Even if CU dropped the aTm or NU game, I felt 7 was likely.

Now I am not so sure they'll even get to 6 W's, and if they do, they are a tossup for a bowl. Ah, now I'm done venting....

    Injuries. Injuries. Injuries.

We mighta done better if we still had an offensive line. We have a hard time being productive on offense at all. Hansen is in because he can run away from pressure. That's a sign that we have had issues this year.

    Next year will be better.

They might not return to doormat, but they haven't exactly established themselves as a perennial contender.

This year's "must win" game for me was KSU. Next year it is KU. I cannot stomach a fourth straight loss to those ****ers.

I never said they were a perennial contender. But they will not always be as easy to beat as they used to. ManGiant is a good coach. Can he recruit and sustain that recruiting? That's the question.

I'd agree that we NEED to beat them next year as well. But we have a lot of questions of our own that are still unanswered.

If you want to discuss predictions, Phill Steele (generally considered to be the most reliable of the prognosticators) prophecized that CU would finish second-to-last in the Big XII North, just ahead of Iowa State.

    BUT...

That prediction came prior to Academic casualties, Fataagi, Tau and Simas (who Steele considered second team All-Big XII, preseason at receiver) and injuries to Miller (also 2nd teamer pre-season, I believe), MTM, Hudgins and you know the rest.

Predictions are spotty at best, but you can only imagine where Steele would have placed us if he knew we'd operate sans those key players. Certainly last in our division, there's no doubt in my mind. I'm not saying that our team has overachieved, and that we couldn't have picked up a few more wins (Kansas and aTm), but I think when one steps back, eliminates the emotion, it coulda been worse.

Now let's get that bowl eligibility!

I don't think he is good at recruiting at all. Right now they have a scrappy little quarterback that is making them look at lot better then they should. They don't have much outside of him, and that points to bad recruiting. They finished 12-1 last year and Hawk took him to the woodshed recruiting wise, and I will bet will do the same this year when their records are about even.

Meh... as of right now, this class doesn't look like it's exactly taking anyone to the woodshed.

Also, Kansas had some exceptional defensive players graduate last year, not just Reesing - Aqib Talib was probably the best corner in cfb last year.

If you look at their NC schedule for 09 it's very simaler to the one they had in 07. And for that, they get no respect from me. In my mind, any school that schedules cupcake teams year in and year out should get far less consideration for a BCS bowl berth. I personally see them going back to the depths of where they traditionally dwelled for decades. At the bottom.

The thing with KU is, as Reesing goes, so their team goes. They were hit hard losing a couple key players on D and one of their O linemen who was their anchor. Their running game has been down this season as well. You still can't call last season a fluke. Their one loss was a game they should've won against mizzery. They went into a BCS game a HEAVY underdog and won. Mangino needs to tighten up his recruiting though. I know that NU took the top LBer in the state from him last year and just took another last week that was originally comitted to KU.

If both CU and KU finish 6-6 I doubt that CU will be picked over KU for a bowl game. I guess it would come down to who would travel better???

The thing that really pisses me off though is that the BCS will reward you even if you play against cupcakes week in & week out...so really it is almost being smart to chalk up some easy ass victories in all your NC games...as lame as that ****ing is

It will take another year or two, but I agree that KU will not be able to sustain their success of late. One more year of Reesing, but with the heavy hitters of the Big 12 South to play - another 6-6 or 7-5 season based on a 3-1 or 4-0 non-conference schedule. Then it's back to mediocrity.

KU this year Will Go OVER us for a bowl and they deserve to go over us. they are the better team this year. (ugh) but i don't think that team has any real potential to be a lasting power. I'm just counting the days till Reesing leaves and then we or nebraska... probably Nebraska will fill the void left in the north for leader in our division. I don't know. Do you guys think that there could be 3 powers in the north division.? (Mizzou. NU. And CU.) possible?

Hopefully. But more hopefully the order is CU, NU, Mizzou.

Next year should be interesting. As young as your team is, if you can bounce back from the injuries and decide on a damn QB, you should be much improved and competing for the north. NU returns a ton of players on both O and D but must find a QB. With no blowouts this season we haven't seen the backups get any real reps so who knows what's there? Mizzou will be the biggest mystery. They have a very talented backup in Blaine Gabbert, but it's hard to say how ready he'll be for the big time. They lose Daniel and Coffman along with the core of their D. I see them having a season similar to 06. Decent team, will make a decent bowl, but will not be killing people like they have been. ISU is still aways out, KU will be about the same, and KSU will be bottomfeeding, AGAIN!

Good analysis for next year. My comment was meant for sometime soon and most likely not in '09. Next year I see MU on top with NU, KU, and CU fighting for next three slots. Despite losing boogereater, I still think Mizzou has enough to keep the north for next year. In '10, who the **** knows. Guess we will just have to wait for it to get closer.

mizzou will not win the north next year. Losing the best QB they will ever have at that school should put them right back at 6 and 6, where they belong.

Frankly the old order reasserts itself next year. NU and CU will meet in Folsom to decide the north title. Kansas will be pesky with Reesing still there, but he just does not have the support around him to get that team over the hump. That program is gonna be UGLY after he leaves.

Agreed. Even though I don't like Neb. that helps the rivalry when we play for the North last game of the regular season.
