This has probably already been talked about, but here are my thoughts for next year.

I really want to believe that we will be significantly better next year, but I am really discouraged right now. There has been a lot of talk since Hawk has been here and next year we better start seing him and the buffs back it up. I think our offense can be a lot better and will be very talented if we stay healthy. Defense worries me, especially the D-line.

My early look at the schedule

CSU: W. Although it will be a tough win. CSU impressed me this year, however they do lose a lot including their QB and Gartrell Johnson.

@ Miami, OH: W Confident about this, but a road east coast game worries me too.

Wyoming: W. The pokes aren't that good, plus new coach.

@ West Virginia: L This one worries me.

@ Texas: L Texas has not been kind to us since '01 CCG.

Kansas: W We need to finally beat these guys.

@ Kansas St: W Snyder back is a joke

Missouri: W Chase is gone, and they have a weak D. Buffs pay back time!

Texas a&M: W Should have beat them this year down there.

@ Iowa St: L Our WTF kind of loss

@ Oklahoma St: L Dont like our chances

Nebraska: W I was shocked they beat us after we sacked them on third down, buffs return favor next year with a win over the huskers. Likely for Big 12 north crown.

CSU is pretty confident about next year. The staff stated they lose 3 starters on both sides. On offense, they are not concerned about their QB, as he barely fended off the play of the younger QB. They lose Gartrell and Sperry. They get all of their WR's back and they are GIDDY about two WR's who redshirted this year. ONe is from FL and is said to be unstoppable - on a fast train to the league........

Given that this is CSU's Super Bowl, I'd expect it to be a very tough game and I currently would put the Rams down as the favorite. We will find out if we have a DL front in this game. CSU will return their entire O-Line.

Every game is tough game on this schedule. We play the softer North teams on the road in conference (KSU, ISU) and some tougher North teams at home (NU, KU, Mizzou). That just means that every one of those games will be winnable (or loseable).

If we start Hansen at QB, the early season schedule will be tough. His experience is still minimal and efficiency ratings with young QBs is almost always pretty poor.

I agree with most of your post except I don't think CSU will be favored over us. The game is in Boulder and thats an automatic 3 points for us, plus everybody knows what we did to them last year. I agree it will be tough though.

CSU should be favored over the Buffs next year? Are you trying to get a job at the Denver post?

I hate to break it to Buffs fans still stuck in the late 80s, but both CU and CSU players think that game is a pretty big deal. The "it's CSU's Super Bowl" argument went out the window years ago.

The idea that CSU is the favorite is hilarious. Their defense is still pretty bad outside of two LBs. They will be breaking in an extremely inexperienced QB and RB. So while they return their entire offensive line, it won't necessarily be smooth sailing for their running game. It all depends on how the JUCO RB they signed in December turns out. The strength of their offense is their WRs, which will be going against the strength of our defense, the DBs. Factor in it is a road game and I don't see how CSU is the favorite. It should be closer than last year, but that's about it.

As far as the rest of the schedule goes, a lot will depend on what comes out of Spring practices on offense. If Hansen actually wins the QB and we actually have a clear cut starting five on the o-line going into the Fall, I will feel pretty good. If we have uncertainty at QB and 2-3 offensive line positions are still unsettled after Spring practices, watch out.

    Not to be a smartass....

Well, maybe to be a smartass....

    But isn't that THIS year's (2009) schedule?!

    :smile2:

BTW -- I like the predictions but I think ISU gets trounced next year with their new head coach...

The West Virginia game will set the tone for the entire season. If we can win that game and go into our North Conference schedule 4-1 (one loss at Texas), we will be in great shape and could really make some noise. 2010 is our season though, not 2009.

What do you mean when you say "our" season? I think winning 8 or 9 games is more likely next year than in '10 according to our schedule.

True, even Miami worries me to a degree. We should have had a nice road win the day after thansgiving in the '08 season. Can't believe the huskers got another lucky win over us with that pencil neck kicker kicking the longest FG in school history.:sad2:

BTW, I'm ready for the talk to stop and the action starting. Hear we go again with this, "10 wins no excuses" talk from Hawk for '09. Lets see it happen Hawk!

I'm looking forward to seeing the Buffs live and in person in both Austin and Morgantown.

It was great seeing the Buffs win in 2007 in Lubbock where they have never won before. Unexpected wins privide the best memories. It was great seeing the Buffs win the B12CCG in Texas Stadium, as was the last road win in Norman, and their first win in Kyle Field.

    Bring 'em on.

With an unproved Defense and unknown QB, I definitely think '10 is our season, regardless of schedule. Looking at our schedule in '10, we can beat Cal (tough but we can) and Georgia is losing Stafford and Moreno this year, we can beat them at home. Trade out Texas for Oklahoma, trade out an inexperienced defense with a more experienced defense, throw in a tested QB, some solid WRs, a stable of RBs and a veteran OL and we have the makings for a seriously good season.

There is one thing, no matter what year it is, we always have an extremely tough game with either Texas or Oklahoma. I agree, we should be a very talented and experienced team in 2010. I just think the schedule next year is a little easier, if you want to even say easy in it, lol.
You have CSU here in '09 compard to CSU in the Fort in '10, you have Miami, OH, you have Wyoming here in stead of Georgia in 2010, I would say @ WVU is about the same as @ Cal, we face most of the tough North games in Boulder rather than on the road in 2010.
Next couple of years should be intersting, and we will really find out what this program is gonna do or head.

There are 14 offensive linemen on the roster who can return. Many of them now have experience. One of last year's excuses was lack of experience. It looks like 6 tailbacks, 3tight ends and 2 fullbacks will also return. Most of these players have some experience. All of these numbers don't reflect the possibility that injuries or academic problems may occur. Loss of playing time due to injury and ineligibility were the other 2 excuses from last year. The numbers should override any problems.

Even with some losses due to injury or ineligibilty in the above mentioned position groups, there are NO excuses for having an offense ranked last in the conference next season. There are plenty of good players on the line and in the backfield to establish a pretty good running game. Open up the passing over the middle of the field and you have the makings of an effective offense. I don't want to see an offense from "one of the brightest young offensive minds in the country" that was as inadequate as last year. The entire concept for the offense that he established in the spring was bound to blow up in their faces and it did. It was going to blow up even without the big 3 excuses. I knew it was going nowhere as soon as I saw the spring game.

I went on record as saying 8 wins before a bowl game will be minimum for a successful season next year. Coach Dan then came up with "10 wins and no excuses." So that's what I am looking forward to.
