a whole day of college football on the tube. Don't get me wrong, I love my Buffs, but it will be nice to not worry about what CU is doing tomorrow. Just switch between games and relax.

It's so much more fun to do this when CU is relevant.

When CU sucks, the act of watching college football isn't as enjoyable. Now, it's like crack. I can't get enough. I'm watching random games and thinking about if CU could beat these guys.

Loving this season.

I used to watch games and think "Man, CU doesn't have athletes like this". Now I watch games and think "We would destroy this team".
 
Hope we hold our ranking. #25 VT has already picked up a decent road win. #24 Penn State faces awful Purdue.

Tonight will go a long way in determining it. #22 Navy @ South Florida.

Yeah, USF has to win. Either way I hope the playoff committee has us higher than the AP Poll because that's what matters after Monday.

does it really matter?

we now have a playoff, so AP ranking is irrelevant to any final standings.
we now have scores of TV networks and online networks and every game is available, so AP ranking is irrelevant to whether the next game will be on TV.
from a recruiting POV, I'm unconvinced that a 23 vs a 21 ranking makes rat's ass difference.
likewise, I don't believe 21 vs 23 matters a hoot in terms of determining the start time of the Arizona game

Did you not read the second part of my post where I said that the playoff rankings were the only thing that mattered after this week?

apologies. I misread that part of your post as the "AP is only thing that matters..."

Doesn't matter. 25 vs 26 matters. A rank that starts with a 1 matters. A single integer rank matters. A top four matters.

Pretty much 5 buckets, I think, in regard to hype level irrespective of program name:

Unranked
Top 25
10-19
Top Ten (in or knocking on door)
Playoff Team

I think Hokie's comprehension skills have been well documented already.

and.. AP ranking still matters to press coverage and summaries. We want to stay in the top 25. I'm okay with 25, as long as we're on the list. Pretty much what Nik wrote.

For a program that's been in the doldrums, the exposure of top 25 means a lot to me and others.
 
It's nice to have an October Saturday where one doesn't have to stress about the Buffs game. Gameday @ Utah in the morning will be pure pleasure. Go Huskies!
 
Glad that USF took care of business against Navy. I'm excited to see where our ranking could land after these coming weeks, especially going into that Wazzu game. We have the potential for that to be a nice ranked matchup.
