The RV (receiving votes***) Buffs (5-7, 5-7) hit the road for a double header, this Friday and Sunday, against the Wildcats (5-9, 5-9), who are coming off a 1-1 match split with rival ASU last weekend. It looks like Arizona has also played a tough schedule so far, as like the Buffs, they have faced off 8 times against current Top 25 teams this season, so the Buffs will need to bring their best to compete on the road against the Cats, who are 5-2 so far at home in 2021. I'm sure AZ will have a little extra edge this weekend, as their loss to ASU Sunday came in 5 sets after the Wildcats had gone up 2-0.
(***With their tough schedule the last 4 weeks, and coming off a win against then #12 (now #17) UCLA, the Buffs received the 27th most votes in the latest Coaches' (AVCA) poll (https://www.avca.org/polls/di-women/index.html), in spite of their sub .500 record.)

Both matches are scheduled to be on free live streams provided by Arizona. (See below for the link.)

BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's volleyball team heads to Tucson this Friday and Sunday to take on Arizona Friday at 6 p.m. MST and Sunday at 1 p.m. MDT.

The Buffaloes (5-7 Pac-12) are coming off of their biggest win against then No.12 UCLA and it shows as the team has the 27th-most votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll. Wins against Arizona (5-9 Pac-12) would put the Buffs back at .500 and be huge heading into the final quarter of the season.
...

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats head into the weekend with the same number of wins and Colorado, but none against teams above .500. Arizona defeated Stanford during its opening weekend when the Cardinal were ranked 7th in the nation, but Stanford has since gone 1-5 and those ranked wins seem a bit skewed. The Wildcats have a pair of wins against Oregon State and a sweep of Arizona State at home but were recently defeated in a five set match in Tempe by the Sun Devils. Against Utah, Washington and UCLA, Arizona has picked up just one set win, a close 26-24 opening set against the Bruins in their first matchup.

The Wildcats are hitting just .198 as a team while opponents are hitting .231 against just 1.6 blocks per set. Arizona is one of the youngest teams in the conference with freshman Sofia Maldonado Diaz leading the team with 188 kills, 3.84 per set. Another freshman, Jaelyn Hodge, is second on the team with 106 kills while freshman Emery Herman has 430 assists this season. Defensively, sophomore Kamaile Hiapo leads the team with 165 kills, second is Herman with 115. Zyonna Fellows has a team-best 31 blocks.

Bummer- the Buffs can't close out with a 22-17 lead, and lose the 1st 25-27. Serve receive (I'm sure assisted by tough AZ serving) got very rough late (I didn't see the first half of the set to see how they were doing then).

Buffs tie it up 1-1 after a very choppy and back and forth 2nd set finds them getting the last lead that leads to a 25-22 win.

Thanks to the gods that vball uses sets and not just points after the Buffs lose the 3rd 9-25.

The Buffs were in the 4th set ~1/2 way through, but Arizona pulls away from there, and a late comeback attempt by the Buffs falls just a little short as they lose the set 22-25 and match 1-3.

Need to shake this one off and remember how well they can play.

need to find a new libber imo. Too many shanked passes. This team should be better but till they get serious about ball handling they are going to struggle. The coaches will talk about it but till the players make a big step forward on being consistent in ball handling they will be at the bottom of the pac 12

From XC & Track, not the VB account. Daylight Saving Time is rough.

Hehe- I've noticed this kind of thing happen 2 or 3 times the last week or so (No biggie obviously). Assume there may be a new person helping with Buff sports' tweets?

Buffs lose the 1st set 24-26 in a very back and forth set, where the largest lead for either team looked to be 3 points.

Another tight set (in this one it looks like neither team had more than a 2 point lead until late), but in this one the Buffs come back from 19-21 down to score the last 6 points to tie the match at 1-1.

Unlike the 1st 2 sets one team, unfortunately the Buffs, got in an early significant hole as Arizona earned the 1st 5 points in the 3rd with some tough serving and/ or brutal serve-receive. The Buffs were able to get it down to a one point deficit at one point late in the teens, but then AZ got the late momentum to go up 2-1 with a 25-19 3rd set win.

The Buffs lose the 4th set 19-25 and match 1-3.

Need to learn from and then forget about this weekend and get ready (hopefully) for a home and away next weekend against a ranked Utes team.

Tough loss. Did change liberos midway. I thought I heard the Arizona announcer say a player for CU was taken to the locker room in the 4th set but I didn't hear the name. Hope whoever it was will be okay.

It was Rachael Fara. I believe the announcer said she may have been swinging her shoulder around after being replaced, so assume she may have a shoulder and/ or some sort of arm issue. (For those not aware, this was her 1st weekend back after missing I believe the last 3+ matches, also due to injury.)

I knew it was it was her first weekend back--from a shoulder injury. I hope she is able to play next weekend.
