I think I've said a couple of times that I always put question marks behind my expansion posts because I simply have no clue what will happen. Well, with this tidbit, I think I feel secure enough to not post a ? mark. I have a couple of good friends in the media down this way and they and their sources and contacts around Columbia say that Mizzou to the Big 10 is basically done and will be likely as early as next month. I believe the Big 12 has a meeting in early June as well, so that would make sense.
As for NU? I don't have any solid info on them, but it's apparent they are pissed at the Texa-fication of the league and are ready for something new.
I think, at this point, you can go ahead and assume that one or both are bolting the Big 12.
I realize these expansion threads can be taken with a giant block of salt, but this is one piece I feel comfortable in putting myself out there on. I'm fully convinced at this point we'll go into league play in 2010 with Mizzou for sure leaving and NU likely not far behind. Obviously, with how Mizzou has shown its tail on this issue, they're already out the door mentally. They've probably burned so many bridges with the Big 12 that they'd go Coyote Ugly and bolt to CUSA at this point.
I realize CU might have already accepted a Pac-10 invite and that they don't want to be the FIRST school to break up the conference, but within a week of whenever Mizzou makes its announcement, CU needs to bolt. I think June and July will have wave after wave of insane conference shifting news, so Bohn and the school better be ready to act. The Big 12 is about to be ripped apart and I doubt CU fans would like being in the MWC very much. That's where we'll end up if we don't act with force.
