This sums up my feelings on this game

OK, one more time for the folks who can't comprehend the business end of college football.

When Colorado is the home team for the Colorado-Colorado State game, CU should opt to play the game in Boulder if its needed to fill out a six-game ho
    me schedule at Folsom Field.

CU Should call the shots in this series

Woelk is my hero, he lays it down how it is in this article. **** CSU and their fake fans who don't know anything about college football, money or even csu football. Fake ass little program up there in Ft. Fun with fake ass little fans who care more about bringing down cu than supporting csu.

CU does call the shots in the series. That's why CSU is up in arms. Because they want to have the upper hand. It's not going to happen, but that's what they want. If their AD keeps going down this path, he's going to lose his biggest moneymaker of the year.

Problem is our last AD didn't take the upper hand that was his.

Good point. I can't imagine they make much money bringing in 20k a game.

Sure he did. We got games in Folsom in 2004, 2005 and, most likely, next year.

If I was CSU, I'd be begging for the game to be played in that glorious dump of a stadium Hughes if only because it takes the sting away from having to do the "Drive of Shame" from Denver or Boulder every time they lose. ;)

It must suck having to root for BYU and Utah when they play against your own school, just in the hope that one of those schools ends up running the table and may get into a BCS bowl.

The part about CSU fans that drives me crazy is how if you use facts on them they say oh your living in the past. Then they counters with the last 10 years as an argument. But the capper is when all else fails they use other teams performances versus CU to make them feel better. The point is
this a CU versus CSU battle or cu and whatever team CSU needs to use to justify there case?

Woelk made a decent point that CU could play anybody at Invesco.

It's a good thing the CSU game moved to Sunday, otherwise the network exposure wouldn't be as attractive. If this were a Saturday game, the TV revenue would have been regional at best.

Hypothetical question: For the sake of argument, let's assume CSU played CU in Boulder this year. Would there be any benefit of moving the WV or UT game to Invesco?

I think the answer depends on what deal is cut with the owners of Invesco, how many CU fans can't get tickets into Folsom and/or whether UT/WV's fans would travel better to Denver than Boulder. Network money would be the same either way.

At the end of the day, college games belong on campus. The $$$ arguement makes sense, but I'm cheering a football team, not a balance sheet.

I'm only for the game in Denver if it causes a broader (more national) buzz and I don't think that will happen again unless/until both programs are competing in their conference. If the Rams get back to competing in the MWC (I know it is not on par with the B12) and are a decent team, and the Buffs return to competiveness in the B12 then there will be more national attention and the game being in Denver draws some attention.

Until then, play it Boulder when it is CU's home game and Denver when it is CSU's or don't play it all.

One thing I don't understand is why Denver wants this game so badly. It can't produce more revenue than a Broncos pre-season game, or a couple of Nuggets, Avs or Rockies games.

It seems the longer this series goes on, the more annoying it gets. I'm ready for an Air Force matchup. Home and Home, at the two best college football stadiums in the state....

I take issue with one part of the article...
The number at Folsom certainly has to be considered "fluid" as well. Unfortunately, we rarely fill the stadium to that potential net value, especially once ski season starts (or god forbid we lose a game).

Couldn't agree more, I really hate this recent trend of games being played at NFL stadiums. And of 4 newer ones I can think of for this season (CU/FSU, Bama/Clemson, VT-ECU, KU-Mizzou), I bet only 2 of those sell out, KU-Mizzou and Bama/Clemson. They're probably gonna keep coming too, because I recently read where ISU and KSU will play a 2-game series at Arrowdickhead. :sad1:

I like Invesco, but its an NFL stadium and college games belong on campus. Lets get another top team on the schedule and kiss the rams goodbye.

i recall last year a number of allbuffers were up in arms when it was suggested that csu is replaceable.

welcome to the forward thinking brigade, people.

We may be stuck with this game for a while. It might be hard to entice another D1 program for the amount of $ being paid to cswho. You certainly aren't get anything more than a laugh out of u$c, sorta lame, or an $ec team for such a small payout.

If the AD can't replace the lammies, then I would like to see him get rid of Invesco and schedule so it's the 2nd or 3rd ooc game. Never liked opening the season with a pseudo-rivalry game.

i could be mistaken, but even if they are purchased from the man on the moon, the money will eventually go to csu.

what stands to be gained is a very disproportionate field despite the coffers.

I take a counter point of view....

I think Neill has missed the ball completely. The guy understands little about the business end of football.

First, the CU-CSU game at Invesco gave CU 7 games in their season ticket package. What is being overlooked here is that CU is looking at only 6 games in the season ticket package next year - that is a major revenue hit for CU. Bohn messed up by taking a home and home deal with Miami (Ohio). Neill is trying to cover Bohn's butt.

Second, Neill indicates that CU could bring another team into Invesco and make a big splash. I hate to break it to Neill but CSU sells ~ 24,000 + tickets to the game which helps make it worthwhile to have at Invesco. What other opponent would sell 20,000 tickets for an away game - maybe Nebraska. Last year CU did not sell out Florida State, OU or Missouri at Folsom so I doubt that bringing in UCLA is going to do much at Invesco since CU only sold 48,500 tickets last time they were at Folsom.

I really don't care if CU plays CSU or where they play them but until CU can get to the point of being able to bring in teams like Eastern Washington and sells out the stadium - then CU needs this game. We are trying to compete with other BCS teams that are playing 8 home games a year and making several million on each game.

CU needs to have 7 home games a year minimum and next year we will not. Bohn and assistant AD Woelk need to explain that.
