Additionally, the presidents adopted new standards for two-year transfer student-athletes. Data show that transfers from two-year colleges often struggle academically after arriving at a four-year institution.

The Board approved an increase in the transferrable grade-point average from 2.0 to 2.5 and limited the number of physical education activity courses to two. Also, two-year college transfers who didn’t qualify academically out of high school will be required to complete a core curriculum that includes English, math and science courses.

    *********************************

This benefits CU in several ways.

First, the pool from which our competition recruits will become less deep. We won't be at such a disadvantage.

Second, it is likely that JUCO athletes will adjust their coursework to be more in line with the new standards.

    Good day for the Buffs.

What will KSU do? Apparantly, they didn't consult Grandpa Snyder

I don't know that it's going to help us so much as it's going to hurt other schools like KSU. We're still in the same situation we were in before this rule change, IMO.

A lot of Juco kids aim for the transfer standards of the "typical" school. This means that they don't have to have the GPA, can count PE classes and other non-core classes.

With this new reg a lot more kids in JCs will aim higher from the start meaning a lot more of them will be closer to the standards that CU admissions has set and that many of them don't come close to reaching. Should mean more JC kids qualified for admission to CU in the long run.

Does anyone know the extent to which JUCO's play a roll on PAC-12 rosters? It would seem to me that other than the ASU's of the world, PAC-12 schools would have similar issues with JUCO's concerning enrollment requirements. Who does this hurt in the PAC-12?

Sounds good! How do these JUCO's get into Cal and not CU?

You work too much. What I've read here before is that Cal gives exceptions to students that can enhance the university somehow and those can be given to football players.
