On April 12, the Virginia men's tennis team won its 100th consecutive ACC tennis match. Yes. You've read me correctly. They have won 100 straight matches in the ACC. They have not lost in the ACC in 6 years. Also, the ACC is no slouch in tennis. Miami, Florida State, Duke, Clemson, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest have all had successful teams. However, the NCAA Title has proved elusive. Virginia has had undefeated seasons ruined by Southern Cal in the NCAA Final each of the past two seasons. And the two seasons before that, Southern Cal defeated Virginia in the semifinals. (Southern Cal has won the last 4 National Titles).

This year as we move deep into the season, Virginia is ranked #1. Southern Cal is #4. Is this the year they finally get over the hump? At this point, you have to wonder if the USC thing isn't psychological.

100 straight conference matches won. Keep in mind, this is at Virginia. While weather is decent, it's not exactly tropical. Would love to see CU get men's tennis going again, and let's hope our women's program can improve with the Pac-12 move. College tennis is actually a fantastic sport. Lots of excitement for big matches. Things can get very tense. I could see it really catching on at CU.

Women's lacrosse (and hopefully men's) will be a fantastic addition as well. Spring days with lacrosse are fantastic. It sucks to sit here during spring with limited athletic action for the Buffs, while reading the papers about Virginia's #1 ranked Tennis team (their women's program is also highly successful), their baseball team an astonishing 31-3 pushing for #1 and becoming a regular at the CWS, and both lacrosse teams always winning/competing for national titles.

Let's really get behind the CU women's lacrosse program, along with furthering support for women's tennis. I think fans will be mighty surprised about the success CU can achieve. Let DU's lacrosse success be a lesson to all of us. I certainly know of some great high schools schools here in Virginia that would load CU women's lax up on talent. Hope a men's program comes soon as well. Ready for our athletics program to grow into the spring realm....

It's definitely an impressive streak. Ohio State also has a great streak going where I think that they haven't lost at home in 10 years. I would probably wait until after this year to say if the USC thing is psychological. The problem the last 4 years was that USC was the better team and it probably didn't help knowing that before the match starts, you are already down 1-0 because you're probably not beating Steve Johnson.
