If they did they would have to pull the plug on the entire athletic department because football revenues subsidize every other sport (even BB doesn't break even right now.) It would also involve some huge dollars to pay for the capital improvement projects on the stadium, the CEC, the new BB/volleyball complex, etc. which are funded with the idea of paying off significant amounts with future football revenues.
They also would have to recognize that a huge amount of university donations are tied to football supporters. The question would have to be asked about how many of the financial supporters would withhold their support without football in Boulder.
What I would wonder is if this administration might secretly hope for the break-up of the Big XII or Big XII north giving them an excuse to move to a lower budget conference (MWC.) I think that any attempt to downgrade the program would be political suicide. At the same time this current administration has already shown that they don't value the football program.
:gobuffs: Let's just win this season and end the speculation.
You really don't think that's far fetched? :wow:
It will only be just the beginning. As we continue to struggle with funding from the state, the school will eventually shut down. RIP CU.
that sounds a little dramatic. Tuition will go up, and programs may be cut or scaled back, but CU isn't going anywhere. Not any time soon. And football still makes money and with TV etc. has the potential to make even more, so it's the least likely of all sports to be cut. Hang in there, guys, CU will rise again.
Just to clarify, I was agreeing with AJ and hoping we win next year. I don't think football will ever go away here though no matter how crappy things get. It would destroy the entire athletics program, render our stadium and the events center basically useless, and suck really really bad in general.
This would be intramurals, brotha'!
then we can retain hawk!!! wooooooooo
someone forgot to take his sarcasm piiiiills.
Dangit Alferd, first I have to tell Nik when folks are joking and now you too? We really do need that sarcasm font. Let's see if this helps...
After the school shuts down, the loss of revenue generated by out-of-state-students and their rich visiting parents will send all of Colorado's economy into a downward spiral. Eventually, the financial drain on the entire nation will necessitate that the State of Colorado will become unincorporated from the union and ultimately become annexed by nebraska.
I also posted thinking this was serious. I've got terrible radar for this type of thing and am pretty gullible about thinking people are serious when they're ****ing with me. It's pretty hopeless, actually.
A sarcasm font would be ftmfw. :smile2:
We'll get to work on installing one of those right away. Just for you and Buffnik...
Alferd is the other one. I get them confused sometimes too....
So I guess the new thing all the cool kids are doing where "and" means the same as a comma hasn't made it to NATO yet??? :smile2:
The sad thing is that I can guarantee you that this exact idea has been mentioned by individuals who have some influence over the program over the years. As much as it would hurt the university to do so there are individuals both inside and outside of the university who mistakenly believe that the money that people put into the athletic program would magically migrate into their little spheres of reality. There are others who think that it is "below" the level of an "academic" institution like CU to put that much attention and effort into something as "thuggish, brutal, and non-intellectual" as big time sports.
Many of these people are the same ones who could never get a date with someone with naturally straight teeth in high school and resent the fact that nobody stood and applauded the first time they got published in some journal that only 250 other geeks in the world actually read.
There are others outside of CU who think that CU is an "elitist" institution that draws money away from programs for their "poor" and "underpriveledged" constituents and that again if the athletic program were shut down that they would have a means of forcing more money and attention to their pet programs.
Will they change the name of the state, or the buffs, or both?
I am going to sell all my CU gear on ebay while it's still worth something.
Yes. I think I read somewhere the world is scheduled to come to an end sometime in 2012.
C'mon. It's not the end of the world.
The only thing that saves us now is if the Buffs win the national championship in 2010,
exactly 20 years to the date of our last (and only - so far) NC.
Obama will finally announce that he is not an American citizen and that his father actually assasinated Kennedy because he had developed a carbirator that would get 200 mpg and Kennedy and his cohorts shot it down.
Long Live Nikolai Tesla!!!!!
Gotta get a new coach first.
I like your sense of humor. Cody could play too.
Deep down, I believe that any team is capable of rising above a mediocre coach.
It's funny you mention that...every time I buy a lotto ticket, deep down I know I'm gonna win $65 million.
go leawood!!! repping the 66209!!!
One thing for sure: If you don't play the game, you have zero chance of pulling the upset. Lotto or football.
Separate names with a comma.
