One current Buff and one Buff-to-be were on the pitch for for Canada tonight in their victory over Trinidad & Tobago in a match to qualify for the U-20 World Cup played in Honduras. And guess who was the player of the match? The Buff's Sarah Kinzner! She scored the first goal of the match. Look below for the link to the report and highlights.

    http://www.canadasoccer.com/canada-opens-papua-new-guinea-journey-with-three-points-p158928

Late in the match Camilla Shymka got onto the pitch making her U-20 debut for Canada. She verbally committed to the Buffs for next season.

Canada plays again on Saturday in the tourney v Jamaica.

Also posted it in the transfer info thread (http://www.allbuffs.com/threads/oly...ng-and-outgoing-and-other-roster-news.105930/), but since this thread seems like a good place to accumulate soccer specific off-season news, thought I'd also post here that, per http://www.wyosports.net/university...5-8597-23fb02bea5e8.html#.VmdAAd8HOsk.twitter , Buff forward Brittney Stark (from nearby Broomfield) is transferring to the U. of Wyoming to play her junior and senior seasons.

Best wishes to her in Laramie.

Just wanted to mention that it looks like the off-season training/ practice period has begun today. Put in the good work players and coaches!

Also, looks like they had their awards dinner yesterday evening.

As with volleyball, soccer also just had their post-season banquet and awards ceremon; article at http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=210668188 .

Thanks to the young women and coaches for all the work they put in. It was fun watching them play this past season (although with a few less wins than I'm sure they hoped for) . Hope they're grinding away and getting ready for next year!

Can you put captions with names on your photos? Would help immensely! ( Did note the differing individual styles----fascinating!)

Don't know the young women by site myself, but per the caption below the picture in the cubuffs.com article-
"(L-R) Kenzie Tillitt, Madi Krauser, Kate Scheele, Danica Evans, Sarah Kinzner"

A couple off-season notes re individual players.

    1) Looks like future (next (2016) season) Buff midfielder Taylor Kornieck is playing a major role on the U.S. national Under 18 (U18) team she's a part of that is currently playing in a tournament in Spain.

    2) And, congrats are in order for 2015 (2014 season) grad Buff grad and defender Bianca Jones, who has earned a professional contract at a higher (2nd division) level team and will continue to be playing in Sweden. (Link to cubuffs article in the tweet.)

"captained the U18 #USWNT and played 90 minutes in their draw with Denmark today"
WOW! Captained the squad?! That's quite an achievement! Can't wait to see her on the pitch in Boulder this August.

Based on a soccer team instagram, sounds like Buff sophomore (next season) midfielder Brooklyn Varnadore may have suffered an injury. Best wishes to her on a full, timely and not too annoying or painful recovery.

Looks like pre-season camp rosters are being announced by the women's pro league (NWSL) teams, and at least 3 (now former) Buffs are involved, goaltender Kate Scheele in Houston, and defender Madison Krauser and midfielder Olivia Poppalardo, both in Chicago.

    Best of wishes to them!

Great sounding hire by the Buffs, as Nikki Marshall, arguably their top player of all-time, and definitely the all-time leading scorer, is coming back as a volunteer assistant coach. Assume she should be a great help, knowing every position except maybe goalie, as after starring as a forward (most of the time) with the Buffs, her national and pro team experience was mainly as a defender.

    Welcome back to Ms. Marshall!

Great to see that, similar to what they did for volleyball, Buffzone/ the Daily Camera has an off-season soccer article (also written by Pat Rooney) leading up to the Buffs' 1st spring scrimmages this weekend- http://www.buffzone.com/soccer/ci_29709316/cu-soccer-buffs-looking-erase-2015-disappointment

A few of my notes (with quotes from the article)-
    1) Good to hear chemistry seems better- ""I feel like what we had to get better at was just all us being on the same page," defender Joss Orejel said. "All of us were on different pages last year. It shows on the field. I feel this group of girls is closer and we know what we have to get done to make a comeback from last year.""

    2) On losing so many starters (between graduation and transfer)- "On paper, Sanchez is tasked with replacing six starters. However most of those voids have already been filled. Sophomore goalie Scout Watson should slide seamlessly into the starting role vacated by Kate Scheele, and the return of senior defender Kahlia Hogg, who missed all but six games last year due to injury, should bolster a back line that was inconsistent in 2015."
(Kind of interesting this makes it sound Ms. Watson is the presumed starter at goalie, as I was/ am expecting a fun and spirited competition for the starting spot between her and red-shirt freshman (?***) Jalen Tompkins, who was one of the top ranked goalies in the country in her class coming out of high school. Overall, got to love having 2 quality young players, one a RS sophomore and one a RS freshman***, at that critical position, with another well thought of recruit coming in in 2017. ***Note- I'm assuming Ms. Tompkins is a red-shirt since she didn't play at all last season, but the current roster lists her as a sophomore. Don't know what the rules are for when/ how a year has to be declared for a player to have a red-shirt year in the various sports? Of course, if her academic plans are to graduate and leave after 4 years, the red-shirt talk is all "academic" anyways.)

    3) "Sanchez spearheaded a rules change that will be in effect for spring games within the state, with goalies only allowed to hand-pass the ball to their teammates. The initiative is part of a concussion study and eliminates players heading balls that had been booted up to 70 yards in the air."
(Be interesting to hear if/ how this (spring only) experimental change substantively changes the play during this spring's scrimmages, and if it would ever become a change they'd think of officially making for real matches. There was also a more detail article about this experimental spring rule change at http://www.cubuffs.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&SPID=259&SPSID=3937&DB_OEM_ID=600 .)

Looks like Buffs just played South Dakota State in Lincoln, with match just over and a 1-1 result.

Buffs Wrap Up Spring Season With 4-0-2 Record

BOULDER – Colorado’s soccer team wrapped up its spring season this past weekend with two matches in Nebraska.

The Buffaloes finished the spring with a 4-0-2 record, defeating Air Force, Denver, Colorado College and Nebraska, and tying Northern Colorado and South Dakota State. In all, CU outscored its opponents 9-4.

“Overall we feel this was a very productive spring,” head coach Danny Sanchez said. “Our 15 players played a lot of minutes and really competed. We are pleased with the individual development of each player and are very excited for preseason to start in August.”

Erin Greening led the team with three goals, followed by two each from Danica Evans, and Stephanie Zuniga. Sarah Kinzner and Joss Orejel each scored as well and Evans also had two assists.

    ...

The first four matches of the spring were played under modified rules to cut back on headers, with the goal of lowering the number of head injuries.

“I want to publically thank Air Force, Colorado College, Denver and Northern Colorado for participating in the modified heading rules for our matches,” Sanchez said. “We got some great feedback from all the players and coaches involved. As I have spoken with more coaches around the country, I think there is some real interest in finding out what kind of feedback we received. Also, they have interest in potentially incorporating something similar in their spring seasons.”

Looks like soccer has selected their new strength and conditioning coach. Congrats to Karim Derqaoui!
(For those not keeping track, the prior S&C coach moved over to basketball.)

It sounds like Mr. Derqaoui has already been on campus working on a 2nd Masters Degree, so should be already settled in personally. Impressive to see he already has had some experience with professional squads (in Dallas and Bulgaria).

    Direct link to article- http://www.cubuffs.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=211016801

(Interests me in a way to see that soccer is the sole sport announcing this, as he evidently will also be responsible for track and field, which with 80-85 athletes on the roster easily has the 2nd biggest roster at CU (behind of course football). Although, maybe with strength and conditioning being by far the most important thing in T&F, the athletes, many of whom are integrative physiology majors themselves, are used to self-policing their conditioning, as well of course having very experienced coaches who know how to condition their athletes as the core part of THEIR job.)

Looks like the new Buffs are in Boulder. Best of wishes to them during the training period, and I assume 1st college classes (during the last summer session) for at least some of them!

(Believe there are actually 9 new Buffs, so this isn't even all of them. 3 transfers aren't included in the above tweet pic.)

In what is getting almost repetitious, but in a GREAT way, congrats are once again in order for just arrived freshman Buff Taylor Kornieck. Per the below, she's been named to yet another U.S. Under 18 (U-18) squad, this time being 1 of 20 young women going to a U.S. National Team training camp in England from July 5th-18th (which will include a couple matches against England's national U-18 team)!

    A few things-
Congrats are once again in order for incoming Frosh Taylor Kornieck , this time for being named a high school All-American!

And, looks like the vast majority of the team is in Boulder and, with their season starting (8/19 at Air Force) a week and a half or two before the other fall sports, assume their training camp should be starting any day now.

And, they also instagrammed yesterday another presentation of their schedule as a reminder the beginning is (getting) near.

Taylor started both of the US matches v England. The US lost the first one and drew the second time. Both matches were played at the English national team's training ground. I assume that the US team also trained at the venue. Looking at the lineups for the US there was a lot of substituting which indicates the coach staff was giving everyone a shot at playing time. They articles also states the goal is for this current squad to stick together and qualify for the U-20 2018 World Cup to be held in France.

    http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...d-2-2-to-finish-training-in-burton-upon-trent

As for when practice begins, if I remember correctly soccer only starts doing so about two to two and a half weeks before the first match.

Link to season tickets ($25 general admission and $100 for Prentup Gold)-

(As Buffnik noted in another thread (https://www.allbuffs.com/threads/season-tix-womens-sports-pass.118404/), there's also a $135 "Women's Sports Pass" option for GA tickets to women's volleyball, soccer AND basketball available.)
    _______________________________________________________

Also, looks like the young women had a good time on picture day. (Also, always amazed at the few players I've seen on different pro and college teams who, like Danica Evans in the below tweet, can execute the 360 in-bounds pass (or whatever it's called in soccer). Hopefully it can help lead to some great scoring chances (and GOAL!!!!!!!!!! or 2) as it did last year.)

    ________________________________________________________

And then, of course, there's ALWAYS paperwork in EVERYTHING EVERYONE does.

It's called a "flip-throw." Boy can Danica execute them effectively. Perhaps Taylor can use her size and strength to get her head on a number of them in the box.
