Official 2016 Coaching Carousel

Wilcox seems like a good hire for cal.
He will be an interesting case study. Folks here have spoken highly of him. I seem to recall his name from the MacIntyre search but the reservation was he was still a bit immature as a coach to head a program. It will be interesting to see how cal benifts long term with the hire. What is the balance between luck, timing and depth of the coaching pool each year.

Cal tried to fire Dykes for cause and that was one of the main factors why it took so long, 5.88m buyout

http://www.californiagoldenblogs.co...-for-cause-failed-5-88-million-buyout-looming

The case centered around multiple factors, including...
  • Dykes interviewing with multiple programs, including Baylor this week.
  • Dykes not letting defensive coordinator Art Kaufman go in a timely manner (Kaufman was still on Cal staff until several weeks after the season ended). The report is that Cal Athletics felt Dykes was dragging his feet.
  • Dykes not getting around to finding a defensive coordinator until very late in the process. Williams apparently fired him when Dykes went to consult him for a list.
None of those things are reasons to fire for cause. They're just things that annoy the boss. You have to get caught doing lines off a hookers ass to get fired for cause.
Dykes was never a fit at CAL....example of a bad hire.

So Cal screwed up hiring Dykes, Dykes wanted out but wanted his money to.

Dykes forces them to fire him but doesn't give reason to give up the money. Either he is a smart individual or he is smart enough to have a lawyer and agent who gave him a great plan.

Either way Cal is paying a lot of money for a guy not to be coaching a program that isn't selling tickets and collecting donations they thought it would when they hired him. I wonder if Cal now tries to imitate what CU did and go cheap on the next coach and the program.

They are not a good program when they are at their best. What depths could they go at their worst. Maybe worse than Hawkins/Embree?

Sounds like Nebraska is also in the Tosh for DC sweepstakes.

One of our future opponents having him as full-time DC would be awesome ^_^

I'll always favor a Texan over a Californian(s) in football/money. Hope Dykes gets every penny he can from Cal.

Cal's ****ed. They hire a DC who was a failure in the Pac-12 as HC and lose their OC who actually did a really good job last year and was loved by the players and recruits. Also lost Peeler, who recruited guys like 5* Demetris Robertson.

SIAP. Looks like Western Michigan is hiring Tim Lester as HC. Alum who was the Purdue QB Coach this season.

SIAP, ASU offensive line coach accepts same job at TCU, his alma mater.

Same article states that Doug Meachem left TCU as CO-OC to take OC job at KU.

Rob Likens (KU OC) takes job at ASU as WR coach (a Baer like move).

And ASU expected to replace OL position with Josh Henson, a former Missouri offensive coordinator who was the offensive analyst at his alma mater, Oklahoma State, in 2016.
