Official 2022 Fall Camp Thread

Gotta love CU football where the only thing fans are interested in is what the coach can be fired for before the season and where the general consensus seems to be that he gets another two years no matter what happens on the field. And yet those people might still have more interest in how the team does this season than anyone with any sort of say about Dorrell’s future. Fml.

I’m calling my shot (after a few beers). We make a bowl game this year and surprise people by being competitive in all but two games.

I’m going on the “aggregation of marginal gains” theory. I think we had a number of unexpected problems last year, starting with OL coaching and lingering injuries with no depth. We had a number of starters who should not have been starting, but for no depth. Add to that, a starting RS freshman QB, with one-half game experience, operating a crappy offensive scheme behind a struggling OL. Sure we lost two good receivers, but we have really good depth there and some quality (that has to step up). We could have a good, thoughtful offensive scheme that D’s don’t know the plays before we run them, with a QB who can see routes open with a real gun (all-in on JT), that backs the D off the line a bit, opening a creatively blocked running game.

The strength of our D is up front: a solid front 7–with depth. How long since we said that?

IF the sophomores in the back can grow up quck, we have talent there. I never saw Perry as a quality S. We will have real speed at all positions in the back (the lone starter back is the slowest as far as i can tell). We just need to quickly gain experience and communicate. That CAN be done. Sure. Its a potential problem, but young speed, with a short memory, could surprise.

We should be very solid on special teams, all around.

Every year teams people think are going to be great lay an egg, and there will be a couple of teams on our schedule which will have one of those years.

I have the Kool-Aide in my veins. I call 7 wins.

Another round!!!

That’s my point, if you want to fire him for poor performance, do it and own that decision, don’t hide behind that cameraman incident as some justification for a firing a guy you really want to fire for other reasons.
Perfect. “Listen Kardboard, you’re a nice guy but you can’t win football games. Gotta let you go.”

Wasn't he the one who was singled out as having the highest NFL draft grade at the most recent pro day? Ugh.
I can't imagine that was true.

Jackson is in the mix to play a ton, but Sami and Rodman are likely the starting DTs. Jordan was 4th unless one of the young guys recently passed him.

The DL with the most draft potential is probably Lang at DE.

maybe I'm misremembering.

Can you please summarise? That is way too much text for me to read.

Gradual improvement likely exists on many fronts. 7 wins.
Correct, but marginal does nor necessarily imply gradual.

Re time trialing on a bike… tiny improvements in aerodynamics, training, and strategy in various places can add together quickly for a significant aggregate improvement.

👍🏻

(Of course, this model suggests that, in large part, we are simply removing barriers to achieving maximum personal/team performance. Problem with that concept is… each of us are limited to our personal V02 max, which can only be moderately increased. Many may equate V02 max with Recruiting Ratings.)

Shoot. Sorry. Too many words again.

Sigh.
I suppose I could have started a new thread, but this will be fine here: I got an email from the CU AD today (note todays date) telling me that they have shipped my parking pass and that if I don’t receive it by August 22, to notify them (again, please note todays date, then compare to the previously mentioned deadline that CU told me I should receive said parking pass). ****ing amateur hour.

Follow up. I sent a ridiculously snarky email to the ticket office yesterday. Lo and behold, the parking pass was Fed Exed to my house today. Props for that, I guess.

Just watched the new OL coach interview. I’m amped up. I hear more than marginal gains….

Don’t make me go to 8 wins…. I’ll do it.. Dang it… I’ll do it.

Gooooo Buffs!!!
I hadn’t heard the story that last year’s OL were looking for Matt McChesney during games, because they weren’t getting any help from their OL “coach” (re misplaced lobster fisherman). Heard that on Adam’s podcast. Gads.
Having a real coach could be a quantum leap of improvement.

Seems like every CU football thread eventually gets to the point of discussing what it would take for KD to be fired.

Keeping him will cost us some significant revenue, this site has some of the most dedicated Buff fans and the enthusiasm level here is way down including people not renewing season tickets.

Keep in mind though who our administration is and how little they care about the success of this program. They are much more concerned about the idea of answering why they are paying an almost $8 million dollar buyout for a football coach.

The next fear that I have with the situation, and yes things can get worse, is that they decide that with the buyout and the lower revenues that we can't afford to compete for an A list candidate.

The result repeating the error with the JE hiring they put ridiculous restraints on how much money can be spent for a coach resulting in hiring somebody who is entirely unqualified to be a P5 head coach much less prepared to take over a program that needs a complete rebuild.

To ease the PR burden they could very well go back to the well of hiring a "CU Guy" former player or assistant coach who is willing to come in for cheap.

Couldn't they just hire Dave Logan?
