Official Buffs Dance Resume Thread

69-68 Washington, 21 seconds. Pac refs strike again by fouling out Malik Dime on a horrendous call with 1:36

What a wild night in the Pac-12. I think we had better get used to this. Gonna be a crazy conference this year.

UW takes down UCLA in 2OT.

Washington beats UCLA in 2OT, 96-93

Huskies now 9-4 (1-0), Bruins fall to 9-5 (0-1).

So Stanford beats Utah and Washington beats UCLA. Stanford and Washington were generally picked around 10th and 11th. It's nice that UCLA and Utah have early surprise losses as they are main competition for a top 4 spot. On the other hand, Stanford and Washington have shown that the margin of error between finishing 4th or 10th in this year's Pac is extremely tiny.

Saturday:

Most importantly, I hope the Buffs are regrouping and realize the importance of the upcoming Stanford game. That 11-1 start will become a distant memory if they lose in Palo Alto. This team is better than what they showed at Cal.

Penn State (9-5) @ Michigan (11-3): Nittany Lions blew a late 10 point lead at Maryland their last time out. That would have been a monster win for that program. My guess is Penn State is hungover from such a tough loss. There's also the matter of Penn State being a not so good team in a good conference. PSU will manage some wins at home, hard to see much on the road outside of the cellar dwellers. Wolverines favored by 12.

Air Force (9-4) vs San Jose State (5-8): Start of MWC play for AFA. This should absolutely be a win. SJSU is the worst in the MWC. Hopefully AFA can manage a few more wins than expected in a not so great MWC. Falcons are favored by 9.5

Auburn (6-5) vs Tennessee (7-5): Huge game for Auburn. The Tigers only managed to go 1-2 on their Hawaii trip. After a win over New Mexico, they fell to a red hot Harvard side and then faced a tough Hawaii side on the road (you may recall CU falling victim to that). Those losses are both understandable, but the fact of the matter is Auburn is now a mediocre 6-5 heading into SEC play. This home game against a 7-5 Vols side has got to be a W. Auburn is favored by 1.5

Northern Colorado (4-9) vs Idaho (9-5): Surprised Idaho is only favored by 2.5 as they appear to be perhaps the best side in the Big Sky. UNCo opened conference play with a nice win over Eastern Washington.

Portland (8-8) @ Santa Clara (4-11): Portland continues to be inconsistent. They should be better than 8-8, but they're off to a decent 2-1 start to WCC play. Santa Clara is one of the WCC cellar dwellers. This is absolutely a game that Portland should win. This game will sum up the way their season will go. A win, and they're sitting 3-1 in the WCC and in shape for a good seed in the conference tournament. A loss and they're under .500 overall and visiting Gonzaga next. Have to beat a 4-11 team.

Nicholls State (4-9) vs Lamar (8-4): Start of conference play for Nicholls (Southland Conference). Can't profess to know anything much about Lamar, but it looks like they're one of the favorites to get the NCAA Tournament bid from that conference. I think Nicholls is basically a lost cause in the RPI department, but a win here can't hurt.

BYU (9-5) @ Pacific (3-9): BYU started off WCC play with a loss @ 12-1 St. Mary's. St. Mary's may be the best team in the WCC this year, so no shame there. However, BYU is going to need to find a marquee win for itself if they don't plan on winning the WCC tournament. In the WCC, that means beat Gonzaga or St. Mary's. BYU also can't afford bad losses. A loss to Pacific would be a disaster. A bad loss as a power conference team is one thing, as you've got numerous opportunities to offset it with quality wins. A bad loss for a team like BYU in the WCC is disastrous as you have very limited opportunities for quality wins. BYU favored by 9.5

Colorado State (8-5) @ Boise State (9-4): Start of MWC play for CSU. It will be interesting to see how they hold up. You can argue that CSU is a complete disaster with Eustachy a lunatic and Clavell out for the season. However, the MWC also sucks. Everyone is mediocre or bad, so why can't CSU win their share? This game at Boise State is tough. It's about as tough of a game as you'll find in this MWC with New Mexico and SDSU being down. Broncos favored by 9.5

#11 Iowa State (11-1) @ #3 Oklahoma (11-0): Huge game. This should be a fun one. ISU recovered from the loss to Northern Iowa by going to Cincinnati and getting the W. This is a different can of worms altogether, though. The Sooners have a strong case for being the most impressive team in the country thus far. They dismantled a very good Villanova side by 23 and have survived numerous trap games. This one has big implications for the Big XII and NCAA Tournament seeding. Sooners favored by 8.

#17 SMU (12-0) vs South Florida (3-11): This one is going to get ugly. SMU will not be dropping many games in conference play. It's a killer for them to be missing the NCAA Tournament with such a team. Mustangs favored by 25.5

Portland drops a game at horrible Santa Clara. **** Portland

Northern Colorado loses to Idaho (expected)

Nicholls State is going to lose to Lamar (expected)

Sunday:

Buffs (11-3) @ Stanford (8-4): Might not be a "must win", but it's close. This is arguably the most winnable road game aside from Wazzu. CU really needs this -- we don't want to be 0-2 with Utah coming up. Live RPI gives CU a 48% chance of winning. Stanford is favored by 1.5

#8 Arizona (12-1) @ Arizona State (10-3): Hurley has got to be dreaming of starting off his Pac12 career in the best way possible. Arizona is favored by just 3.

USC (12-2) @ Washington (9-4): It might have been only Wazzu, but USC looked really impressive going on the road and demolishing the Cougs. Washington has got to be feeling good about getting a big win over UCLA right when it appeared they were headed for another collapse. Trojans are favored by 2.

Hampton (5-6) vs Princeton (7-4) (Norfolk, VA): This would be a nice win for Hampton if they could pull it off. Princeton is going to be in the thick of it for the Ivy bid.

Omaha (9-6) vs IUPUI (5-11): Omaha is going to be a better win for us than we knew. They should win comfortably. 9.5 favorites.

Oregon (11-2) @ Oregon State (9-2): Interested to see how this one turns out. It'll give us a better idea of just how improved the Beavs are. Ducks favored by 1.

#21 Utah (11-3) @ Cal (11-3): Utes are coming off that surprise loss at Stanford and as a result, the pressure is on with a visit to Boulder next. Utes are looking at finding themselves in an early hole. Should be interesting to see Poeltl against that Cal athleticism. Cal favored by 3.5

#25 UCLA (9-5) @ Wazzu (8-5): It didn't take long for Wazzu to get exposed as the Pac12's worst. USC was up 25 in Pullman before Wazzu knew what hit them. UCLA, meanwhile, can't afford to get swept by UW and Wazzu (the most winnable road swing this year). Bruins favored by 3.5

Here's the tv schedule for today:

COLORADO at Stanford (8:00, ESPNU)

#8 Arizona at Arizona State (12:00, FS1)
USC at Washington (1:00, PACN)
Princeton at Hampton (1:00, no tv)
IUPUI at Omaha (3:30, no tv)
Oregon at Oregon State (5:00, FS1)
#21 Utah at Cal (5:30, PACN)
#25 UCLA at Washington State (7:30, PACN)

Halftime in Tempe, Arizona leads 41-35. ASU taking a home loss is probably realistically the best scenario

Washington steals the win, 87-85. USC had the lead for almost the entire game. It's not bad that USC lost as the Trojans already having 2 road wins would have made them difficult to catch

Plus we have 2 games against UW and only 1 against USC, so for RPI and opportunities I'd rather see that UW win.

Omaha goes to 10-6.

Beavs are destroying the Ducks so far. 32-16 late in the 1st half.

Oregon State looked very impressive. Held the Ducks to 57 points and won by 13.
