OL recruiting - a big problem

He's not flipping
And you know this because?

I'm not saying you are right or wrong. I have no frigging clue. But I get kind of weary of these absolute statements you make as if you are the guy's best buddy.

Because he's not from Colorado and his family is moving to Chicago after he graduates and he has family in Michigan.

Thanks for the clear explanation of your opinion. It is much more palatable that way than your penchant for putting out your opinions as facts, without any supporting information.

 Tini, I do hope you take this as constructive criticism.

Realistically, what are our chances with Hunt? His recruitment feels a lot like Cyburt last year to me, where we're consistently in the top-3, but he's always fishing for a "better" offer. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong and we'll land him (and I'm confident we can compete with Az St and BSU), but the kid seems to be begging UCLA or Stanford to offer.

How can we get 4* QBs and TEs, but having trouble landing a top notch OL? I'm starting to get a bit concerned. As far as I know, the list below is the potential 4* OL left for CU this year.

Aaron Cochran
John Lopez
Kenneth Santa Marina
Na'Ty Rodgers
Nico Falah
Reeve Koehler

There's an entire thread devoted to that very question.

I'm fine with 3* OLs as long as they've got the measurables we're looking for. It is, by far, the most difficult position for the recruiting services to project.

That said, we haven't won enough of our recruiting battles on the OL. We're not landing enough of the guys that our coaches have as "Plan A" on their recruiting board.

Why do you think that is Anny??

I agree, I will add high character to the list of requirements. I want guys that are football players first , guys that will work hard in the weightroom, learning the play book, and excel in the classroom. Bryce Givens should be a reminder to CU fans.

I agree, I am more worried about the disturbing trend of 4 star or higher OL not working out at CU.

Ryan Miller- came to CU as a 5 star recruit, was suppose to be a future 1st or 2nd round pick as a OT, finished his career drafted as a late round pick at Guard.
Bryce Givens- before he was kicked off the team, was a backup.
Paulay Asiata- academic problems.
I agree, but am actually more worried about something else that you didn't mention, which means I don't agree. Let's talk about that instead. Thanks.

If you are a top OL recruit and you look at Marshall's resume, what entices you to commit to CU?

(Serious question)

NFL background? The 2001 Colorado team?

It isn't impressive, that is for sure. Bounced from team to team, and almost none of those teams he coached on had good rushing offenses or good pass protection - Colorado 2001 excluded.

In 2009 and 2010, Cal averaged about 4.5 yards per rush. Not bad, considering the once mighty Buffs couldn't push much past 3.5 during the Pigeon years and last year. Doesn't seem too bad, and his years in the pros can't hurt.

I also heard some Cal fans were glad to be shed of him though. This guy is kind of an enigma to me.

The toughest thing is that he spent so much of his career chasing the next job.

For the board: OLs want security with coaching moreso than other positions because they don't expect to play much until about year three in their college careers. This, more than anything, has hampered Marshall's recruiting efforts.

Time to replace him with another Buff alum. Brad Bedell here we come:smile2:

Yep. Sometimes the easiest answer is the correct one and I think this is the overriding reason for the lack of success in OL recruiting. Really hard to recruit to a rebuilding program if people are unsure you are in it for the long haul. You expect assistants to jump around, but he has taken it to the extreme.

I'm sure we'll get 3 - 5 OL guys this cycle. Regardless of the stars rankings, I just want to see big athletic maulers. I've been generally pleased with the efforts at other positions but OL is just too huge for us to whiff on.

I bet that Nowland would be next and he seems to fit the style we are looking for.

Maybe we get a surprise this time around, but the safe bet is that we get one or two more 3 star kind of guys.

Marshall will need to translate that to the field or he'll be out of a job. The OL is crucial to our entire team success and thus better recruiting classes in the next 2-3 years.

According to a new Rivals article on Sorenson we are still in it an he's probably my most wanted OL we have a chance at. The staff delivered in tr secondary and DL, and I'm sure they will do the same this cycle with OL but I think Marshall's seat is heating up.

I am going to be so ****ing happy when the day comes that we don't have to hope that we have a chance with a player like Riley Sorenson. In a few years, with our offensive scheme we should be just as good of a destination for elite OL prospects as Stanford. The big boys love the cold weather, we should be the PAC12 destination for them!!

Very disappointed in the OL recruiting. For me, the only coach on this staff who seems to be really rocking it is Kennedy. The receivers from Texas look like the real deal. Plus, if Wood turns out to be anything (cue the dick jokes), we've got Kennedy to thank.

I'm hoping we get the guys we have now to be productive. If Nembot can turn into the player I think he can, we might be alright on the line for a few years.

BK is not the only staff member who is rocking it.

C'mon man. If you make a statement like that, it is only fair to expand on your point.
Sorry.

Greg Brown - Hendo, Harrington, Washington, Crawley, Wright, Henington, Jagne, Walker
Rip Scherer - Dillon, Liufau
JD Brookhart - Norgard, Ray, Parsons
Mike Tuiasosopo - Henington, Kafovalu, Rasmussen, Tupuo
Kanavis McGhee - Wilson, Irwin, Irwin, Abron, Trammel

I'd say Brown and Scherer are leading the pack.
