Pac-12 placed 10 teams in the field of 64.

All 10 advanced to the Round of 32.

    R32 matches:

    Arizona lost to BYU
    Oregon beat LSU
    ASU lost to Texas
Stanford vs Michigan State (8pm tonight)
    Washington vs Hawaii (8pm)
Oregon State vs AR-Little Rock (5:30pm)
    Utah vs Nebraska (6pm)
    USC vs North Carolina (4pm)
UCLA vs Long Beach State (8pm)
    COLORADO vs CSU (4:30pm)

10 out of the top 32.

Would need a sweep of the rest of today for the Pac-12 to make up half of the Sweet 16, but it's not out of the question. CU and Utah are the underdogs.

I hope all the Pac 12 teams keep winning. Awesome to think we took Stanford to 5 sets at home, beat Washington, UCLA,Oregon State, etc.

its really fun fun to watch NCAA volleyball.

Perhaps the new freshman (Joachim) can step in and eventually fill Taylor's shoes. Any chance of that. She was recruited heavily by other schools like UCLA.

Says a lot about the conference and the strength. I'm guessing the Pac12 has more teams remaining than any other conference.

I don't think Joachim will fill Taylor's shoes. She is a right side hitter. Honestly, she is almost a clone of Gabby. She hits opposite, can set, and is left handed. Finding one more Pin hitter to go with Alexis will be the key for next year Steph Shadley is really the only other true outside hitter. She'll have to take a big step up.

Volleyball Tournament Round of 16 tonight

Just wanted to mention for any folk who love or gained interest in women's volleyball watching the Buffs this year that, starting at 3:00 mountain time today, the NCAA Round of 16 begins. All matches but one (Washington- Nebraska) are being streamed on ESPN3, so are free as long as you have ESPN as part of your cable/ satellite subscription. The Husky-Husker match is on TV on ESPNU, so of course requires ESPNU access to watch either on TV or streaming.

Potential matches to watch- Of local interest is the match between #15 CSU and #2 seeded Texas at 3:00. A few of the matches (although there are LOTS of good teams left, so any of the heavier favorites could lose) the volleytalk forum posters seem to think are most likely to be competitive are #10 Oregon and #7 North Carolina (5:00 MT), BYU and #6 seed Florida State (5:00 MT), and #9 Illinois and #8 Florida (6:00 MT). And, if you get ESPNU, The #14 Nebraska- #3 Washington match at 7:00 MT should also be a good one. (Although the HuskIES been much more consistent this year and should handle the HuskERS, Nebraska has some very skilled players, and the two schools have played some great matches over the years in the tournament. Also, the coaches have a history (http://www.volleywood.net/volleyball-videos/update-cook-vs-mclaughlin-video/), which is always fun (when not involving a Buff coach).)

Below is the list and time of matches- Please note all times listed below are EASTERN TIME.:

    NCAA Women's Volleyball

5:00 PM EST #15 Colorado State vs. #2 Texas (Regional Semifinal #1) (NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship) ESPN3

5:00 PM EST Ohio State vs. #4 Wisconsin (Regional Semifinal #1) (NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship ESPN3

6:00 PM EST Oregon State vs. #1 Stanford (Regional Semifinal #1) (NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship) ESPN3

7:00 PM EST #12 UCLA vs. #5 Penn State (Regional Semifinal #2) (NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship) ESPN3

7:00 PM EST #10 Oregon vs. #7 North Carolina (Regional Semifinal #2) (NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship) ESPN3

7:00 PM EST BYU vs. #6 Florida State (Regional Semifinal #1) (NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship) ESPN3

8:00 PM EST #9 Illinois vs. #8 Florida (Regional Semifinal #2) (NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship) ESPN3

9:30 PM EST #14 Nebraska vs. #3 Washington (Regional Semifinal #2) (NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship) ESPNU

Are you allowed to root for CSU when they beat CU and are now facing UT?

UT up 2-0 at this point with the 3rd set just kicking off.

I definitely am rooting for the Rams (Local team/ David vs. Goliath, freakin' Texas). But, Texas just looking so big, strong and talented. At least they have a Colorado connection in one of their setters Nicole Dalton.

I've now switched over to Ohio State vs. #4 seed (and last year championship match team) Wisconsin match. Chance of an upset here- 1-1 in sets, 20-17 Ohio State in set 3.

Edit- If anyone is interested in just keeping up with scores, here's the link to the scoreboard- http://www.ncaa.com/scoreboard/volleyball-women/d1 .

Rams didn't even come close. Went down to Texas 3-0, 25-19, 25-18, 25-17.

Stanford has 1 set over Oregon State.

Appears Ohio State vs. Wisconsin is the best match at present. Nebraska vs. Washington will be on ESPNU later.

Watching the 1st two sets of CSU-Texas made we wish even more the Buffs had pulled out the match last Saturday, as they MIGHT have been able to match up a little bit better. That said, Texas looked GREAT, and it would have been a daunting task. As I like to do, wanted to point out how I love it when even a premier team like Texas shows there is a place for a shorter player or two. They're generally massively tall in the front row (6'3"-6'6"), but still have ONE outside hitter who is (per the announcers, generously) listed at 5'10".

Ohio State did take set 3, so are up 2-1. Wisconsin with a small lead in the 4th, 13-12.

CSU just looked totally out of place. The Texas players didn't even seem to break a sweat or be intimidated by the rams.

After the classless behavior last week (esp about Gabby Simpson), I'm actually happy to see them not just ousted from the tournament but to see it happen in a convincing loss.

It just goes to show that their 5 or 6 conference championships don't really equate with much, as they couldn't compete in the match. And honestly, had they played us in Boulder, the outcome would have been different.

i do hope we get to see them next season...IN BOULDER!!! But at the same time, our schedule is exciting enough with the Pac 12 teams.

    Wisconsin eeks out a win in set 4 26-24. They're going 5.

Stanford not having much problem so far with the Beavers. Up 2-0, although OSU now up 10-7 in the 3rd. Stanford Looks to probably be the 1st Pac team to the elite 8. I'd say probably only they and Washington are favored to win today for the Pac, with Oregon's match close to a toss-up, and UCLA a pretty heavy underdog against a somewhat young but very talented (and current dynasty team of the sport- 5 titles in last 7 years) Penn State.

Edit- did want to say I'll be rooting a little bit for the Ducks, as former Buff Chelsey Keoho, who was fun to watch a couple years ago when she was the freshman libero, transferred to Oregon and is the defensive specialist for them.

I do think that what Coach Kritza says about our team makes sense. Playing against top teams night in and night out makes us ready to play anyone. I think the buffs would have been able to match up better.

We had a really exciting season! Still so proud of what this team accomplished. I'm already ready for the next one.

i am cheering on Stanford to go all the way. Would be nice to see a few other pac teams in the elite 8. Any chance we see an all pac 12 final 4? I haven't checked out the bracket enough to know.

Per the bracket (http://www.cstv.com/gametracker/brackets/2014/ncaa_bracket_DI_volleyball_women.html), the top seeded Pac 12 teams (#1 Stanford and #3 Washington) are in separate brackets, so an all Pac 12 final is definitely possible. And, looking at it closer, it is possible (although unlikely) for an all Pac 12 final 4, as Stanford, Washington, UCLA and Oregon are all in separate brackets.

Looks like Stanford-OSU is anyone's set in the 3rd- although its 20-18 Stanford now. Oregon up 16-15 over North Carolina in the 1st.

Wisconsin comes back and survives Ohio State- 15-12 in the 5th.

Oregon State gets set 3- they're going 4. (OSU did play Stanford tough in its two conferences matches this year, so not a huge surprise.)

Oregon still neck and neck with No. Carolina in the 1st. Edit- UNC gets set 1 25-23. Come on Ducks!

Going to be fun watching the UCLA- Penn State match when that starts (assume in ~30 minutes now that the Wisconsin match is over.) Going to be fun seeing if having probably the most terminal hitter in the country (Karsta Lowe) is near enough for UCLA, or will Penn State's awesome overall talent be WAY too much for the Bruins. For serving aficionado's, Penn State's senior setter and National Player of the Year candidate Mischa (sp.???) Hancock has one of if not THE best serves in the country. Bruins fans will have to hope they avoid giving up too many service runs when she's serving. (At least they've already faced S. Bricio at USC twice, as she's the other one usually brought up in the best server in the land argument.)

Note- Like I mentioned re Nicole Dalton and Texas, Penn State also has a state of Colorado connection. Their freshman middle blocker (who was the nation's #1 ranked recruit last year) Haleigh Washington was Cierra and Gabby Simpson's teammate at Doherty High School. Ms. Washington was hurt for ~ the first third of the season, but has started putting up monster stats (believe she's hitting close over .500 the later half of the Big 10 season).

Oregon was in big trouble in set 2, but have got it within 1 now at 17-18.

Edit- but now they're down 20-17. Big danger of going down 2-0.

By the way, unseeded BYU taking it to "soft" #6 seed Florida State. Up 1-0 in sets, up 24-18 in set 2.

    Oregon does lose set 2 25-22 .

Stanford gets the win in 4 sets. (Could be weird (esp. for the elite players on a team that have Olympic dreams/ aspirations) in a way that National Team Coach (and volleyball legend) Karch Kiraly is an announcer on the Stanford match. I wonder if the players ever ask friends after a match- "what did he say about me? Does it sound like he's impressed with me?")

UCLA- Penn State has started. 13 all. Forgot to mention above when talking about Penn State's Haleigh Washington, UCLA also has a Colorado connection, as one of their starting middles (Claire Felix) is from Lewis-Palmer HS in the Springs.

Good play by the Bruins in the 1st, but lose a close one 28-26. Ho hum 1st set for K. Lowe- "only" 10 kills. H. Washington leads the N. Lions with 7 kills. (Think I heard the answer one time, but too lazy to look- what's a "Nittany Lion"?)

Oregon in a dog fight- up 17-16 in the 3rd set trying to avoid being swept.

"Nittany" is the name of that region, and the mountain-lions or cougars were tainted with that regional name for this once-agricultural school.

Now... back to work... I'm doing the Seattle productions... UW will probably have a tough time without a key player. Neb will have to try to lose, I suspect, although home-court attendance may be daunting. Or maybe not.

Penn State and Wisc, by the way, recruit for servers. First priority. They can 'coach' everything else. but they want to see killer-servers with 6 years club experience. I suspect the whole Big 10 does too because it's often the one skillset that a solitary player can work on, all alone. Like a jumpshot.

Thanks for the answer, and good luck with your work tonight.

At least on the volleytalk forum, Washington fans' seemed to have been happy with how their replacement 2nd setter in the 6-2 looked in the match or two she's played. Definitely hope and think they're favored to beat the Huskers. However, as you say, the teams are pretty close in talent (other than of course the Corn not having anyone that close in combined experience/ talent to the reigning player of the year K. Vansant), so anything can happen.

UNC up on Oregon 11-6. Ducks going to need to comeback. Edit- Ducks now down 17-8. Not looking good for them.

Set 2 loss for UCLA 16-25, so they're going to have to stage a tough comeback against maybe the most talented team in the country.

Ducks lose 25-16 in the 4th and 3 sets to 1.

Penn State up 4-3 early in the 3rd set.

    In some other results:
unseeded BYU completes its "upset" over #6 seed Florida State (although most in volleytalk thought BYU would win even as the unseeded team.) They'll face winner of Washington- Nebraska.
Florida won set one against Illinois in a close one 25-22. Winner to face Stanford.

Penn State completes the sweep over UCLA 25-19.

So, only Stanford (already into one of tomorrow's Elite 8 matches) and Washington (last Sweet 16 match to start tonight, so haven't started yet) left for the Pac 12.

In the match to see who faces Stanford, Illinois and Florida tied at 1 set each.

Washington wins set 1 25-20. Down in the 2nd 10-8. (Bummed I don't get ESPNU, so I can't watch this match.)

Illinois up 2-1 in sets in the other ongoing match. But, Florida up 20-14 in the 4th, so the odds are that one will be going 5.

Washington - Nebraska match tied at one set apiece (both set losing team's got 20 in those losing sets).

In the battle to advance and play Stanford tomorrow evening, Illinois fights off 2 match points in the 5th set, but loses 16-14, so Florida moves on. (Fun match to watch- late in the 5th, they showed a graphic that said there were 90 ties in the match and many (might have said 14?) lead changes.)

Note- kind of glad Illinois lost. There's a big volleyball conference rivalry between the Pac and Big 10, as year to year one or the other (or often both) claim to be the best, and the Big 10 is already assured one final 4 berth with Wisconsin and Penn State playing tomorrow in an elite 8 match. Don't want any more Big 10 teams in. (And, in a related note- GO HUSKIES! Beat the Corn!)

Nebraska gets set 3 25-22, so the Huskies are going to need to come back. (NE had a BIG 18-10 lead and just held on.)

Washington up 10-8 in the 4th.

Just following the volleytalk thread, the injured player for Washington that BuffaloChuck mentioned in his post (senior setter Beals hurt in one of not the last conference match, replaced by red-shirt freshman Finau) has been a big factor so far. Also, fans complaining Washington's "big gun" K. Vansant not getting nearly enough sets since set 1. (She had 7 or so kills in the 1st set. Now into the 4th set, she only has 11. Since she's hitting .357, looks like lack of sets IS the problem.)

Well- Washington is beat by Nebraska 3 sets to 1 (losing 29-27 in what must have been a heartbreaker for the home crowd in the 4th set). So, only Stanford is left to represent the Pac 12.

Looks like the Big 10 will be crowing again this off-season, although I'd say the Pac 12's depth is still greater. Overall, pretty good distribution of conferences in the 8 teams playing tomorrow evening- Big 10- 3 teams, and the following with one team each- Pac 12, WCC, ACC, SEC, Big 12.

Although I'm sure it means nothing to the losing players right now, be interesting as a volleyball fan to see how this effects the player of the year discussion. Like many college sports, volleyball is "infected" (I hate the concept) of almost always awarding their Player of the Year award only to players on teams who make the final 4. (I believe the vote is this coming week.) So, it's NOT really a player of the year award, it's the best player on the best team award, often a VERY different thing. Anyway, the main Pac players thought to be in the conversation for player of the year are K. Vansant and K. Lowe. Hope both are still considered for the award in spite of today's results. If not, reading the volleytalk forum, and assuming the voters DO almost always pick only players from final 4 teams, the Player of the Year award may come down to a winner take all match tomorrow night in one Elite 8 match with the two other main favorites (along with K. Vansant) going head to head, setter Hancock for Penn State facing off against setter Carlini for Wisconsin.

Edit- Did want to apologize for taking over an allbuffs thread for my (usually) general volleyball ramblings. Hope all but the few general volleyball fans were able to successfully ignore all this.
