Not blaming the loss on this in the slightest, but it certainly appeared to me that there were 3 big review situations in this game and the booth got all of them wrong.
1. Cody's fumble on the first drive. Seems to me that the ball going 5 yards down the field is fairly indicative of a forward passing motion. Maybe my logic is flawed.
2. Receiver fumble #1. The receiver clearly lost control of the ball long before he hit the ground (though he was able to temporarily pin it between his chest and his forearm). They had the call right on the field, then inexplicably overturned it. This was a debatable call, but the rulebook says that you only overturn a call made on the field if there is indisputable video evidence to the contrary. The overturn here did not live up to that standard, not even close.
3. Receiver fumble #2. Walters cleanly strips the ball from an FSU receiver along the sideline. The receiver stepping out of bounds and Walters stripping the ball clearly happen within a fraction of a second, but the booth doesn't even bother to stop the game and make sure they got the call right? What the hell was that?
So that's 3 turnovers, all of which went in FSU's favor, all of which could have and perhaps should have gone in CU's favor. Once again, not blaming the loss on that, but this has the potential to be a VERY different game without that first "turnover" in particular.
