Recruiting class needs: 2 RB, 2 more DB and 3 more DL or its a failure in my mind.

Looking over the class we have so far, here's the breakdown.

    3 OL (one JC)
    2 QB
    2 TE
    2 DE
    1 LB
    1 ATH
    1 WR
    1 DB

I don't care what's left, I don't care who's committed, or who hasn't.. Bottom line, this recruiting class is a failure if we don't have 2 RB, 3 DB and 5 DL in this recruiting cycle.

    13 commits - 2 RB, 3 DL, 2 DB, 1 LB, 1 OL, 1 K/P brings it up to 23 commits with 2 more to give.

    Thoughts.

I can safely say there will not be 5 DL or 2 RBs.

    That's disappointing to hear.

5 DL would have been too many. Bandison's number for his position group is 12. We return 10. There's a good chance we'll go to 3 this class since Hartigan is a LB/DE tweener, but we were never going to go to 4 or 5 this year.

This is how I see it:

    QB - 2 commits (done)
    RB - 0 commits (want 2)
    WR - 2 commits (want 2)
    TE - 2 commits (want 3)
OL - 3 commits (want 4, probably done though)
    DL - 2 commits (want 3)
    LB - 1 commit (want 3)
    DB - 1 commit (want 3)
    K/P - 0 commits (want 1)

So my wish list is 2 RBs, 1 TE, 1 OL, 1 DL, 2 LB, 2 DB and 1 K/P added to this class for 23 total. Only room for 20 before accepting any transfers, so we may not be going that high. At this point, it doesn't look like we'll lose any transfers before spring ball. If I have to shave 3 off my list, I'd say to lose an OL, TE and DB. I could see us only taking 1 RB, though.

We are not going to get anywhere near 23 IMO. I would be surprised if we sign more than 18-19.

We never sign enough DL. Last year's class (with Nuckols actually making it in) should be the standard.

Why are we UNDERsigning again? Is this the way the AD is trying to cut costs?

Jimmy buff is sounds like your basis for a successful recruiting class is based on filling spots? I think Hawkins has been a failure all but one year in recruiting, because he fails draw (or properly use ) the more sought after recruits. Player ranking more often than not is equivalent to talent. It is no coincidence that, by in large, the top ranked recruiters have the best records.

Hawkins is dead as a recruiter, even with a good season, he will never get another good class. Perception is reality in recruiting, and Hawkins is perceived as a coach that doesn’t know how foster the potential of talented players.

    syko,

I don't disagree with you. Those are just the numbers. Historically, attracting DLs has been tough at CU for whatever reason. By comparison to past years, we're actually doing pretty well. Pulling Kasa, Bonsu and West last year is about as good as it gets. If I was running things, I'd tell Bandison that his number is 13 (3 freshmen most years and supplement with JUCOs if there is attrition).

As far as scholarships, here's how I would bread down the 85:

    QB: 4
    RB: 6
    WR: 10
    TE: 6
    OL: 15
    DL: 13
    LB: 11
    CB: 10
    S: 8
    K/P: 2

Obviously give or take 1 at any particular position per year.

Based on those numbers, here's what we need this year (what we have so far in parentheses):

    QB: 0 (2)
    RB: 2 (0)
    WR: 2 (2)
    TE: 4 (2)
    OL: 0 (3)
    DL: 3 (2)
    LB: 4 (1)
    CB: 3 (1)
    S: 2 (0)
    K/P: 2

If Moten is a Safety (not QB) and Evans is a TE (not QB), then the numbers make a lot more sense. One of the big issues with getting where we need to be by position is that we over-signed on the OL in 2007 and have 7 guys in one class when it should be 3 per year. And then one of our OL recruits was a JC transfer into that same class.

But we are actually getting close to getting the number right on this team. The next step is class balance. 5 Classes into 85 scholarships is 17 per class (34 freshmen).

    Right now, our breakdown is:

    Seniors: 14
    Juniors: 25 (including Richter)
    Sophomores: 13
    RS-Freshmen: 13
Tru-Freshmen: 14 so far (including Moten)

We have too many guys in that junior class and will need to supplement the classes behind it with JCs and other transfers in order to get up to numbers and balance this thing out. Probably need at least 2 non-freshman additions to the program every year for the next few seasons in order to get this fixed.

I think you need to go at least 5 deep at QB, lots of attrition, not just here, and you need to have developed options. With that said to free up a spot with 1 less S. Other than that, I agree with you on how I would break down positions.

I still want quality but I recognize that Talkins will have to reach for a few players..

There should be enough athletes out there for Hawkins to get in here and develop whether they are 2 stars or 4 stars especially on the DL..

Perhaps the players, or their parents, have seen through the Dan Hawkins charade...

Of the kids we are getting how many had offers from other BCS programs?

    Sorta sad really.

Negative Ghostrider. Kids who want to play in big games (and win) now go to BSU or TCU among others.

In fact both Utah and BSU now have more BCS games and wins than we do.
