Recruiting News - Olympic Sports

Just noticed it looks like another 2015 lacrosse player has shown up on this year's roster- Shea O'Donnell, listed as being a 5'1" midfielder. Ms. O'Donnell hails from Beckman High School in Irvine CA and the X Team Black lacrosse club. A belated welcome to her coming to Boulder and joining the Buffs!

Maxpreps high school stats- http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/she...AmVebBJg/gendersport/girls-lacrosse-stats.htm (Looks like she improved her scoring every year, culminating in her senior year when she led her team with a ~4.7 points per game average.)

Kritza must have this fascination with Middle Blockers. I really can't see them needing another one. But maybe, at her height, she might be coming in to be Cierra's replacement as a tall libero..

Looks like volleyball may have picked up a new class of 2017 commit (per her tweet below) in Kathryn Attar, a 5-11 Outside hitter from Wharton High School in Tampa, Florida and the Tampa United Volleyball Academy (TUVA).

Welcome and congrats to her committing to the Buffs!

Maxpreps stats- http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/kat...OZ5AAmVebBJg/gendersport/volleyball-stats.htm
(Looks like she impressively led her team last year offensively as a sophomore with 5.3 kills/ set. Also looks like she is an all-around player with her team, leading her team in aces, and 2nd in digs (behind I assume only the libero). This year, her team is off to an 11-1 start, and is ranked #12 in Florida per Maxpreps.)

Looks like as a sophomore she was the only non-senior voted All-Tampa Bay 1st team (http://www.tampabay.com/sports/volleyballpreps/tampa-bay-times-all-tampa-bay-volleyball/2211260). What that article says about her- “OH Kathryn Attar, So., Wharton: Attar commanded the court and led all of Tampa Bay with 441 kills. The 5-foot-11 hitter also recorded 55 aces.”

Per Prepvolleyball.com, she was 1 of ~35 young women on the 2015 USA Girls’ Youth A1 National Training Team (http://prepvolleyball.com/2015/06/16/free-2015-usa-girls-youth-a1-national-training-team/ ).

Looks like the Buffs volleyball just received their 2nd commitment from Punahou High School in Honolulu, this one a 2017 high school class member, in 5'10" outside Hitter Amalia "Paige" Hilliard. She also plays club ball for, as indicated in the below tweet, Spike and Serve Volleyball.

Welcome and congrats to Ms. Hilliard!

Pretty sure Paige Hilliard is a 2018 recruit. If she is currently a sophomore, she will be graduating high school in June 2018.

Thanks for catching that. I don't know why I assumed 2017, and Maxpreps even says 2018. I'll correct the OP.

Congrats to 2016 soccer commit Taylor Kornieck for being 1 of 26 young women called up to the U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team for the 10/18-10/26 period.

Per http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club...r-revealed-for-u18-wnt-camp-in-socal_aid37983 ,
"...During this event, the U-18s will play the San Diego Sea Lions of the W-League on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at Cathedral High School.

All the players in this camp were born in 1998 and all are eligible for the team that will attempt to qualify for the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, but the goal for this age group is ultimately the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup."

Noticed I had forgotten to update the NCAA signing dates for 2015 in the OP, so have done so now. (Less than a month (November 11, 2015) until the one week early signing period begins for all CU Olympic sports except soccer.)

Looks like soccer just received its 3rd commitment for the Class of 2018 in Emily Groark, a midfielder (per the ECNL link below) and/ or forward (as listed in Top Drawer Soccer) from Incarnate Word Academy in St. Louis MO and the St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club (SGSC).

Welcome and congrats to Ms. Groark for the committing to the Buffs!

(Of course, as with all sports, the Buffs can't name a commitment until they've officially signed the necessary documents during their high school senior year. However, based on the timing of the 2 tweets above, I'd say there's a strong indication that Ms. Groark is a confirmed verbal commitment.)

Her Top Drawer Soccer page (looks among other things to be rated 3 stars by them, and has played a lot in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) (from the "Events" tab) the last couple of years for the SGSC, which from my VERY limited time trying to keep track of CU commits seems to be where a lot of the top young players play.)- http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-player-profile/emily-groark/pid-67836/tab-articles

Her ECNL page- http://www.eliteclubsnationalleague.com/teams/62561624/38337548-62562500/57538506.html (Only has stats for one of her years in ECNL, but for that year looks like she was the leading point producer (7 goals and 7 assists) for her SGSC ECNL Under 15 team which mainly played last September through December.)

The laxpower.com database (http://www.laxpower.com/recruits/recruits.php?db=wrecruits2017&action=view) is showing the Buffs having added a 2017 commitment in midfielder Devon Bayer, from Calhoun High School in Merrick NY and the LI (Long Island) Top Guns lacrosse club. Her club is also showing her as a CU commitment at http://www.litopguns.com/index.aspx?catID=15 .

Welcome and congrats to Ms. Bayer!

And Buff soccer continues to fill up its 2018 class, as Topdrawersoccer.com ( http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/coll...women/colorado/clgid-205/tab-commitments#tabs ) is showing a 4th young women has verbally committed to join the Buff that year, midfielder Kayleigh Webb from San Marcos HS and the Carlsbad United FC in the San Diego area.

Welcome and congrats to her!

Her topdrawersoccer page- http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-player-profile/kayleigh-webb/pid-86959 (They rate her 3 stars.)

Highlight(s) page (Only one there right now)- http://www.hudl.com/athlete/5162922/kayleigh-webb

Maxpreps high school stats page- http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/kay...0gAmVebEWg/gendersport/girls-soccer-stats.htm (Able to contribute as a freshman with 4 goals and 2 assists.)

Last year, looks like she was named to the "Top 11" for her (then) U14 age group in the U.S. Youth Soccer 2014 National Championships- http://championships.usyouthsoccer.org/2014_national_championships_best_11/

Short video interview with her after being named per club's player of the month earlier this year-

At least per the below tweet, the 1st cross country/ track athlete I can find as committing for the coming (2016/17) year is distance runner Madie Boreman from Rouse High School in Leander (Austin area) TX. Edit- Milesplit (http://www.milesplit.com/signings/2016) also now showing her as a Buff commit. (Unlike (especially) the Olympic team sports where players often commit early in their high school years, seems like track and field and cross country athletes typically don't commit until pretty close to the official signing period, and often wait even beyond that.)

Welcome and congrats for her committing to the Buffs!

Cross Country results- http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Athlete.aspx?AID=5200893 (Impressively won the 4A Texas State Championship as a freshman, and has followed up with 7th (also 4A division) and 15th place (in 6A) finishes as a sophomore and junior. Also came in 38th as a sophomore in the prestigious Nike Cross Country National (NXN) race.)

Track results- http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=5200893 (PR's look to be 4:53.49 for 1600M and 10:24.70 for the 3200M. In last season's State championships, improved on her 8th place finish in the 1600M and 4th place finish in the 3200M as a sophomore by finishing 4th and 3rd in those races as a junior, even as her school jumped to the (I assume) tougher 6A division (from 4A) last year.)

Article including mention of her this cross country season- http://tx.milesplit.com/articles/167115?page=3 (Sound like, after missing some early races this year due to college visits, she just won her region's race for the 4th straight year. Assume she’ll be one of the contenders for a top finish at this coming Saturday’s TX State race.)

Article of her recent region-winning race this year- http://www.hillcountrynews.com/sports/article_ee007b32-7e44-11e5-888f-1fc97d760e6d.html

Per her twitter (see below) and milesplit.com, Buff track and field picked up its 2nd commit in ~2 days in Madelaine Bayless from Brentwood HS in Bentwood TN. Based on her results on athletic.net (see link below), I'd guess she'll be a multi-event athlete (she was 10th in last year's heptathlon at last year's AAA division TN state championships), but obviously as a heptathlete she's done many different events so could also choose to concentrate on one or two at college. (It looks like she does have a 5'5" high jump PR, so if she continues improving she could become competitive in that event.)

Welcome and congrats to her!

As noted in the 2016 class signing news thread, it looks like a previously unknown track and field commit signed with the Buffs today- high jumper Giancarlo Narvarte from Lee Williams High School in Kingman, AZ looks to have signed on as a Buff per the below tweets.

As I also said in the other thread- Welcome to him joining the Buffs!

His results per Maxpreps- http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/gia...Z5AAmVebBJg/gendersport/track-field-stats.htm

Per Maxpreps, he looks to mainly be a high jumper, and already jumped 6'10" last year as a junior, so definitely seems like he could be a VERY productive Buff athlete as he develops his senior year and in college. Also, looks like he may be doing well in high school even while splitting time between 2 sports, so who knows what his ceiling might be when he can concentrate on the high jump in college. (As a junior last season, he was also a BIG contributor to his school's basketball team, leading them in scoring (13.4/ game), rebounding (12.3/ game) and, most impressively, blocks, with a crazy 7/ game.)

Per an article ( http://kdminer.com/main.asp?SectionID=2&SubSectionID=2&ArticleID=65942 ), he "only" came in 2nd in the state championships last season clearing 6'4" (sound like he was suffering from a bad knee) , after winning as a sophomore with a 6'8" jump.

Milesplit (http://www.milesplit.com/signings/2016) is showing a new 2016 class Buff middle distance/ cross country commit in Nathan Pixler from Eastlake High School in Sammamish Washington. (Since it's signing day, assume they found out that he'd signed with CU, but I haven't found anything of his signing yet.)

Cross country stats- http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Athlete.aspx?AID=4735229
(Looks like he just finished 2nd in the state 4A cross county race, showing big and continual improvement from a 27th place finish as a junior and a 53rd place as a sophomore in those same championships.)

Track results- http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=4735229
(As a junior, looks like earned points for his team in both the 800M (3rd) and 1600M (6th) in the State 4A championships.)

As noted in the signing thread, CU track and cross country picked up another signing in Sage Hurta from Hamilton Central High School in Hamilton NY.

Welcome and congrats on her signing!

Cross country results- http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Athlete.aspx?AID=2729641
(As defending champion, she will be looking to go back to back in the New York Class D (looks like small school) state championships this weekend.)

Track results- http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=2729641
(Earned 3rd and 10th place in the 800M and 1500M, respectively, in last year's state championships after earning 15th and 2nd place in those events as a sophomore.)

Article on her recently winning her 3rd consecutive sectional Class D title - http://radiofreehamilton.com/2123/146568/a/threepeat-hurta-wins-section-ii-class-d-title

As also was noted in the signing thread, another Buff cross country/ track runner has signed, Connor Dunne, from San Clemente HS in Southern California. Welcome to him joining the Buffs!

Cross country results- http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Athlete.aspx?AID=4778203
,(Looks like he's been more successful on the track (or at least he doesn't have any state championship results), but did win his race in the (multi-divisional) Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational last month, and seems to have improved a lot this year (40+ seconds PR's this year in 3 different cross country distances). With his improvement, be interesting to see if he can possibly make it to the (very competitive) California state championships this year, which aren't until Nov. 29th.)

Track results- http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=4778203
(Best finish so far looks to be a 10th place finish in last season's California State Championships in the 800 meters.)

As posted earlier today in the signing day thread, welcome and congrats to Drianna Mustin (per the below tweet) from I believe North Canyon HS in Phoenix on joining the Buffs track and field teams.

Can't tell from the below results for sure what event(s) she might compete in. Since she seems to have tried almost every event, if I had to guess I'd say she might be planning on doing the multi-events (heptathlon, etc.). BUT, finishing as a junior 3rd in the 800M at the Arizona Div. 1 State Championships (won by current Buff Dani Jones), and 2nd in the 400M at the Arizona Meet of Champions as she did also indicates she may have the necessary speed to be a 400M/800M and/ or 200M/400M specialist if she feels her skills can be best utilized that way.

Track results- http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=7400270

Cross Country results- http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Athlete.aspx?AID=7400270
(At CU, some 800M runners will run some XC races with the Buffs, I assume as a way to spice up their fall training as they build their fitness base.)

Not confirmed by my typical main source for lacrosse commits (laxpower.com database), but just from her thanking a few friends (I assume) on twitter for their tweets congratulating her on committing to the Buffs, looks like lax may have picked up a 2017 verbal commitment from midfielder Sadie Grozier from Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton in (the east bay of Northern) California.

If true, welcome and congrats to her committing with the Buffs!

Maxpreps stats- http://www.maxpreps.com/high-school...santon,ca)/girls-lacrosse-spring-15/stats.htm
(Looks like she averaged over 3 goals per game for her team as a sophomore, making her the 2nd leading scorer on her team; a team which Maxpreps ranked #9 in California and 45th nationally last year.)

Per http://www.contracostatimes.com/high-school-sports/ci_28293251/all-east-bay-girls-lacrosse-team , she was one of only 2 sophomores named All East Bay 1st Team by the Contra Costa Times, with the article saying about her- "SADIE GROZIER, Amador Valley, So., Midfield -- Grozier scored in every game but one, and had a combined 14 goals in four NCS games to finish with 76 goals and 89 points. She was the only sophomore to make first team all-league as a midfielder, as she had 66 ground balls, 40 takeaways and won 91 draws. "

Per the below tweet (and already also tweeted by her club team), looks like Buff lacrosse has just gone to the Deep South to pick up a 2018 commitment in midfielder Bailey Hawkins from Cambridge High School in Milton Georgia and the Eagle Stix lacrosse club.

Welcome and congrats on her commitment! Hope all goes well the remainder of her high school years.

Her Maxpreps page- http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/bailey-hawkins/ENdjD9okEeS-8KA2nzwbTA/default.htm
(Not much info (stats, etc.) available. They did rank her team #4 in Georgia and #61 nationwide last year.)

Her high school's lacrosse homepage (Not much info right now)- http://www.cambridgebears.com/sports/wlax/index

As was 1st mentioned in the Olympic Sport signing thread, 1st announced in the below tweets they sent out, Buff men's golf signed 4 young players for 2016.

Welcome and congrats (or "velkommen og tillykke" for the 2 Danes (per Google translate)) again to all for joining the Buffs!

Official article with more info about them is at .http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=210513629 .

"
BOULDER —University of Colorado men’s golf coach Roy Edwards has added four new golfers to the program, all of whom signed letters-of-intent within the last few days to join the Buffaloes program.

The group includes two recruits from California, Haoyuan “Jack” Li and Scott Mitchell, as well as two Europeans with ties to Denmark where current CU senior Philip Juel-Berg hails from, Victor Bjorlow and Morton Toft Hansen.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with the signings of Scott, Jack, Morten, and Victor,” Edwards said. “Players build programs and we have high expectations for all of these guys. If they work hard, are coachable, embrace challenges, and they believe in themselves, they will all be very good players at Colorado. We are very fortunate to have this group join with an already strong nucleus of guys on the team who will be back next year.”

Edwards also cited the fact that CU’s strong worldwide reputation as a golf program within the nation’s strongest golfing conference, the Pac-12, was a factor in attracting the quartet to sign with the Buffs.

Oh Canada, Part II.

It appears the soccer program has received a commitment from Camilla Shymka for the HS class of '16. And yes, she's from Calgary, although a different club team (Southwest United) than Sarah Kinzner. And like Kinzner she will be on the Canadian U-20 team going to Honduras this week to help Canada qualify for the 2016 U-20 World Cup.

Not a lot of info on her, but below is a link to an old video interview with her:

Thanks so much. I'll add her to the soccer master list in the original post.

Welcome and congrats to her joining the Buffs!

The one sport I had NO luck in getting ANY early info on incoming Buffs was skiing, but it looks like a 2015/16 roster has finally been posted for this year, and here are the new freshmen Buffs. Welcome to all! (Or, saying it another way (for the 5 of the 6 frosh Buffs from Norway)- "Velkommen til CU!"):

Buff ski team freshman_2015-12.jpg

Source - Just pulled the freshman entries from official roster at http://www.cubuffs.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&SPID=273&SPSID=4248&DB_OEM_ID=600 .

(I'd love to be a fly on the wall as the Buff's two current greatest/ legendary coaches, skiing's Rokos and Cross Country/ Track and Field's Wetmore, the later of whom is probably THE main college track coach championing an "American only" recruiting philosophy, having a civil and spirited philosophical debate over the "rightness" or validity of giving non-American's scholarship dollars. (I imagine this debate occurring while they're eating a fine meal, probably after drinking a great beer, or two, or three.))

Who did Mahoney land? Sounds like he got his first VB commit this week.

Haven't seen anything where I normally see VB commits. But here's what I HOPE it is : Gabby loves it as a right side hitter and wants to continue to develop in that role so the Buffs need a setter. There are a couple of setters looking to transfer who were fairly highly regarded last year coming out of high school.

Rumor is it's Alexa Smith from Lewis Palmer High School. Just finished her freshman year at Purdue. If true this is a big, big, deal. Very highly rated coming out of high school.
