    Tough loss.

Can someone explain the roughing the passer call to me? Was it on the initial pass from the qb? Because if so, that was a lateral, not a pass. If it was on the second pass from the rb back to the qb, that was bs because they showed it on tv and no one hit the guy - plus, i think that was a lateral too.

    Explanation please.

    Thanks.

I think the only people that know the explanation to that are the officials.

It was on the rb (think it was actually a receiver)

Ok. So on the TV they cut back before the hit. It must have been pretty late. But was that really a forward pass back to the QB?

I think they considered it the hit on the QB, so you're right, it was a lateral, and he should be fair game. I said the same thing at the bar, then realized they were at the 5 yard line anyways, so it didn't really matter.

The officials don't know their heads from a hole in the ground

Unless there was another lateral followed by a forward pass from the receiver that I'm not aware of, the play ended inside our ten yard line (maybe not the five, but definitely inside the ten). They completed the pass regardless, and the penalty was tacked on half the distance to the goal line.

    The call was wrong

You are correct the call was wrong. If it was roughing the passer, than the second pass would have been a second forward pass. The officials were a joke.

The only passer that was hit was the first guy, which should not have been a roughing if it was a lateral. Cal got a freebie there.

The flag came VERY early (i.e. BEFORE the 2nd pass was made).

I thought they called the penalty because CU hit the QB after he made the 1st pass, but before he got up and caught the return pass.

And, honestly, it was probably the correct call if you go back and watch the play. Maynard passed the ball over to Allen. He got hit a few steps later. At that point - the flag was thrown. There was no indication that it was a throw back pass at that point.

And in the end -- that wound up being a 3 yard penalty. Even without the penalty Cal has it 1st and goal at the CU 7.

If you go.back.to the replay, you will see that the QB was just brushed, it only caused his leg to come off the ground... Never put him to the ground.

I agree, not a factor as far as field position... Still a horrid call.

Especially considering he did not "pass" the ball.

Exactly. You can clearly see the ref throw the flag the second our player ran by Maynard before he got the return pass and barely brushed him. I'm still blown away the ref threw a flag on that. Then later in the game, Hansen gets drilled a good second after he throws the ball knocking him to the ground...no call.

The refs are not THE reason we lost this game, but they were part of the reason and that cannot be disputed. There were just too many blatantly bad calls at critical times (plays we had ended drives) that went their way and led to points. Some that come to mind quickly:

Awful interference call on Henderson on third down that led to their first TD

Roughing the passer that we just talked about

    Not calling roughing on Hansen

Calling us for roughing the kicker, but not calling it on them

Questionable holding call on Miller when the play was well past him on final drive of regulation

There were more, but I can't remember them

Little Ed was trying to make up for dad's blown call in Denver a couple of years ago,.

Are you allowed to throw two forward passes?

They didn't get flagged for roughing the kicker because the ball was tipped.

Was that ball actually tipped? From where I was sitting it looked like the guy didn't even come close.

I was watching the "coverage" on TV, the announcers were Cal homers and we adamant the ball was tipped - I could not see anything on the replays. That was one of many BS calls.

Were you watching the HD feed? The ball was clearly tipped, but it's hard to tell on FCS's innovative "cover the camera with vaseline" technology.

Good to know. I don't have a problem with the call as long as it is correct.

If it wasn't tipped, it was completely and totally shanked by the kicker. It went straight right as soon as it came off his foot.
