I'd like it to be Simmons.
I really doubt Speedy. I've heard that he's less than automatic catching the ball.
B-Lock is also a possibility.
Scotty's the safe choice but he's also the last guy we can afford to get injured on special teams.
you could have just voted for scotty :smile2:I know 87 is being snarky about taking risks, but I really do hope whoever is back there just catches the damn ball. A fair catch on the 25 is fine with me. Would I like to start on the 35 or 40 after the guy makes the first man miss, sure, but a fumble on the 25 is crushing. Only thing worse is a fumble on a kickoff, those are really crushing. But, turning the ball over on a change of possession play always hurts. It kills momentum, but really it puts the D in a ****ty spot. Either they just worked their asses off to get off the field, or they just got their asses kicked and gave up a score. They need a minute to catch their breath in either situation.
Thus, just give me someone who won't let the ball hit the turf.

That's why I personally didn't like J-Fly as a returner. Sure he had some great returns, but he bobbled, and dropped the ball more times than I care to remember. I was always nervous when he was back there.

I think Scotty is #2 on the Depth chart. He would be #1 if he wasn't also our #1 WR... however, take our Depth chart with a pound of salt these days...I didn't vote for anyone because I have no idea who can catch punts. Scotty is a sure handed receiver, that's for sure, but catching punts is a totally different ball game. If he's the best, then yeah, let him go back and make fair catches.
Reported in one of the threads that he broke his thumb... Don't see you how you play as a WR with one of those.is espy hurt or is this just a 'what if' scenario?

I would LOVE to see speedy or Simmons...
I personally think Speedy has got the best build for PR... like you said, shiftyness is more important than top end speed. However, so is catching the damn ball... I think Hawk mentioned Simmons at KR at some point... I would rather have bad ass speed AND the ability to catch the ball...Did Simmons return punts at his JC? Everyone brings him up, but I'm not sure he's necessarily someone I would expect to be a great PR. Blazing speed is nice, but really you want someone that can make a quick move in traffic and get up to top speed quickly, i.e. someone like Speedy would make great sense. If the guy gets in the clear, blazing long distance speed is nice, but that's something that is more useful for KO returns. To me, PR is about making one guy miss and getting as many yards as you can before the rest of the crew shows up.
To be honest, maybe Simmons fits that mold too, I haven't seen enough of him to know what he can do.

I would like to see Simmons but bet he has McKnight do it. Slow and steady ehh Hawk.
this year ya... what happened to the BSU trick plays?Agreed. You can always count on Hawk to keep it as non-sexy as possible.
