All this talk out of fall camp and such is the same crap we have been hearing for years. I want to drink the kool aid and want to believe the players who work so hard, but the "this time we really really really mean it, just look into my eyes!" stuff is no different than any other year. Every player on every team across the country thinks this way right now. It is not until the first kick off is under way will we know.

Sadly I think the talent on this team is solid and the players are good enough to make some noise, but this coaching staff has been a joke so far, and to expect a change after Hawkins keeps saying he isn't changing anything is, well, insanity.

I am not optimistic, or even cautiously optimistic. I am simply hopeful, and all I can now say to this program is show me, don't tell me.

    That's fair.

As much as I've come to believe that 2010 is going to be the turning point in Buff football, another bad season wouldn't shock me. We're all in "wait-and-see" mode, I think.

But try not to piss on my Cheerios in August. I'm trying to have fun with this for the next month while it's impossible for a loss to kill my buzz. :smile2:

You need to change your handle to "Buffeddown." :smile2:

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I think Kiesau having a year under his belt and having Prince run the WR's and even Johnson having a full year with the OL will make a big difference. Hey, no matter how optomistic or pessimistic any of us are, it will all come down to what happens on the field. And either way, we will all be pumped for opening day.

I agree. Talk is cheap...I said a while back, kck the **** out of CSU and we'll talk, until then it's the same pre-season blather you hear every year (best off season EVER). The difference betwen prior regimes and Hawk is that other coaches had some success at CU that at least could convince you there was some real truth to what was being said. To quote the Zen master...we'll see.

    I agree.

There is a single reason I have to believe that things are different this year than last. Two years ago, it seemed like the program was headed in the right direction. Win over OU, 6-6, bowl game, pushed bama to the brink. I believe the team and the coaching staff walked into last year thinking they would dominate and then got their teeth knocked in.

There is no way anybody goes into this year over-confident. After last year, they know they have to prove it and that gives me a bit of hope.

I still won't believe it until I see the team come out and play with their heads in the game from the first snap, however.

i'm all up and **** right now but until we beat CSU by 2 TD's......I might then acknowledge that the bandwagon drives up my street.

A convincing win against CSU would be a step in the right direction.

I'm basically jumping out of my skin thinking of the potential..... But 2009 is still too fresh for me.

Everyone can benefit from a little "show-me".

The CSU game is our biggest game of the last 6 years imo. Win big, and this team will have confidence to take it thru the inevitable pitfalls they will hit. They will reach their potential, whatever that is. Start slowly against CSU and doubts might creep in (they may not - I like the leadership I'm seeing from Solder, Miller, Clemons, the QBs. Every guy on the 1's at this point has played a lot of D1 football.

We are taking the opening kickoff 95 yards for 7! My cup is empty Mo-Fo's! Drink it!

One positive you can take from the reports.

The last few years, amidst the sunshine pumping, you would get a few debbie downer and welcome to reality posts from some people.

That has yet to happen. In fact, one of those posters who predicted gloom after seeing fall camp last season- is pumping sunshine after this weekend.

Totally agree with your point- they are going to have to prove it. But the sunshine pumping is a little different thus far. Can't wait til the scrimmage thursday........... think if its all positive after that, might start getting more excited about this season.

i am not necessarily buying it yet either, but at least the reports that are coming out are that they are crisp, organized, and everybody looks quick. not that the practices are sloppy disorganized and they look out of shape.

My only point of optimism is that I think we have a good bunch of kids. For all his many failings, Hawk has recruited some talented football players who seem to be quality guys. Our talent is not in the same ballpark as Texas or OU but it is good enough to win a lot more than we have, it is only waiting for some leadership to guide it in the right direction. If we get that this year, we win a bunch of games and all of us are happy. If we don't get it this year Hawk is gone and our new coach has something to work with meaning that we don't have to wait another 4-5 years to see results.

This is a hard time to be a Buff fans because expectations have been forced so low but it is a good time to be a Buff fan because we know that the potential is there to have a program we can all be proud of in the future, the only question is when will the future be.

Well, for the first time in five years, we have real depth across the board. We finally have a team with no giant gaps at key positions. We finally have a majority of our starters as Juniors and Seniors. I think these are all firsts in the Hawkins era. I don't think anybody is forgetting the last four years, but these are all key factors in any program's success. We should all be skeptical, but hopeful.

our db depth, of whom we are going to rely on greatly for a successful year, is horrid.

CU will finish 9-3, win the north and beat OU in the big 12 championship and raise a finger to the big 12. Then the bowl win will give cu an 11-3 season.

Suck it you debbie downers and hawk bashers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This post will self destruct on sept 4th in the late afternoon if ,,,,,,,

He was pissed a couple of years ago at the recruiting luncheon. Didn't come to much. I love the kids, but this staff has zero credibility as of now in my book and unfortunately they call the shots.

I know many of you love to bash the coaching staff. But I think, just as the team is growing, so is the coaching staff. Kiesau has a full year under his belt. I also like what I read about Ambrose and Prince. Denver Johnson also now has a year under his belt. It takes time for coaches as well as players.

Too much established history with Hawk and staff to be buying in much right now. I think they have far more to prove than the kids. Can they really coach a winner? And speaking of depth aren't we pretty much in the same boat with running backs as we are with Db's??

Since anything can happen in a rivalry game, look really solid against Cal who usually starts pretty hot and then collapses later, and I'll start to thinking about buying the snake oil. Until then I'm just going to watch it all happen.

Not the same at RB. Right now the top Four are Speedy, BLock, Nabors and Q. All have a year on campus and the first two have at least 2 years of experience. Q has looked very tough and instinctual in practice. They all know the system, have the timing, and are probably more reliable on their assignments vs. a blitz, etc. right now.

Probably the one thing is they are all smaller guys, not big backs. But the offense I watched during the 2nd half of '09, the spring of '10 and so far this fall is geared to a lot of passing and getting the ball to these quick RB's in space, along with zone reads that really pressure with Hansen as a dual threat. The only power running game we are likely to see is during goal-line and short yardage.

I anticipate we will see one of the freshmen show his stuff - a lot of football between now and CSU.

At DB, If there is an injury, you will see a RS freshman at CB (Olatoye or Moten probably) and it's a free for all right now at Safety behind the starters.

I don't think this team will meet expectations.

With that said, if there is one tangible thing to hang your hat on for a turnaround, it has got to be the change at quarterback. In the last 4 years, I have witnessed perhaps the worst stretch of quarterback play I have seen at the collegiate level. The million dollar question is: Has the offense struggled because the quarterbacks have been inept, or have the quarterbacks struggled because the offense has been inept? If it's primarily the latter, then nothing is going to change. This offense has been horrendous. No way to sugar coat it.

Tyler was not much better statistically, but he did look capable. Maybe preparation as a starter is what he needs to take his play to the next level.

I still remember last season. I will continue to expect the worst out of this team and be very happy when the worst does not happen.
