I understand this is supposed to be about Neinas, but those are some really great things to hear about HCMM especially from the Valor head coach. They're gonna be pumping out P5 athletes for a long time, I couldn't be happier to hear that Mac is building a great relationship there.

I am not expecting any staff changes. The continuity angle will be repeated all offseason.

That article was more about HCMM than Neinas. In fact it didn't reference Neinas all that much. Good to hear for in state recruiting, especially with Valor.

Then RG is out of touch with what matters and is just giving us lip service.

Hope I'm wrong, but MacIntyre seems to think recruiting is right on track and that they are close on the field. Not sure he sees any need to shake things up.

Who has Neinas recruited that could yield him a title even closely resembling a "great recruiter"?

I have no doubt Neinas is helping in-state. But that is basically outweighed by our abysmal Texas recruiting. He was supposed to help us down there.

Neinas is very well liked. Every writer I have talked to has said what a wonderful guy he is and what a great family he has. They would hate to see him fired (on a personal level). Beyond that, he is well connected within the state and people like him.

I'm not a Neinas fan, but I did expect him to get some support from the beat writers.

No one. I think the article was more about the relationship with high school coaches in Colorado.

A brief mention by a high school coach constitutes 'spin'. Huh. I guess my question would be who is doing the spinning, and why.

Except Gonzales and Kinney this is the first time I've heard about Nienas on recruiting trail. It was good to hear. I could be wrong; but, I still think we could do better overall. At the very least would like to see Hagan recruiting LA.

I'm not going to jump the gun here quite yet, but if Neinas returns I'm going to be severely disappointed. His ST has sucked. He brings nothing else to the table coaching wise. Recruiting is subpar at best. Whiffed hard on his only kicker recruit so far. And is one of like 4 CU coaches that recruits the state of Colorado. Where he hasn't really landed anyone yet, but coaches like him, so that's nice.

Definitely not a fan of Neinas, but whether or not his kicker recruit has whiffed remains to be seen. As we all know, there are practice kickers and game kickers, and sometimes players can surprise us.
It isn't surprising that the recruit from Mexico didn't knock either veteran/senior punter or kicker off their spots; but when he's actually competing for game time, the story has not been written.
Did Neinas recruit incoming punter Alex Kinney? He looks solid --- but then again, until we see him in a few games, who knows?

i would like to see them move Neinas to a non-coaching staff position. Like bama has with several coaches on staff as "advisors". I am sure he has worth and could help the team, just think there are others out there that could help more.

Internally, it wouldn't be the worst move to flip him for Hagan. Put Hagan at RB, promote LaRussa to ST Coordinator + a defensive position, and have Neinas take on the Director of Player Development role. I think we can do better than that, but even doing this small internal move would represent an improvement imho.

People should really check out the Pac 12 stats including only the 9 conference games. It is enlightening. Here are the cliff notes:
    1) CU top half in offense
    2) CU average in special teams
    3) CU 11 of 12 in defense

    http://pac-12.com/content/football-statistics

Neinas' special teams, once conference play started, were better than people are giving him credit for.

All in all, it is stunning to know we were dead last in the conference in wins given where we were statistically. The horrible defense and turnover ratio killed us.

I agree. They're average. Which probably means that we have to grant "better than average" considering that our conventional wisdom is that the CU roster didn't have a lot of depth and the injuries to the LBs and defensive backfield had as big of an impact on STs as they did on the defense.

But my issue is also with the entire concept of having a dedicated ST Coordinator if the guy isn't an Orgeron-level recruiter. You might bring me around if the special teams was at the level of VA Tech glory days. But we're not seeing that and we're not getting a recruiting ace. My complaint here is less Neinas-based and more of a concept/philosophical disagreement with MacIntyre on his staff configuration.

Do all those teams have dedicated special teams coaches and are they all such terrible recruiters?

Why does it have to take half the season for our special teams to be "average"?

Were they even average? I thought rward posted stats awhile ago and we were like 90th in the country. I also don't see the point in removing OOC games to make our ST look average. We need those OOC games as bad as anyone at this point.

Also worth mentioning, average with a senior kicker and punter shouldn't be applauded.

If you take out all the bad plays, our special teams were pretty good.

This was the same spin last year regarding the STs. Maybe Toby needs to start coaching the OOC games? We have four next season.

Allbuffs will soon convince itself that staff changes aren't necessary and that we're so close... no need to make a change

    Uhm, no.

I will be pissed if neinas isn't shown the door. I have a feeling I'm not alone.

I didn't think so, but that is the argument. It seems it takes 3-4 games before our special teams even become average. I am totally at a loss with how any one can spin this.

I respectfully ask Ringo to check his verbiage re: Rod Sherman. While the man has been Valor's athletic director since 2007, he has been their head football coach a much shorter amount of time.

With that said, I'm glad to hear the MacIntyre administration is getting a good reputation with local high school coaches. I have a much bigger problem with the Neinas praise when you consider he was hired to have special teams responsibilities. You hire a dedicated ST coach to have above average special teams. Since our special teams did little to help us win the field position battle and we're not recruiting in the top 50 I have a problem with believing he is still the best available fit for that role on this staff going forward.
