so, we've got a little over a week to go... i am sure some others have been listening to hawkins' post practice audio and all that... he sounds confident but surly.
i think he knows for sure that the bloom is off the rose in terms of expectations but i think he feels like they have a good chance to be good this year.
it is interesting to contrast the wide open funk in the trunk voodoo hawk of a couple years ago with the monosyllabic hawk of today.
all that said, i couldn't care less if he is pumping sunshine provided they win on the field. this is a really big year for the program. another losing season and thinks are going to be very grim, no matter how you slice it.
i think there are lots of reasons to be optimistic. there is more depth than we've seen in the last few seasons. and, there are far more legit big 12 players at more positions than there were 3 years ago. we still have some gaps, of course. but the talent level is way up, imho. the experience level, across the board, still isn't what you would want, but it is improving.
i really like what kiesau has been saying about the offense too--- hopefully it translates from words to deeds. the o-line, while young, looks potentially very good. and the backs, of course, also look very good. that screams for a power running game.
i honestly think this team wins at least 7 games minimum, barring disaster. i think 8 is very possible. 9 or 10 is not impossible. in terms of setting the table and such, i think 8+ will be necessary for a decent recruiting year. and it can't be an ugly 8 wins... the offense needs to look like a machine and the defense needs to look aggressive. players will come to a pro-set offense if they think it is going to be effective.
just over a week to go until the lambs get crushed. they need to just stick to the basics. CU should own the LOS against the sheep. run the ball down their freaking throats. and, then when they are sucking for air and beaten down, go right over the top of the defense for the dagger strike.
GO BUFFS!
