This is from the latest Throw you a Bohn. Does anybody know the 12 schools who have played football longer than CU?

The 2007 football season is upon us, as in just one short month YOUR TEAM, the Colorado Buffaloes, begin our 118th season of intercollegiate football. Did you know only 12 schools have played football longer than CU?

    1890 CU Schedule:
    Nov. 15 at Denver Athletic Club. L 0 - 20
    Nov. 22 Colorado Mines L 0 - 103 (!!!)
    Nov. 29 at Colorado Springs A.A. L 0 - 44
(no idea of what that org is. Too early for Alcoholics Annonimous, Air Academy, or American Airlines)
    Dec 13. Colorado Mines L 4 - 50.

    Not exactly an auspicious beginning.

I get a charge that when the new state gov't established funding for a university and a prison and gave Canyon City first dibbs. Apparently the state had more crooks than geeks, so the prison went to Canyon City and the rest is Boulder history.

canon city, pronounced "canyon" but not spelled like that.

yes, this is true. canon city had first dibs and chose the prison because they thought the attendance would be better.

Once again, I stand corrected. I can respect a man who just might have spent some quality time at the state pen. :smile2:

I've heard that story before but I thought it was about Pueblo choosing the State Hospital over the University.:huh::confused:

nope, pueblo wasn't in it. canon city and boulder... at the capitol building, they had a handwritten vote tally on display (at least they did waaaaaaay back when i was in college).

i always laugh at that story, especially since it is true.

I've heard a slightly different version of the story as to how Boulder got the university. The story I heard is that Nichols, of Nichols hall fame, was influential in getting the university in Boulder and that he lobbied very hard for it. The choice was between Canon City and Boulder, that much is true, but that the legislature made the decision to put the university in Boulder at Nichols prodding.

Then Nichols went off and killed a bunch of injuns at Sand Creek, so they stripped his name from the residence hall that bore his name - 100 years after the fact.

Not to be the 'PC' police, but do Native Americans see that term the same as African-Americans see the 'N' word? And no, I am not talking about the truly derogatory, totally classless 'N' word of Kneebraska. The other N word.
