CU Buffs will need to slow Hawaii's passing attack - Buffzone
The Hawaii football team earned immediate respect at the beginning of last season by going toe-to-toe with USC in its season opener and ultimately scoring 36 points in an entertaining loss to the Trojans. The Warriors open this season on Saturday at home against Colorado but coach Greg McMackin issued a note of caution Monday on the Western Athletic Conference coaches teleconference when he said his team is young offensively with only two starters returning, and it might take some time for the Warriors to reach the same level of efficiency and productivity as last year.

Colorado Daily " CU At the Game - A CU Football blog by Stuart Whitehair

"People are talking about the Buffaloes, and we’re excited about the opportunity in front of us," Embree told the 23rd annual Boulder Chamber kickoff luncheon at Balch Fieldhouse on Friday.
"I know we were picked 13th in this conference out of 12 teams by the media," Embree joked. "That’s all right. So we’re picked 13th. But here’s the good thing. We get to go play." His No. 1 goal for the group is to "get the bricks back."
Embree’s reference was to the wall in the Dal Ward Athletic Center where the scores of major program victories had been recorded in the past before being painted over in recent years. Rather than shy away from the 18-game road losing streak, Embree has embraced the challenge. "That’s where we are right now," Embree said.
"Sept. 3 is the first opportunity. People talk about the schedule (being tough). You know what? I love the schedule. I love that we open up on the road so we get a chance to get that off the books and bring the bricks back."

CU Buffs' Ray Polk hoping to add playmaker to résumé - Buffzone

A critic might say Colorado free safety Ray Polk has spent a lot of time on the football field over the past two seasons without making many big plays. Coaches might say he's a work in progress and a player on the verge of producing plenty of those game-changing moments in 2011. For now, Polk is regarded as a speedy, hard-hitting junior with all the physical tools of a star and the résumé of an average college player. He has played 1,070 snaps on defense over the past two seasons without producing an interception, forced fumble, fumble recovery or a sack.
Embree is as interested and excited as anyone to see how Polk responds to the challenge when the season kicks off Saturday for the Buffs (8:15 MDT) in Honolulu against Hawaii. Polk should be as excited as any Buff to start the year against the Warriors. He earned the Defensive Player of the Week last season against Hawaii.

Scheduled for failure
Colorado (33). Jon Embree is another new coach walking into a buzz saw. He inherits a program that has lost 17 straight road games -- then will play seven of 13 contests on the road this year, plus one at a neutral site (rival Colorado State in Denver). Colorado fans can go ahead and make plans to spend bowl season skiing.

Two CSU football players arrested at party - Buffzone
Two Colorado State football players -- including starting middle linebacker James Skelton -- were among the four arrests made Saturday at a large pool party at the Rams Pointe apartment complex, according to a release issued today by the Fort Collins Police Department.
Buckeyes don't name a starting quarterback - College Football Nation Blog - ESPN
Joe Bauserman or Braxton Miller? That's been the main question most of the past month for Ohio State. And the Buckeyes' official depth chart for Saturday's opener against Akron has it listed exactly that way at quarterback: Joe Bauserman or Braxton Miller. Both Bauserman, a senior, and Miller, the true freshman, will play against the Zips, and the Buckeyes traditionally try to play two quarterbacks early in the season. But we still don't know who will start, though the smart money remains on the veteran Bauserman getting the first snap.

[/h]Pac-12 Football Preseason Power Rankings, Where You Can Find Serenity - Pacific Takes
[h=3]Here are the Pac-12 football preseason rankings powered by Firefly, which have the Oregon Ducks in first place as Malcolm Reynolds and the Stanford Cardinal in second place as Inara Serra. Larry Scott is Serenity.[/h][h=3]11. Colorado Buffaloes: Hoban Washburne - The most pragmatic member of the crew/conference, they try to do things as conventional as possible. No hijinx, no wild acts, only occasional risk-taking when the situation demands it. However, a ship can't function without its pilot, and Colorado has done quite a bit of winning long before they descended into their current muck. Don't underestimate the value of each of these players.[/h][h=3]Also, most likely to fight with toy dinosaurs in the heat of battle.[/h]

CU Buffs hoping to be road warriors in Hawaii - Buffzone

"We've lost 18 on the road. Maybe we need to start taking buses," Embree said. "I'm excited that our first game is on the road, because I want to get that over with. I want to get it over with."
Embree will place a brick on the wall inside the Dal Ward Center with the score engraved in it if CU prevails against Hawaii. "We want to get that first win for Embree. We don't want him to start off 0-1 as a head coach, we want him to be 1-0," Hansen said.
"The next week that 2001 team is coming back and we want those bricks to be back up there for them. That would be real special. ... "We have a lot to play for this season. This group has gone through a lot. And I think we want to get that road win done with and the streak in the past."

Buffs Earn Thrilling Win Over Northern Colorado - CUBuffs.com
Senior Anicia Santos and junior Kerra Schroeder earn recorded 13 kills to help the University of Colorado volleyball team defeat Northern Colorado 3-2 (13-25, 25-19, 25-18, 19-25, 15-6). "I was pleased with our overall team effort tonight," coach Liz Kritza said. "We showed great progress from last season, and that we were able to rebound when the chips were stacked against us. I think that this is a testament to the players as being a little more mature and experiences and the great attitude this team is showing.
