Travon would be a welcome addition. CU could use a 4.4 WR.

Doesn't make a lot of sense -- at CU he would have to sit out the year because Pac 10 has included Colorado and Utah with other Pac 10 schools requiring a USC 4th/5th year player to sit out a year (as opposed to going elsewhere, where he wouldn't have to sit out a year). For this reason, I'd doubt the move.

I've asked about this before...but if the transfer is for this UPCOMING season, we are still Big 12 members for 2010 so from my understanding, we are not held to the Pac-10 requirement for this year. If it's for 2010 AND 2011, and IF we start play in the Pac-10 in 2011, then that could be an issue.

USC released Santreal Henderson, top ranked OT recruit and he later signed with Miami (but he hadn't yet enrolled at USC so the rulerequiring him to sit out could be waived by the academic institution). The rule that says a player must sit out 1 year to transfer is an NCAA. NCAA has said a USC 4th or 5th year player does not have to sit out a year if he transfers to a non Pac-10 school, and based on an article I read in the Daily Camera last week, CU is included as a Pac 10 school for purposes of the exception.

Therefore, I doubt we see any USC transfers.

The exception in this case is that as a part of U$C's NCAA probation players entering their Jr. or Sr. years of eligibility would be able to transfer to another D1 program without having to sit out or losing a year of eligibility. What I don't know is if this applies to transfers to fellow PAC10 institutions although in this case CU is not considered a PAC10 institution because it is participating as a Big XII member this season and this players eligibility would be gone before CU begins PAC10 play.

Past all of that, other than if he has some friends at CU pushing him to come to a program where he has a higher likelyhood of sees significant playing time (U$C is still deep at WR) I don't see what the benefit to him would be of transfering to CU. I put this one in the "I'll believe it when I see it file."

Posted by Buffnik in another thread this morning.

It seems as if the only issue would be counting CU as a PAC10 school for this situation and since we are not playing a PAC10 schedule this year and are not playing USC this year OOC I don't think they would apply any restrictions.

    Mtn Buff-
That was my point (and I'm probably not being very clear) -- that USC 4th and 5th year players DON'T have to sit out a year if they go to non-Pac 10 schools per USC's recent probation. Unfortunately, CU is counted as a Pac-10 school per Pac 10 and NCAA rule discussing this USC-related issue.

Is there some loop hole that maybe we aren't officially part of the pac-10 yet and therefore that rule doesn't apply. Maybe?

Link? I'll actually click it and read it this time. Because what is not clear to me (and perhaps 'Nik and Mtn as well) is if for THIS YEAR, while we are still a Big 12 member, if that exception applies to us.

The only reason I can see for making CU and Utah part of the transfer ban for this year is so that they don't have an advantage picking up 4th year transfers that could play in 2011. If they can transfer to CU, play this year and next year or transfer to another Pac-12 school, have to sit out this year and then play next year, CU (or Utah) is going to have a big advantage there. Otherwise, it does seem like playing outside the conference this year should be the same to U$C as sitting out this year and playing next year.

Why would the NCAA prevent a 5th year senior from transferring to Colorado who will be playing a Big XII schedule this year?

Not attacking your post, just curious..

    Any news on Tavon?

I agree, if he is going to play this year, then the transfer rules shouldn't apply. If he plans to RS this year and play next year, then the PAC's transfer rules should apply.

Now this makes a lot more sense!

If Patterson is finishing up his degree at USC this summer, that would explain why he is still being seen around campus and participating in 7ons with the guys. It would also explain how it is possible that he can transfer to CU and play immediately (since that conflicted with the reports that we were being held to the Pac 10 rule).

I really hope this is true.

Via a source tightly coupled to a certain QB at CU, this appears to be Patterson's plan.

It would also make sense if CU has the program he wants for grad school. Get the first year of your grad program paid for at a school where you have the potential to get some playing time and can add a quality grad degree onto a B.S. from a highly respected USC. If this is the case I give the kid credit for having a good head on his shoulders.

I believe he is talking about Tyler Hansen's brother, who posts on Rivals and originally scooped this.

That is interesting, especially the part about playing for CU and getting a USC degree. When did we start giving out degrees from other universities? Damn, the NCAA is powerful...

I don't have a clue as to specifics, lots of schools have different policies but many schools will allow a student to complete a degree with a certain number of credits transfered in from other accredited universities as long as the credits are in courses approved by the university issuing the degree.

My impression was that the kid would be finishing his USC degree this summer and then starting grad school in the fall. In this case he would be free to transfer to any school he wants without penalty or restriction just like Sumler did leaving CU with his degree and one year of eligibility left. This would also answer the question about restrictions on the PAC10 Transfer question since NCAA rules specifically allow a transfer to any school that the student athlete wants to choose.

I don't know much about the kid, but he hasn't had more than 3 catches a season so I wouldn't expect too much from him.

I think you are correct... The only stipulation the NCAA has is that the grad school degree you're taking at the school you transferred to was not offered by the school you transferred from...

He got on the field at USC. I don't think Simmons, Celestine, Espinoza, Jefferson, Ebner, Darden or Cefalo have shown enough to say that they would have. I think Patterson is immediately in the mix to be our #3 WR starter this year, definitely makes our 2-deep, and quite possibly wins the returner job.

Sounds like a Demetrius Sumler situation in reverse.
