And we are moving in the right direction. All I can really ask for right now. You are right about 2012 being "miles away".
According to "tini thinking" the Miami Dolphins fans were one game away from making Super Bowl plans this year.
You can say that we were mathmatically alive for bowl eligibility but we weren't close. Any hope we had of beating USC was gone when they fired Kiffen. To think that we were going to beat an SC team that had much superior playmakers to us and then win a road game against a Utah team that wasn't good but was much better than us on the LOS is a huge leap.

This is what made this year encouraging and interesting to me.
We had obvious deficiencies which we have all discussed endlessly here.
Unlike the prior years though we looked like a college football team. We looked organized, the kids mostly played hard, we had young players who have promise for the future. We got better in many aspects from the start of the year to the end of the year.
This is the story of the CU Buffs in 2013 not being technically alive for a bowl with 2 games left.
