Assuming Simmons qualifies, Simas is eligible, and both are as good as advertised, we could have one of the better receiving corps in the Big 12 next season. Need Smith to step it up another level, and McKnight to just keep doing what he's been doing. Have Blackmon and Darden(assuming he doesn't redshirt) in there as well. There's 2 more, who am I missing?

Now let's just hope they can stay healthy. (knock on wood)

Anyway, 7 months away, and I'm already going nuts waiting for the season to start!

Knowing Hawk, the season will probably start with Espinoza as the numero uno receiver

    I kid, I kid

The biggest difference this year in our receiving corps may not be a receiver at at. Assuming that we don't have the same increadible run of injuries on the O-line whoever is playing at the receiver positions may actually have time to finish their routes before the QB is running for his life or throwing the ball away.

I do hope that Simas is as good as advertised, if so he will give us a good all-around guy to go with McKnight as a posession guy and J-Fly who despite his limitations demands respect due to his speed. Scotty should be even more frequently open given time for a second or third move. Smith did have some drops and didn't show great route running ability but clearly has physical talent and his development could be greatly helped by a better O around him.

Simmons qualifying would give us a big talented target who could give the QBs a target unlike any they have had in a few years. If all goes well we should be significantly better even if the Fr. redshirt.

Add to all this the simple fact that if the O-line is healthy and one year further along in terms of strength and coordination the running game will become a much more significant threat. I would not be surprised to see DScott become an acid attack for opposing D-Coordinators, a healthy Speedy gets the chance to make the long game changing plays he gave hints of last year. Add Polk and we could have a legit running attack.

Last season we spent way to much time in second or third and long with a patchwork O-line. Teams could focus on stopping the passing game, give a more effective running game and the passing attack will have the opportunity to make more big plays. I am already getting excited for next year.

By the way I don't think Espinoza will be the lead receiver but I would be happy if he makes some plays for us. I hope if nothing else he can contribute in the return game like he was expected to last year.

Hopefully the receiving corps will be better this year than it has been recently. However, I think to hope for it to be in the top half of the Big 12 is a bit premature. We saw this year what happens when you base your expectations of the team on unproven, albeit talented, players.

Obviously, we've all heard good things about Simas. I hope Josh can continue to develop and round out his game a bit. McKnight is obviously a quality possession guy.

Simmons qualifying and getting on the field next year would be, I think, a huge plus. JUCO guys are often more ready to contribute right away than freshmen straight out of HS.

Anyone know the status of Smith's shoulders? Some of us forget that he was playing with two bad shoulders last season. Did he require surgery? I know there was talk that he might but I haven't heard anything.

    nice post.

I agree with you on the Oline piece. I really don't care which QB was playing last year it was a 'jailbreak' for the poor bast***... Cody did really well in a few games, specifically ISU and NU to move the ball as well as he did with the Oline in such disarray.

I look forward to this year and seeing what Hawkins can do from a coaching perspective with more options at his disposal; healthier oline, healthier scott/stewart, new folks coming in like polk, another quality option at QB if Hansen develops. If they can establish some balance in the run/pass game it opens up some much of the playbook (play action passing, etc.). I hope out OL coach has his group ready come game 1.

The pieces are falling into place...we finally have some tall receivers that can stretch the field...the o-line will be healthy again and more experienced...running backs will be very deep...some real d-line players will be on campus...linebackers will be stronger with our redshirts seeing playing time....db's getter stronger and deeper each season.......I feel an 8-4 for the season, and possibly a 9-3!!!! THE BUFFS ARE ON THEIR WAY BACK, BOYS!!!
