No matter what you think of Hawk as a coach, I think we would all agree that he is a good man and he has done much for this program and school's image in the Boulder community. After last night, I'm also pretty sure that we would all agree that he's not the answer here.
It would be nice, however, if the seniors who have bled for this program and Hawk could get a win against Nebraska to go out on. Both he and the seniors who will not be back next year deserve to go out on a winning note for all they've given to this program.
I don't bear any great amount of ill will towards Hawk, because I appreciate what he's done for the program's image (how many times over the past 2 years have you been embarassed by an off-the-field incident involving a CU player?) and how he seems to have reconnected with the student body and community at large (I could be wrong about this, it's my humble perception).
I may be completely wrong, but I think the foundation he's laid is ripe for the right person to come in and start winning on a much larger scale and for the community and school to be behind it. So, since we all know that he's going to be let go a week from tomorrow, let's all get out there and show our support one last time and help root the boys to one last victory against the bugeaters.
It's always darkest just before the dawn...
