The women's tennis team will be back in action tomorrow morning at 10am when they travel to Laramie to take on the Wyoming Cow Girls. Here is a preview from their website:
The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team will host the first of three home matches of the spring this week. They will welcome the Colorado Buffaloes on Thursday, Feb. 28, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The match will be played at the UW Indoor Tennis Complex. Following that, the Cowgirls will travel to Denver to face the Pioneers, on Friday, March 1, at 7:00 p.m.
"We are excited to finally play at home in front of the best fans in the country," said head coach Dean Clower. "The team is ready and we look forward to competing and pushing towards our goals."
The Cowgirls currently hold a 4-3 season record, while playing four nationally ranked teams over their first seven matches. They are led by junior Veronica Popovici with an overall record of 11-4 overall and a 4-1 dual mark at the number one singles position. Christa Gecheva has recorded a 13-4 mark this year, while fellow sophomore Jessica Parizher is 13-7 overall and 3-3 during dual play. Popovici and Synkova are 15-3 overall and 4-1 in doubles action this spring. Parizher and Silviya Zhelyazkova are 4-2 in dual action along with Alexandra Kovacs and Sasa Nemcova with a 2-2 record.
The Buffs are 5-3 overall this spring. They return five letterwinners to a team that went 7-14 overall and 0-10 in the Pac-12 a year ago. This will be the fourth meeting between the two schools. CU leads the series 3-0. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 30, 1999 as the Buffs defeated the Cowgirls, 8-1. Colorado is coached by Nicole Kenneally.
