The Official BC Pre-Game Thread

Game was boring unless you are a Bama fan, but defensive struggles always are as far as I'm concerned.
I'm no SEC fan but I would sure take that defense and put it in black and gold in a minute. We need a defense like that.
OSU goes down to the Tide too btw. OSU would score more points, but so would Bama because the cowgirls don't field near the defense of either team that played last night

Great defense isn't pretty or necessarily entertaining, but that doesn't mean it's not great football. That was a dominating defensive performance and it deserves to be recognized for that.

Both teams clearly knew what was at stake last night and Bama went out and took it to LSU. Congrats to Bama and their great fans.

OSU is better than both these teams. I didn't realize having opinions made me childish but it makes you somehow smart and noble?

Get the **** out.

Children often ignore reality and stamp their feet and pitch a fit. OSU is nowhere near as good as Alabama or LSU and you know that. Yet you continue to go on this little rant of yours. Whatever. Carry on with your little tantrum if it makes you feel better.

but I wanna see playoffs <stomps feet and leaves room>

Anybody who thinks that OSU (or Stanford or Oregon, for that matter) wouldn't have hung with both these teams is the delusional one. For one thing, Gundy wouldn't have been outcoached like Miles and I'm certain with 6 weeks to prepare he would have had some tricks up his sleeve that would have shocked or at least kept either team honest. Secondly, both OSU and Stanford have QBs that don't sh*t their pants in the face of multiple defensive looks and blitzes. I'm sure Luck and Weedon would have been able to make some plays that weren't even close to being made by Jefferson. Would either of these teams have won? Who knows, but they certainly would have been right in the thick of things, I'm certain. You're looking at a game with multiple TDs at least and that would have been better for us all.

Bama Charlie is here since he's trying to find a taker for his sister since he wouldn't be able to play with her.

This game stunk, it's true. There's no way of dressing up this turd. But to say that these weren't the two best teams in the country is just sour grapes. OSU? Really? C'mon. They'd have gotten mudholed by either of these teams. Mudholed. If you're trying to make the argument that OSU should have been in the game in order to justify having a playoff, just say there should be a playoff. You won't get an argument from me on that one. But to try to say that OSU would have been better than either of these teams is just childish.

I call BS on this. Did you say the same thing when Utah played against Bama? OSU should have been in the game because they deserve it, they are conference champs, unlike Bama

It sucks that a team that couldn't win their own conference got a shot at the NC. It sucks even more that the NC was decided on Jan 9th.
I miss the days when games on new years day ment something.

horrible, horrible game. anyone defending it should be shot.

Who's defending the game? The game stunk.

Two weeks ago, the arguments were that Alabama didn't win their conference, and therefore didn't deserve to be in the game. Well, based on what happened last night, I'd say it's pretty damn obvious that they did, indeed, deserve to be in the game. There isn't an objective measure that can be used to argue against an LSU/Bama game. All there are is a lot of emotional rantings about wanting a better game.

carolina, but that was to be expected. and i don't want him shot, for the record.

Right. So now only a child could disagree with you.

Quit being a sanctimonious prick.

I think that a six week layoff has a big impact on the game. The LSU QB wasn't sharp at all, for one thing. In other words, I'm not sure how much a game six weeks after the regular season is a very good indicator of who the best team was at the end of the season.

I don't need to pass off my opinions as fact. I have plenty of objective evidence to support my position on this. You don't.

Oh, but you already did it. And I quote:

you said:
OSU is nowhere near as good as Alabama or LSU and you know that.

You know what? I don't know that. I think OSU would give either one a run for their money. I'm not sure why you think anyone who has that opinion is childish, or lying, or whatever. It's an opinion, jackass. And yours does not carry more weight than anyone else's.

Yes. You do know it. You're just not admitting it. There isn't a single objective measure you can use to back up the assertion that OSU is better than Alabama. None. They didn't have a better record, play in a better conference, beat better teams, have better talent, better coaching, prettier cheerleaders - nothing. All you have is your assertion that they're better. That doesn't cut it. It doesn't cut it for me and it sure as hell didn't cut it for the BCS. Discusson over. Continue your rant at your pleasure. I'm finished.

Jefferson wasn't rusty. He just sucks out loud. Why Les Miles insisted on playing him, much less staying with him, is impossible to explain...

Now who is being childish? I told you what I think and you don't believe me? In your mind is your opinion the only right one so you want to argue until I acquiesce? Don't hold your breath. I've cracked tougher nuts than you.

Oregon put up 27 points on LSU and turned the ball over 4 times. To say that there is no way OSU could score on either team is a joke. They were the #1 offense in college FB for a reason. They know how to score. Hell, they put up 44 on OU who knows how to play defense the last time I checked.

There isn't a single objective measure you can use to back up the assertion that OSU is better than Alabama.

Sure there is. They won their conference and played a tougher schedule.

I am calling you on this one. You DON'T have objective evidence until OSU plays either Alabama or LSU. I know the SEC is superior. Everyone agrees about that. But the Big 12 is not slouch of a conference with Texas and Oklahoma, etc. And OSU beat a very good Stanford team with very good offense and the best wide out in the country. They have a great QB and although the defense was scored on it was by the best QB in recent memory. But the main thing is that what you are stuck in is "conventional wisdom." Sure you have stats to back up your assertions. To an extent they are objective although still lacking as mentioned until the teams play. And you should know that history is absolutely full of outcomes that defied "conventional wisdom." How about Boise State? How about Oklahoma a decade or so ago? This is true of all sports. And it is the reason they play the game. I used to listen to Sandy Clough on the radio. If one can get by his abrasive personality one quickly learns that he really knows what he is talking about in sports. But he also is pretty mired in the, to me, dreaded conventional wisdom. While it may be a good anchor most of the time, I think it is a mistake to try to claim objectivity in situations like this. There is not objectivity until the subject teams play. Remember what Mark Twain said, "First there are lies, then there are damned lies. Then there are statistics."

mmmmm had to point this out but:

wins versus top 25 ranked teams:
Alabama -2
Oklahoma State -5

wins versus bowl bound teams:
Alabama -3
Oklahoma State -7

Sole loss of the season
Alabama -at home
Oklahoma State - on the road

Conference Champs
Alabama - ummmmm
Oklahoma State - check

That being said I still like games to be decided on the field and don't just want to look on paper and decide the winner because some teams has better recruits or a better coach. Anyone else want some playoffs?

you don't know what you are talking about here. Let me make it easy peasy for you.

Oklahoma State beat Arizona 37-14 who lost to Utah 34-21 who lost to Colorado 17-14 who lost to Oregon 45-2 and we all know that Oregon lost to LSU 27-40, but they still managed to put up almost as many points versus LSU in one game than Alabama did in two, which means that they would have won.

The system is what it is.
Under ideal conditions Alabama and Oklahoma State should have played for the opportunity to meet LSU in the title game.

The B12 didn't have a CCG and Bama didn't make it to the SEC CCG.

A thirteenth game between the two contenders would have settled this on the field for once and for all. It would have also given both teams the same number of games that LSU played.

LSU's offense played poorly in the mNC BCS game. Had OSU been there, they might have won, too.

OSU will be the asterick on Bama's second bite at the apple championship.

I remember an analysis like that several years ago when Oklahoma won it all. By this method Williams College in western Massachusetts would have beaten Oklahoma.

And let me also point out as my brother in law has (went to OSU) that the Cowboys' only loss was not only on the road but it came after another tragedy for the sports teams at the school which has a recent history of this and the team was mourning the loss. Again if we go with conventional wisdom, no way OSU looses to Iowa State.

Did Alabama beat a team lead by Heisman runner up Andrew Luck and Heisman winner Reggie Griffin III?
