Visiting for the spring game...

"I am anxious to see the environment, get to know the coaches a little better and see how the team plays together," said the 6-foot-3, 230-pound defensive standout from Monrovia (Calif.) High. "I have talked with [Buffs offensive coordinator and running backs coach] Eric Bieniemy and their linebackers coach (Brian Cabral). They like the way I hit and the style of my game."

Standout at the LA Nike Camp:

George Frazier, LB, Monrovia – Frazier looked like one of the bigger linebackers in attendance and he put that size and frame to work in the pass rush one-on-ones where very few running backs could handle his blend of size and quickness. Frazier is a true mike backer that can be a run plugger defensively but in coverage he also showed the ability to be a factor.

A couple of Monrovia (Calif.) prospects had good days in George Frazier and Brett Walsh. Frazier was the bigger of the two and moved really well for his size. Frazier also plays quarterback, so he's plenty athletic, but he's gotten thicker since we saw him at the U.S. Army Combine but has maintained his athleticism. Walsh drew the praises of the coaches with his non-stop motor and effort on the day.

Spoke to him at the game. Well spoken kid but I couldn't get a feel for his interest level but seemed to like it.

Frazier would be a pretty solid pickup as the prototype MIKE linebacker. Get the feeling if he does pick us in August, we will be playing some defense though (not a bad thing).

I hope we don't take his commitment. I believe he's made several camp visits and hasn't earned an offer at any of the camps. Beating out Fresno St., San Jose St, and WSU is not where we want to be. We have limited spots left.

Let's save the last few spots for some bigger fish.

Anyone in particular?

Welcome George. Watched his vids. His strong point is fighting thru blockers, which is to be expected by someone his size. Didn't take particularly good angles, and lacked sound tackling technique. Seems like a solid pick-up tho.

If he has the tools and desire Cabral can teach the techniques.

I'd love to see a big nasty Backer controlling the middle of the defense for us.

Welcome.
